>Animation studios aren't greenlighting original ideas and don't want to pay animators >Indie is financially unsustainable, if you do go that route, expect to juggle a full time job, resulting in less polished work>The only people who will be able to truly get into animation are nepobabies who create trash that no one will watch, leading to less profits for studiosSo, how exactly do we all expect original large scale 2D television animation to continue at this rate? None of this seems like it can lastDo we just accept less polished indie work? The only real successes are Glitch, viv, and maybe Flashgitz. Everyone else is just a hobbyist at bestHow is the indie scene going to replace thousands of animation jobs?
>>153324998cum on fionna soles
Not my problem, figure it out yourselves.
>>153324998Ive had plenty of ideas over the years, it's a shame people didn't care to listen to me and improve the field. Not going to be a dancing clown trying to rattle off all the ones I can remember off the top of my head. You reap what you sow
>>153324998Simple: it won't.Every halfway-developed economy figured out decades ago that if you want art in an inherently commercial system to be made by anyone but foreign slave labor you have to provide grants and endowments.
>>153325308Take your meds guy
>>153324998I FUCKING LOVE FAT GIRL FAILURES!!!I'M GONNA COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!UUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHFFFFFFFFFFFFRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!11!!1shift+1
>>153325333Those exist but they're horped by the corps.Federal subsidies into media are.insane. the big lefty blogosphere boom was all federal money. That's the problem though. They spend the money paying liberal arts majors to write short essays about how boobs in cartoons are offensive. The revenue exists, the grants exist, its possible because it was dine before. The problem is the trough is crowded by tue big dogs. No one else can get a bite until the big dogs finally die.
>>153324998Trying to replace a system that eats itself with the same system is how we got here. Maybe there could be other options.
>>153325377>Federal subsidies for the arts are insane Lmao you're fucking delusional. Federal grant money was always tiny and now doesn't exist. The biggest incentives to animate in the US came from state tax breaks in Georgia and California.>Muh arts majors! You're one of them alt right retards huhAlways thought it was weird when you freaks espouse a love for things like cartoons and star trek
>>153325346Also you have all these male losers looking to use an animation position to tell people what to do and set norms so I don't want them to be pleased. Kick them the fuck out if you want help
>>153325415> Always thought it was weird when you freaks espouse a love for things like cartoons and star trekDiscord-groomed zoomer moment
>>153324998Nothing lasts forever.Take it from an Anon who comes from a long line of Circus performers, do you think I'm in the Circus now?
>>153325421>Kick out (the entire artist pool) if you want help (from a destitute schizophrenic the spends all his time drawing sacred geometry and whining that he doesn't get credit for the divine time-traveling telepathic messages he sent Andrew Hussie)
>>153325415Faggot
>>153325415>star trekAdmittedly, I only really like star trek when it's the least like star trek, I reject its underlying ideology entirely.
>>153325454You're continuing to prove you're a deranged loser who wants to use animation for social controlEvery artist isn't the same as you, they'vejust been groomed to believe they should court every piece of trash without standardsYoure also projecting, the fuck is that schizophrenic image supposed to mean
>>153325333Ehh, in the current economy it's going to be a tough sell to get people to support subsidies for art if the art being produced is garbage that's only enjoyed by autistic people in their 20s and 30s.It made sense to fund stuff like PBS and Sesame Street, and I think those things being gutted was awful, but it doesn't really make much sense for everyone to be contributing to a system that only serves a scant few and tells everyone else to go fuck themselves. The art subsidies work in those other countries because they're used to create things aimed at all sorts of members of the populace, the same isn't really true in America, and likely never will be.
>>153325495Fag.
>>153325518>Literal schizo is so lost in delusion and hallucination an image of a man looking very done with his shit causes unbearable confusion Hilarious Stop posting on 4chan and see a doctor, guy
>>153325565NuTrek is just the the natural end result of that ideology.
>>153325529PBS and Sesame Street are public broadcast and educational endowments >The art subsidies work in those other countries because they're used to create things aimed at all sorts of members of the populaceThis is wrong and stupid. Arts endowments typically aren't used to make mass-market products. They're for works that don't expect to succeed commercially.>The same isn't true in America There are no real art endowments in America You live in a world you made the fuck up
>>153325595Buddy that is not a painting of a man “done with my shit” or anyone else’sYou haven't even learned to accept that other people have different intentions and perceptions than you and expect everyone else to accommodate what a nondeveloped piece of shit you are. >>153325615No
>>153325675AbsolutelyThe slippery slope has always been real
>>153325634>This is wrong and stupid.Huh?That's completely correct in countries like China, Korea, and Japan.Fucking Genshin Impact was partially funded with government backing, IIRC the devs even had a photoshoot with government officials in their offices.>There are no real art endowments in America I live in Massachusetts, this is blatantly false, there aren't many federal endowments for the arts in America, but there are TONS of endowments on the local and state level, and they're largely used to produce the same stuff for the same audiences.
>>153325017>>153325352Yes. That, too, was my takeaway from Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake.
>>153324998>Sees OP picMaybe animators shouldn't have pushed for garbage for a two decades.
