>>153323092
Stupid OP made it an 'and' operation.
He can use any 2 he wants, just not all 3. Ennis can survive cutting the pedophilia and using just the rape and gore, he'll just use more rape and gore to make up the difference.

Ennis is really weird. He has objective haters and lovers, people that'll criticize every little part of his comics or ones that'll defend even his worst titles.

Yeah, but we don't see any blood or organs, he's like putty.
>>
He's made some good stuff from time to time but I'm kinda sick of his whole "superheroes are le bad" thing. Motherfucker, if you hate superheroes so much then stop working in comic books.
>>
I don’t know why Ennis doesn’t just write autistic war comics. It’s obvious he loves writing war. He’s got enough money to make it happen.

I’m sure everyone would enjoy gritty WWII stories instead of gritty superhero bullshit.
>>
>>153327964
Is this from the Dick Dastardly horror comic he did for DC?
>>
>>153327987
He's a masochist, that's the best explanation I've got.
>>
>>153327987
He has an axe to grind with Superheroes because he blames them for killing British comics.
Superheroes weren't really a thing in British comics before the 60s-70s. There was a wide diversity of comics. Scifi, War, Horror, Adventure, Fantasy, etc.
But after Superheroes started getting really popular in the UK, sales for those sorts of comics started to decline, and eventually got to the point where it seemed like ONLY Superhero comics sold.
>>
>>153328010
Yep. It's a pretty nice read. Helps that it's completely unrelated to superheroes and his hateboner for them.
>>
>>153328071
Might have pissed off Hanna-Barbera by adding a Disney character prominently in one panel (Cthluto) but yeah
>>
>>153325220
His Hawke the Slayer comic, maybe.
>>
>>153328048
>he blames them for killing British comics
No one put a gun to Mick Anglo's head and forced him to file the serial numbers off of Captain Marvel
Ennis' concept of payback is sad, picrel
>>
>>153327987
>I don’t know why Ennis doesn’t just write autistic war comics. It’s obvious he loves writing war. He’s got enough money to make it happen.
He does, that's basically what the Battle Action series is from Rebellion is he writes most of the stories
>>
>>153328116
>>153328071
It's basically Color Out Of Space by way of Roger Rabbit. Which to be fair, didn't need to be tied to Hanna Barbera at all to work.

He also did a fantasy comic called Babs that was a parody of red sonja that didn't have any rape. Though it did have a lot of violence in it.
>>
>>153328261
I made it through 2 issues before the retarded attempt at humor lost me. He really can't write women.
>>
>>153328252
I only know about The Beano because several characters from it showed up in League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
>>
>>153328048
He's just a petty little bitch in the end.
>>
>>153328273
I just felt he didn't know or like anything about Fantasy fiction to make a good parody
It doesn't really come across as spiteful like his Cape stuff, but it's more that the jokes fall flat since he just doesn't know enough about to make good jokes.
The incel friend group in that comic was also weird since a lot of time is devoted to them
>>
>>153328274
Moore is like Claremont in one depressing regard, the belief anyone else's character is fair dinkum. Claremont did not account for Walt Kelly still being alive with Hepzibah which is why Dave Cockrum's original design was eventually changed and everyone pretended she was always a cat girl, never a skunk. Likewise the whole Wolveroach/S'ym feud.
>>
>>153327854
The vast majority of the comics side on this board only read superhero comics, aka the thing Ennis shits on all the time. It's no surprise to me he gets some obsessed posters like that one fag who kept spamming "Pennis" all the time. I like him because his war comics are good.
>>
>>153328324
The thing that stabs Garth in the ass is that his own literacy isn't much broader and he used to be a fucking poet before comic books. He shat on Stan Lee with The Legend, but Stan read everything for inspiration. Ennis' literary background is comic books, James Bond and The Troubles. Even his run on Hellblazer has at best SMT-tier research into the mythos John comes across.
Enjoyable writer at times because he writes with a conclusion in mind and gets there.

