Have you considered animating your own cartoons?
>>
>>153322991
I tried frame by frame but it's a pain in the ass
>>
I tried, but the latest version of Blender is too much for my PC. Now I'm trying Blender 3.3 LTS.
>>
>>153322991
Yeah, but many factors keep making me stumble.
I'll get there. I'm trying to learn the compositor so renders don't look awful currently though
>>
>>153322991
I tried hand drawn rotoscoping once and the was wiped by the time I finished ten seconds and never wanted to do that again. If it’s that bad when you’ve already got source material to work off of I can’t imagine having to animate from scratch - I don’t know how some of these guys do it.
>>
>>153322991
I wish.
>>
>>153322991
I kinda am. Still in the middle stages, but my goal is to at least get it out before November, or 2027 at best. Working solo ain't no walk in the park when you're doing the heavy lifting. Thank FUCK I got a new powerful NASA-esque PC and a makeshift renderfarm, After Effects and Blender's Cycles is total murder. Can't imagine doing this shit on a decade old Macbook.

>Tfw I spent over 60 hours across 5 weeks to make a 12 second animation with backgrounds, props, characters, and animation from scratch and I'll probably get 5 views if I'm lucky.
Oh well I had fun but it's really tiring doing everything myself.
>>
>>153322991
My pc is too crappy.
>>
>>153322991
Yeah I'm doing that now
I animate in sai
>>
>>153323819
Who fucking cares? Use it for your portfolio
>>
>>153322991
Yes, but I'm afraid of anything positive or fulfilling in my life
>>
>>153324290
>work for people animating shit you’re not passionate about so your interest in what you do care about gets burned out
>>
>>153323819
Could you reuse any part of what you created for a new animation?
>>
>>153323819
The experience has ultimately made you a better artist and in the future more efficient at animating.
>>
>>153324634
Who cares work for yourself
>>
>>153324290
I don't care about portfolio stuff I just make things for fun. I just wish I'd get more views because I would like for people to tell me what I could improve on.
>>153324690
Actually some props will be reused I might reuse one of the character designs. So my next one should have slightly less time spent on it.
>>153324747
Yeah I learned a lot and definitely improved my background drawing skills a bunch.
>>
>>153322991
Why does it have to be animated if it can just be a comic?
>>
As someone who has made something of his own and is actively working on it I have some advice for the anons just starting out

Keep it in the form of an animatic or a sketch, it doesn't need to be polished and getting to the level of polish you'll need to catch the eye of an audience whose attention spans are already fried by slop is an unreachable goal at this point

Here's the order of what you should focus on:

1. Idea - come up with an idea for a story that makes you want to explode how bad you want to tell it or how much you want to see it done, and have fun with concepts, think about what type of story makes you the most invested (an idiotic example would be pawn stars, but something about making money is just attractive for people)

2. Writing - writing is arguably more important than the initial idea but they're both up there

3. Pacing - just nail it down and don't overhold a shot or a scene just because you think it's pretty

4. Character designs - coombait/furbait goes a long way but other than that 40k aesthetics will also get you pretty far, everything else is gonna be an uphill battle

5. Animation - this is arguably the least important part, if an idea is good it's gonna stand on it's own in the form of an animatic and honestly most of the time stuff looks better that way anyway because the viewer fills in the blanks

That's basically it, just remember if it doesn't seem interesting while looking like a sketch it's gonna take you way too much work to make it interesting with polish
>>
>>153322991
Considered? Absolutely. Actually gain the ability to do so and manage to do it within a timespan of my life that would mean anything? No. Not at all.
I'll focus on doing comics and MAYBE some short animations to get the tik tokkers into my actual body of work. It won't be 1 to 1 but it will be great marketing.
>>
why do that when u can pay asians to do it for you

I'm already too busy with work. I've got two pieces of CAD software to fully understand and trying to do online classes. I wish I had the time to spend on hobbies.
Shame the industry isn't looking too good so I had to move my career goals to the construction field.
>>
>>153326345

>>
>>153327852
what do you mean? Is it not true that coombait and furbait gets you easy views? I'm not advocating for it I'm just saying, but going down that path has it's own problems, you might get the audience more easily but it's the type of audience you get that's the problem

Yesterday I had arguments with actual Nazis on this board who demanded Peach be feminine and Mario be a role model. If they believed that those things are important, then they should tell stories about those things. It genuinely warms my heart to see people on this miserable board actually wanting to create, but it breaks my heart to see anons give up because they feel they're doing it wrong because they have set impossible standards for themselves.

Just create and see what happens.

I have many ideas, over 20 that I've been thinking of for years pre covid and earlier, but I was wondering if I could tell a Conan inspired story that's as simple as man saving the girl. Would you guys be interested in it? What if the antagonist was an on the nose parody of the SJW feminist strawman? Would you actually like that or would you rather it be a charismatic wizard?

