Why isn't it as fondly remembered as other early 2000s CN shows?
>>153331760It's a bit tame compared to other shows of the time. Klasky cartoons were out of vogue by then too.
boring
if there was a button i could press that killed people that asked "why wasn't this cartoon from 30 years ago as popular as a different cartoon from 30 years ago?" on /co/ i would tape it down
>>153331760>Thrown to 3AM graveyard timeslots almost immediately when it went to seriesCan't remember it if nobody ever saw it.
>>153331786it would be funny if someone scooped out your eyeballs with a spoon
>>153331760>fondly remembereddidn't it have like 10 episodes total? it wouldn't even be worth replaying on the network.
>>153331798>on a timeslot>shitty timeslot>where nobody goes
i only remember this show exists because it was in those cartoon network flash games i was obsessed with
>>153331760It's a C+ on a channel that was airing straight A's
>we want the pragmata audience
>>153331814It was about 20 or so, but it's one of those mid-af shows that everyone forgets about until someone mentions it, like Fatdog or Doug.
>>153331760Shows like this and Doug taught me for the first time as a kid that cartoons could be boring, just like how CatDog taught me that cartoons could exist where not a single character was likable.
>>153331842I wonder how they decided which pilot's characters to use, considering none of them got selected for shows.
>>153331760That looks like it belongs on Nickelodeon instead
>>153332924i had no idea they were meant to be actual characters in cartoons, i always thought they were just weird ocs
>>153331760It was just not as interesting or exciting compared to the other shows airing at the time
>>153331858You're vastly overrating cartoon network.
>>153331774FPBP (Far too mundane for Cartoon Network)
>>153331808Only after sand, chilies and powdered bleach were rubbed into them first.
>>153331760it was kind of milquetoastlike sheep in the big city"wacky" premise but structurally boring

>>153331814
Its still one of my Fav shows , and I do fan ats of Mike all the time .
>>153337049
>>153336297Sheep at least had some insanely well done jokes. MLaO on the other hand has nothing.
>>153331760I have good memories of it, it was not bad. the stuff with pirates was probably the best thing about.
>>153337370I find it hilarious that CN had a “no pirates” rule at the time and yet they somehow approved of this.
>>153337394I would assume Flapjack killed the rule
>>153331760>>153331798Mike Lu & Og was a bit of an arcane-knowledge show, but I liked it, or at least didn't hate it. I mean it wasn't my favorite or anything, but I watched it whenever I was channel surfing.>>153332757Catdog and Doug were fine too. Bit weird, like Rocko, but fine.
>>153332757>CatdogGlad someone else thinks it's mid at best. Like I don't get why that show gets the appreciation it does.>DougThe only people who have a hateboner for it are people named Doug, and Doug Walker. I remember watching and enjoying it all the way back in 1993.
>>153337130>Sheep at least had some insanely well done jokesSeriously did that anon even watch the show? Sheep in the Big City was hilarious.
>>153332770 >>153337513 I said "Fat Dog", it had maybe one funny joke per episode, but I'm not into weird humor.
>>153337513>Glad someone else thinks it's mid at best. Like I don't get why that show gets the appreciation it does.Catdog is regularly shit on and I've never seen someone say it was good who wasn't absolutely nostalgia-blind and hadn't seen a single episode in years. I fucking hated it as a kid even back then and I don't remember a single other kid in my classes liking it either.
>>153337803Kids who hated catdog grew up to be autistic little cretins who obsess about children's cartoons as adults. Kids who liked catdog grew up to be well-adjusted, productive members of society.
>>153331760Worst show from that era
>>1533317601) Short-lived.2) Animated by Soviet immigrants in that same style that's only loved by people who played a lot of their adventure point and click games (that genre Monkey Island is in) as kids out of nostalgia.3) The foreign visual style aside, it also followed a lot of the "rules" of soviet cartoons in the way characters move and interact, which might have looked off to Western kids. Such as the characters acting like people instead of cartoons, low levels of violent slapstick and low-brow jokes, a morally educational subtext, and a reserved pace mostly carried by writing rather than visual stimulation.4) Bad time slot in the US, apparently. It ran in normal time slots on CN Europe, though. So probably a lot more Europeans know it.
>>153337904I didn't know that bitter Nickelodeon executives from the 90s browsed /co/
>>153333003no it doesn't
>>153338429I'm assuming you feel it has a Klascy Csupo vibe huh?
>>153338845If you're implying people who hate CD all hate K-C animation, then you're wrong. I love their animation and I think CatDog is garbage. Nothing about it is appealing. Even though I love plenty of other cartoons the studio behind it made. So I'm guessing I hated specifically the writing, although the designs didn't help.
>>153331760I liked the end credits song and the island aesthetic but I couldn't tell you my favorite episode from this show or even 9be plotline. Course it's been like 30 years.
>>153340283It wasn't memorable because it didn't have any exciting action scenes, insane plots or hilarious jokes. Its genre was closest to slice of life, with some mild verbal comedy.