>>153325754/>for a two decadesESLbro….
>>153325754Maybe you should end it.
>>153325695Massachusetts is an outlier in public support for the arts and public funding, so it makes sense you would have formed that impression.
>>153325635>I cannot read faces because of my extremely advanced and untreated schizophreniaYes, I'm aware. I read your substack. I might be the only one who does.
>>153324998One thing I don't get is, if people are richer nowadays, then how come they claim they don't have the money to pay animators and artists? To me, it stands to reason that, if people in the past, with less money, resources and less efficient tools were able to do masterpieces, people nowadays should be able to do the same at an even faster pace.
>>153325695>Endowments in (countries with slave labor)lmaoThat's not endowments those are investments that are expected to be paid back
>>153326118Why in the fuck would you think "people are richer?"
>>153326124>in (countries with slave labor)So...the entire western world?Outsourcing your slave labor doesn't suddenly mean you no longer make use of slave labor.
>So, how exactly do we all expect original large scale 2D television animation to continue at this rate?
>>153326137Anon read the whole reply chain before responding
>>153326066It really isn't but you don't really see the sheer amount of money going into arts in places like New York. Ironically its much more visible in the south where a single sculpture or painting showing up is a huge deal.
>>153326167>It really isn't It really is.NYC is another massive outlier in terms of STATE and LOCAL support Which is, of course, still totally irrelevant to the federal discussion we're having.
>>153325779Italian was anon's first language
>>153326135Because there are more people consuming more products when compared to the past, therefore there is a larger circulation of money, money that flows into the entertainment industry one way or another.
>>153326167>Ironically its much more visible in the south where a single sculpture or painting showing up is a huge deal.Yes, because local funding for the arts in the South is shit. That’s why MA and NY have so much public art you think it’s the norm.
>>153326188The US is far too big for federal grants for the arts to ever be something people are going to agree on, for obvious reasons.Even a lot of the stuff in California was funded by state grants and state tax relief for studios, which is partially why a lot of Hollywood production is moving to Georgia, the UK, and sometimes New York, since they provide tax relief for studios who film there.
>>153325451Man you just reminded me of that one actual clown who used to post on /tg/I hope he's not dead in a ditch somewhere
>>153326118People are not only not richer(they have more fluid cash but also more expenses and comparatively lower purchasing power), they also just have less time. Nobody has time to consoom hundreds of hours of media every week. Nobody can fit doomscrolling on social media + something playing on netflix or prime on the background + gaming in some form + actually living and doing things on the time they're off work. This is the real death kneel of media. You can fuck with the metrics and make unprofitable things still sell and 'succeed' but you can't actually expand viewership after you reach capacity, there is only one earths' worth of humans, and they all have so many hours of attention spam to give you. Once a person has everything they like set up they are out of the market for new entertainment.
>>153326118The richer people nowadays are motivated by being richer to get richer, whereas the wealthy people who accomplished those things in the past were self-motivated to use wealth to create wealth.
>>153326259That makes sense. Maybe there's just too many options these days. There's youtube, there's tiktok, there's social media, games, series, not to mention non-internet-related stuff. We're living in an absolute excess of entertainment options.
>>153326239My Grandfather was a clown in the old country. My father realized there was no more money in the Circus and got his degree.Circus as we know it (tent and three rings) is really a phenomenon that only goes back to the late 19th century.
>>153326239...What?
>>153325333>provide grants and endowmentsPretty sure the masses would rather fund housing and healthcare more than providing welfare for the CEO's of media corporations. Most people dont even realise media subsidies exist, it only started being talked about in the last 5 years. Any industry would benefit from subsidies, so why does animation get special treatment?
>>153326407This too, I like animation, but I like living and eating and not being homeless a hell of a lot more than any cartoon.
>>153326407Everyone on /co/ always knew of art grants because they are the only reason we got so many terrible and boring Canadian cartoons in the early 2000s. Well guess what Canada, Norm won in the end, fuck you.

>>153326440A guy like that is probably a gadjo.
>>153325716Based. I want to have sweaty, animalistic sex with Fionna after she gets fired from her latest wagie job.
>>153326494He wasn’t
>>153326214That's an incredibly stupid and simplistic view of economics.Purchasing power has been declining for decades
>>153326407>Pretty sure the masses would rather spend money on housingClearly not as they've voted against that every election since Carter.Besides which the idea that government programs are mutually exclusive because of budget constraints is retarded nonsense. Literal propaganda.>Why would people want art subsidies and endowments? To make sure their country has art and culture that isn't just capitalism.
Births are declining, purchasing power is declining. We and our money are dwindling resources over which markets are competing. We are obviously going to put short term essentials such as food over entertainment. The entertainment industries (music, vidya, cartoons, movies etc) should had improved in order to remain competitive. Instead they declined in quality, they got more expensive, and they antagonized their potential customers. There's nothing to be done anymore.
>>153327198>they've voted against>gestures at current year>art and culture Corperate media is capitalist you muppet, UBI/grants for individual artists would be what you are describing, not commercialized subsidies