I never said that I said I argued with literal nazis, as in, people who say being homosexual is degenerate, black is bad, and a meme that just says every crime was committed by a woman and a minority and how the nazis were real good guys. Genuine nazi shit that implies types of people are superior to another.

I'm sick of seeing it on a fucking cartoon and comics board, the culture war is made up, just make stories.

Listen to what Katzenberg said a few years ago.
Cartoons use to take hundreds of skilled animators and several years to create. AI changed all that so now 90% of those losers are gone.

And we see it happen all the time. Go look up job postings at Nick or Disney. They don't even hire junior cartoonists anymore. It's all just senior animators left using AI.

They talk about everyone else needs to get a job when it actually they need to get a job, most of them can't drive but they think it's okay because Elon musk tells them the robots will do everything and everyone will have high income in the future. One guy used to like kept telling people this was 2 or 3 years ago that computers are obsolete and no one needs to learn anything because AI will do it, mind you he was living in his parents attic at the time and he was already reaching 40 but he was so full of dogma about AI you couldn't convince him. He still makes videos and his Little Star Trek uniform talking about how AI is going to do everything for him and how everyone else is obsolete, he also thinks that there's like a secret ball of evil AI haters/ludites or stopping it from happening somehow. Nah. I've actually made a point to not invest any of my proverbial skill points into animation because I have too many other skills I'm honing and I don't harbor any delusions that my art or my 3d modeling will ever be used for animation. I don't want to make a cartoon. I don't want to work on a cartoon. I'm not interested in programming or making my own vidya, so I don't have any need to learn 3d animation, just in case.

Maybe I'll do more comics some day, but I'm well aware that I have finite time, energy, and resources and that I cannot be pulling myself in ten directions at once, trying to pursue ten different goals and work in industries I have no chance, nor interest in being a part of. Western animation industry fucking sucks. The Indie scene is worse. Hollywood is a place I'd only want to go to if someone was paying me huge sums of money to be in a movie, or something. That place does not respect animation or art, otherwise, so wanting to do animation for Hollywood is the worst possible place to be.

I like how this thread devolved into arguments about AI.

The only reason you people like AI is because you wanna see annoying people get screwed over by it. Sure you're not talented enough and you wanna use a make a cartoon button, but it's mainly to get rid of the liberal woke california SJW commies in the industry so you can jerk off to questionably aged cartoon women.

Not saying there is an issue with nepotism and highschool tier drama in the industry, but using AI to get rid of them is like sinking a ship you're a part of.

>But I'm not a part of the ship, I'm the one sinking their commie ship!

You'll just be alone in your submarine underwater watching cartoon porn and Conan inspired fantasies 24/7 because somehow you never get tired of the same old shit because you're an autist.

anyway, my dream project would have been some sort of action comedy that is in episodic format but has a loose continuity with seasonal story arcs. With young men as target demographic even though it has a female main character, but large supporting cast with particular emphasis on being empathetic to men. For the time being I am struggling to get back into saddle on my main personal project.

Get back to me when dressing and undressing isn't nightmarish, characters remain steady without bleeding attributes, dialogue shows air leaving cheeks, the precision of CGI is made possible in prompts with tiny changes having no ripple effect, a scene can be relit with no other changes, etc. The stuff an actual pipeline requires.

>sharing their aspirations
A bit more than one year ago I modeled a girl in answer to a smol thread on /3/ and it led me through a complete rabbit hole.

I've been doing little unfinished things on and off in 3d since the DOS days but this time it clicked to an all new extent. One motivator has been that I took an actual rigging course and stuck to it, so it got me into the habit of doing Blender stuff regularly, but another big one has been that an artist acquaintance got into their own Blender learning and watching him level up has been inspiring.

My goal is to try and make a full short animation this time so I've also been learning how to approach the whole workflow. It's kinda crazy that pretty much all you need for storyboarding, laying out or editing a short is all in Blender (admittedly sound is a bit simplistic). Also looking at a web series like Milky Subway that was basically done with Google Docs, Blender and the free version of DaVinci Resolve. Wonderful tools and informatrion available to us.

Anyway, keep on keeping on, you own art has been a durable inspiration too!

Filter is done through the compositor (which you can show in realtime in a viewport although some multi-render stuff isn't supported).
Lens distortion -> blur a bit but horizontally more -> separate YUV ->blur UV (the "color") more and move them to the right -> put back together

Basically a simplified version of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyegQf-rbtw with really just the color bleed

>>
>>153332406

Just watched it. It was probably one of the better longform animations I've seen done with AI, but even then it isn't much to celebrate.

