They should make a Transformers comic series like the IDW Saturday Morning Adventures, doing new stories in the cartoon continuity. It could be the missing years between Season 2 and the Movie and include all the guys who didn't make it in the show like The Deluxe Insecticons and the Omnibots and show what happened to characters like Elita-1.

am i supposed to know what this is
>>
The movie and subsequent series and shit toys nearly killed the transformers.

The less they go digging through that shit heap the better
>>

You still blame Hot Rod for killing Prime, don't you?

IDW did some limited comics set in the cartoon continuities of certain IP's TMNT, Dungeons and Dragons.
They even did G.I. Joe, but nobody did Transformers.

YES! And for Prowl, Ironhide, Trailbreaker...
>>
>>153316629
I’m surprised no material has ever tried to cover the time skip from 1985 to 2005 in the Transformers cartoon.
At first I thought that’s what Dreamwave was initially doing until I realized they weren’t.

I blame the cheap star wars ripoff that talent devoid rodent shat out, "we have transformers at home" tier toys, and cowardly cynical garbage seasons that followed it.

The brand barely survived this idiocy.

Do you think Arcee's design was partly influenced by the Mighty Orbots girls?

I’ve heard that her haircut was inspired by Leia’s one.

Japan covered all of that. Fun fact, it involved the 2001 RiD anime.

I would want the comic to be less about leading up to the movie and more about just more cartoon adventures.

Thanks, anon, this is very helppppp-----OHMYFRAKKINGODDDD!!!

Sometimes they make stuff that works as that if you squint or ignore a few things. Like the two G1 Bumblebee graphic novels IDW made. They fit into the cartoon nicely if you ignore Windblade.
>>
>>153316629
I think we're getting to the point where even Geewunners are burnt out on G1. The Skybound comic is doing well enough, but I'm not sure the market could support two, especially if the second comic is basically Saturday morning cartoon tier.
>>
>>153316845
>I blame the cheap star wars ripoff that talent devoid rodent shat out
Wasn't it the same writers as the first two seasons?
Anyway, shit take, The movie isn't high art but it's easily the highlight of G1. Prime getting killed off elevated the franchise to something memorable instead of being forgotten like so many other Pre-TMNT 80's franchises.
Transformers without the 86 movie is kept on life-support by a toy company that wants to replicate it's first two years of success, like MOTU or GI Joe ARAH. Or god help us, Thundercats.
>>
>>153317658
why ignore windblade? just treat her like the other autobots that randomly show up with no explanation, like warpath or powerglide

>>

That works too.
>>
>>153317809
And it has like no new content. I like MOTU, ARAH, and Thundercats, but I'm one of the few people in my generation who care about those. They didn't transfer generations in popularity like TF managed to. TF fans are spoiled for content in comparison.
>>
>>153318136
>And it has like no new content.
There was a recent comic by Dynamite.
>>
>>153318136

stay alive with this one simple trick: don't stop putting out toys for 42 uninterrupted years
>>
>>153318201
Well, kinda.
>>

explain
>>
>>153317729
Transformers was only 3 years old when the movie was released, and we were only a few years into toy cartoons as a concept, nobody had any idea any of those brands would last much longer than 4-5 years, nobody back then working on the toys or cartoons thought that they'd become brands surviving through successive generations of kids.

IIRC GI Joe's 1980s commercial peak was around 1985-1986, several years in, more than the early years with more generic-looking green army men.

>>153317783
Some of those IDW comics were trying to put Windblade in the original Ark crew, which isn't the same as "just pretend she shows up later like the season 2 guys do".
>>
>>153318554
There have been gaps. But whenever there is, the toys are still selling somewhere else.

In America there was a gap of two or three years between the original line and Generation 2, but in Europe the line never ended and went straight into G2. And since Beast Wars the line has been in stores uninterrupted in America, but theres been several long stretches of no toys being sold in Japan.
>>
>>153318584
>In America there was a gap of two or three years between the original line and Generation 2, but in Europe the line never ended and went straight into G2.
...right. Like I said, uninterrupted toys for 42 years.
Certain areas having gaps means FUCK ALL, bud.
>>
>>153317817
Seasons 3 and 4 are let down by some lower-quality, error-ridden animation at times, but there's a welcome move towards more space-opera type stories, and expanding Transformers lore.

The nature of how most cartoons were made back then meant the biggest flaw with season 3 was that Rodimus couldn't progress past his insecurities and Galvatron's madness couldn't be cured, these things were baked into the character guides every writer was working from, season arcs and character development weren't really a thing in many cartoons by that time.

Most of the complaints about the post-Movie episodes tend towards just being Not Muh for the new characters thoughever. Ultimately those guys won and by now the core of the 84 cast are locked into most iterations of Transformers forever.