I've seen people who hate his work admit they like Punisher Max
Ennis is weird because as much of an edgelord he is, he's fully sincere and human about it
>>
>>153327854
I like him as a storyteller but he desperately needs an editor to beat that Basil Exposition shit out of him and to stop writing females like it's 1975. Those are far worse issues than his self-indulgent subjects.
>>
>>153328516
>admit they like Punisher Max
Because it gave us Barracuda who should have been in the movies, the TV show, everything. Fuck, he was even in Punisher/Eminem.
>>
>>153328516
He just has 90s edgelord sense of humor and aesthetics but he is a good writer beneath that.
>>
>>153327854
I honestly think it has to do with how people read comics now
We live in a period of time where it's easier than ever for people to just pirate comics (which has led to a lot new appreciation for certain books and runs) and there's over a decade of work done for scanning, ripping, and reading reccs (though it's all far from complete) that people can read Ennis' comics for themselves and make their own opinions whether or not they agree with the negative takes post-Amazon The Boys.
Granted a good chunk of those pirates being in it for capeshit doesn't help matters
>>
>>153327854
In contrast everyone wants to lynch Mark Millar (aside from Superman fans oddly enough)
>>
>>153328527
>Basil Exposition shit
This is an industrywide problem. No one understands brevity. It should be a rule that every writer should do an issue with no dialogue or narration like that one GI Joe story Larry Hama did.
>>
>>153327854
Because he's undeniably a good writer but also is in love with edgy shock content who also hates and mocks superheroes, the most dominant genre that many people have sadly built their whole personality around. Many people like him for his good writing and hate him for shitting on their favorite characters. And edgy shock content just isn't as popular as it used to be.
>>153328593
That's because Millar is just straight ass with no redeeming qualities aside from an overrated Superman comic he stole from Morrison
>>
>>153328635
>aside from an overrated Superman
I was talking about his Superman TAS comics
I think Millar hate boils down to one core thing, Ennis pisses off EVERYONE but people already know that and already acknowledge he doesn't like capeshit
He took bigger jabs on certain characters than other's like Wolverine and Green Lantern but the only character fanbase I see actually take it a tad more personally are Captain America fans (and even then it's isolated here and has more to do with Ennis' distaste over what the character stood for contradicts his actual history being made by people who would serve in the war)
In Millar's case?
The distaste comes from very specific audiences like Wonder Woman fans hating him for the Rape of Wonder Woman pitch, Iron Man fans hating how he derailed the character with Civil War, etc

Why is Garth Ennis wearing shorts?
>>
>>153328324
He had to "own the incels" because every edgy writer from the 90s eventually turns into a boring Xitter/Bluesky faggot.
>>
>>153329392
He didn't really own them, he generally spent a lot of time on them as characters and made them sympathetic from the issues I read of Babs
>>
>>153329174
He doesn't like them either
>>
>>153328252
>Americans are too culturally illiterate to recognize characters from a children's magazine neither published nor distributed in their country

>>153328560
The problem is that his good writing is often hampered by his edgelord sense of writing and humor. At best it results in tonal inconsistency and random segues to juvenile material, at worst his writing is basically the Sherlock meme except with action/adventure comics.
>>
>>153328596
>This is an industrywide problem
Yes but Ennis is egregious
>>
>>153329714
Instead of worrying about Americans not knowing a kids comic that was never exported here, worry about how your nation is full of 3rd world’s who have no cultural connection to comics like that and can’t even read it.
>>
>>153328635
>And edgy shock content just isn't as popular as it used to be.
Judging from how well his work is doing, I'd argue otherwise.
>>
>>153329714
My point is he's passing this cast off as original characters when they're just pisstakes
>>
>>153329714
>at worst his writing is basically the Sherlock meme
You have to be Moffat tier "it'll all make sense I promise" to descend that far. I can pick out a number of things I don't care for in Ennis but asspulls are rare.
>>
The book's plot is simple: Butcher has become a monster who sees an honorable man and does everything in his power to corrupt Hughie into being just like himself so he can tell himself all it takes is circumstance, power, and knowing the truth. Butcher dies with a smile on his face at the end because he finally made a murderer out of Hughie, even though he had to lie to do so. In Butcher's mind, he won because he can tell himself anyone could become like him.
That's the story, everything else is window dressing. And it's still a more nuanced concept than most cape books manage. You can reread the book and see what Butcher was planning from the beginning because there is no solid reason to recruit a wimp idealist with no tactical skills to The Boys. None. Homelander is an antagonist, not the villain. Stilwell is diabolus ex machina at best. The world's terrible, true, but this is a story about Hughie not Butcher (even given the asides about him). The man who refused a government payout has to be lured into hate and revenge.
>>
>>153331483
It's more about how a lot of his stories basically come off as him writing about how great and competent his protagonist is and the rest of the world is just retards that he outplays.
>>
>>153323092
Garths school bully here, don't worry about it. He's just mad and gets his rage from the fact that we used to make fun of him and call him Garth Anus in school.
>>
>>153328635
>Millar is just straight ass with no redeeming qualities
He has a great podcast.
>>
>>153327964
We even see him afterwards and his eyes are looking around.

>>153329844
"Egregious" is quite a word to use...

>how great and competent his protagonist is and the rest of the world is just retards that he outplays.
Most of them are powerful and cleverer than their nemeses but you'll notice they're also absolute fuckups in their personal relationships, either unable to pull off romance or getting their friends killed if not both. As far as their antagonists being 2-dimensional retards is concerned, I get the impression he doesn't really understand how quickly they take the reader out of the story. Mark Millar should not be better about this than you.

>>153335087
I'm not even trolling, this is literally what he did as an insult to the readers.
>>
I can't stand the hypocrisy of Ennis, particularly in the Kev series.

The SAS are right proper 'ard boyz but also victims of the officers, somehow.

The grubby brown towelheads are also cogs in the machine, but somehow the only people getting killed. I love that in the finale of Kev, the culmination of his grudge against the British government - has him kill a brown guy who was with Saddam. Riveting political commentary, Garth.
>>
>>153323092
I mean, he's absolutely done this in his War Stories, which are amazing. As in, they're genuinely good stories.