I am trying to make a distinction between the "writing " of the short and the visuals, assuming the writing was done traditionally and not also AI generated. Either way the plot is generic and lacking in any charm. A pet bird wants freedom and escapes really easily. Its wings are presumably clipped so it can't fly but it manages to get to the park. It meets some wild birds who take him in despite being a burden. The pet bird proves his worth by protecting his new family from a cat. Basic story but there is a story of some kind.

In terms of the visual storytelling, it's lacking in composition and information. The beginning when looking out the window was fine, we understood his desires, but then poor editing with him exiting the window and then just cuts immediately to him falling with no connection. Surreal moment of the road that clearly featured cars driving now suddenly having pedestrians. Weird non prompted physics with a car driving by and giving the bird a delayed roll.

Inside the park there is a massive inconsistency of the amount of wild birds. Seems the idea is to have a parent bird and then 3 chicks, but the number varies immensely between shots. Expressions are also lacking when the pet bird and the other birds meet. The impression would be that the parent bird is a gruff but fair authority figure who takes in the pet bird but the expressions don't really give much information about their true desires.

Going to run out of space here soon but I'll say it's a valiant attempt at making something coherent but it still fails to really live up to the end result of traditional means, with its only benefit being the speed that it was created.

You guys have been saying this for years yet the we have no good AI cartoons. Just porn and fetish materials. Fine if you want to make NSFW animation but I like animation outside of it making me horny. You guys didn't even dent the comic industry and that's easier to get into. Even the AI users don't want to consume AI original stories, they rather just make fan made images of human made stories which speaks volumes
>>
>>153337548
That's the thing, I haven't seen any true attempts at art using AI. Like, I've seen more effort and sincerity in crappy autistic dA comics about some pre school cartoon than from any AI user. Where is the AI feature film? If all these people have truly simply been hindered by their inability to draw and write, where are the works? I don't even care about the quality, but there isn't even a true attempt.

Literature has been suffering from it though. I suppose not as easy to immediately parse large blocks of text for AI and easy to self publish now.

You guys seem to like AI because you think it hurts artists, what's the artist do to you to make you hate them I mean seriously were you so pathetic you're beating up by the drama kids in high school. Were you bullied by the art teachers who sat around smoking weed and regret it becoming artists. Out of the few artists who actually make it in this world there are millions of failed artists are you mad at the failed artists because that's the people you seem to be at war with. You're not going to be the famous ones that's impossible with so few of them you're going to just be another guy with a ton of art in his attic that no one sees except yours is going to be online. Most shameless AI usage I see these days are from scammy ads for games, porn sites, and those weird "work outs for 42-86 year olds" that promise to turn you into a furry. Some people try to do short form content with it, but you can see how much they struggle to make something consistent that could even be on the level of an indie pilot. No one is making movies because not only do lack ideas big enough to be a whole movie, but the actual cost and time investment to generate literally millions of takes to then painstakingly edit into a semi-coherent story is too much effort for slopjeets.

I sort of miss 5-10 years ago where I could think about the future of art and even consumer technology without having a part of my brain consider how LLMs and image/ video generators will be used to make everything worse. Their outputs are dogshit nothingness but it’s instant and “free” to the end user right now so every greedy soulless husk person feels like it’s good enough to push into everything. I miss googling for image references without half of the images being waxy Vaseline smeared plagiarism that isn’t reflective of real life. I miss when posers and tourists who don’t have a semblance of passion or drive or anything at all resembling a soul didn’t have an ego booster that let them leech off of the data from everybody’s hard work and pretend that they are more talented than anybody else, or that they’re part of some sort of artistic revolution that won’t end in the complete compromise of quality.
I don’t like big tech billionaires thinking they own the future of media by pushing this stuff as hard as they can despite how invariably and utterly garbage everything is, just because they have the money to tank it until they can monopolize everything.

Visual generation shit only serves to muddy the waters and divert money and attention from quality work. You may not like it but talent and hard work does dictate how good a piece of media will be.

>investors invest in advertising agencies for high return

scrolling through the archives is funny, one part is that it’s ironic that an AI cultist threw a piece of human-drawn art into a jeetbot video generator with full seriousness, but what gets me is that art style itself looks so childish and ugly, is that really what gets AIfags hot and bothered?

You don't even understand the point of art. No wonder you're jealous of artists.

Hyper inflation is a bitch. Higher valuations through stock price fuckey and out of control money printing is not the sign of a healthy economic system that is going to grow and develop exponentially for the benefit of a scant few. Try googling "furry sonic foot inflation toe job" for more information, you low IQ faggot.

Artists use the same human knowledge so your post doesn't make sense. If an artist can draw a picture it's because they learned to. Robots can do the same.

And what is the point of art? If you're trying to make money off it then don't complain others beat you at it with technology.

If you're doing art as a free hobby then I don't give a fuck.
