This is a kino trope, and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.
>>
what if it just started with the lore right away if you like it so much?
>>
I want a cohesive story with setup, payoff, and an ending. I basically just want animated series to be animated fffffFFFFFUCKING novels and/or book series.
any recs btw?
>>
>>153351078
Gargoyles
Roswell Conspiracies
Avatar: The Last Airbender
>>
>>153351078
Moral Orel. The ending was kinda rushed due to a cancellation but the last episode is still a satisfying ending .
>>
>>153351005
I don't, because it betrays the initial premise.

If the show gathered a decent audience that liked it for what it was, why change it? I mean yeah, you can add a bit of lore here and there, perhaps some minor drama and development, but nothing that would change the vibe of the show in a permanent manner.

I think it is unfair to part of the audience that expected things to be what they were at first, but then again I suppose the author can tell whatever story they want to tell, but the audience is in no way shape or form forced to like it.
>>
>>153351078
So you're looking for a story? Bold take anon. Now specify the duration of each story and now you'll realize that we're back at what OP is talking about.
Also thinly veiled AT thread bee tee dubs.
>>153351022
Some shows should start like that and others having a massive change in tone is also good.
>>153351005
It can be. But 2010's shows havetired me out on it.
That's why my book series idea which I am starting after I finish the book I'm about to start seriously working on is going to jump straight into continuous narrative but it will have the tone for a little bit of that "Season 1" as shown in OP or AT season 1. Also Pen Ward being the main guy is probably why that series caught on so hard. The lore was a big component of building the fanbase that stuck around but the initial artstyle, season 1 is gorgeous, and the humor for the most part was unique to it while taking in some of the cultural internet speak of the time. Yes some of it is dated or bad but I think it was why the show had staying power. Pieces of media to become huge sometimes need immersive qualities like unique language, objects, and behaviors for it to stick in minds.
>>
>>153351156
Are you that tonal dissonance or whatever retard guy?
>>
>>153351078
Godzilla the animated series
>>
>>153351130
Anything with conspiracy in the title's gotta be right up my alley.

>>153351140
Is it? Always assumed it was more along the lines of something like South Park.
>>
>>153351219
No, and I don't know what you're talking about.
Typical ad hominem.
>>
>>153351255
An artist isn't required to follow what the audience wants.
>>
>>153351277
Nor is the audience required to like the direction he takes the series.

>ep. 1 - lore
>ep. 2-71 - wacky hijinx
>ep. 72 - lore

Why can't anyone see this is how you do it?
>>
>>153351291
You don't have power over the artist.
>>
>>153351322
Hate when stories are like this. I'm always wanting to get back to the actual plot.
>>
>>153351291
>>153351330
Thankfully if an artist goes full retard people can stop watching or paying for shit.
Unless the artist is doing it for free that stops the flow of shit from all sides.
>>
>>153351330
Don't know what you're reading, but I am not saying that. I said on my very first post that yes, the artist is free to do what he wants, but the audience is not obliged to like it or to continue to support the show/comic/whatever if they feel like it is going in a direction they do not approve of. That's just how it works.
>>
>>153351156
This, at least if it's loreshit from the start I just skip it.
>>
>>153351322
Why even bother with lore at that point.
>>
>>153351005
Gumball is basically this.
>>
>>153351078
Paranoia agent
>>
>>153352483
That was boring.
>>
>>153352498
Only if you are low iq, it has a proper setup, payoff and ending with good characters and explores some themese that are not present in most animation. Too bad a lot of dumb people were filtered by the ending.
>>
>>153351078
Literally Invincible
If not, then Primal
>>
>>153352558
Invincible hasn’t ended
>>
>>153351005
lore should be stuff sprinkled on top of a good story and in my opinion you should be as obtuse as possible about it and leave a lot of it if not most of it unanswered. because mystery is fun and piecing stuff yourself is fun.
>>
>>153352811
>and leave a lot of it if not most of it unanswered
What if it's a mystery cartoon instead of a fantasy one with some mystery sprinkled in?
>>
>>153351322
Literally Amphibia, piece of shit of a series
>>
>>153351022
I didn't even watch adventure time for a few seasons for this exact reason.
>>
>>153351343
>four month hiatus between steven universe episodes
>first episode coming back is a townie episode
>>
>>153351005
>greelight a comedy show
>O WELL FUCK THE STDIO DID YOU KNOW I WAS A SAD TEENAGER NOT LIKE THE OTHERS THAT LIKED TO *GASP* READ AND WATCH SAILOR MOON????
>WTF STUDIO CANCELLED US NO THIRD SEASON REEEEEEEE I'M COMMUNIST NOW
no, fuck OP's shows.
>>
>>153352817
i mean if the aim of the show is to answer several questions sure, but imo a lot of stuff should still be left unanswered. it's like you took a peek inside this universe and you didn't get to see every part of it.
>>
>>153351078
Anime - Like almost all of the best series are adaptation of finished or almost finished manga series with clear beginnings, middles, and ends and complete character arcs, etc. It's frustrating that western animation studios don't adapt more book series and shit.

this is exactly how I like it. I already know your tv trope character roster, now I want to learn about the history of the world.
>>
>>153352483
Isn't it only 1 season?
>>
>>153353133
Yes.
>>
>>153351005
shittyass trope actually
>>
>>153351005
What if I want 3 good seasons of silly adventures with lore sprinkled in the background? Like just enough to kickstart the plot every other episode but not too much to make the later episodes feel like homework that takes priority over the silliness?

You understand why the majority of cartoons are like this, right?
You don't need it explained to you, do you?
>>
>>153353088
Yikes
>>
>>153353791
>majority
The majority of cartoons are comedies without lore though.
>>
Cartoons can't do actual lore. They can only satirize lore. Even the most circlejerked cartoons completely fuck it up. It's better to just imply lore for the sake of mood and never explore too deeply. Teen Titans & Ben 10 nailed it with this.

Stop worshiping liquid shit,cultist
>>
>>153351022
‘Miraculous’ kinda starts like that.
>>
>>153351005
Is there an opposite example?
>>
>>153353872
What, you mean something that starts off having a plot, and then it gets resolved and the show is episodic for the rest of time?
>>
>>153351005
>kids show
>Kids show but is le "deep and mature" with a totally deaf artstyle to appeal to mentally stunted manchilds
Adventure Time is cancer
>>
>>153351005
What I hate is that for some reason these shows almost never have a middle ground. It’s either episodic stuff where there is not real continuity or bullshit that gets so absorbed in the story that it goes up its own ass. Why can’t there just be a show where shit happens in an episode and the episodes after it will acknowledge it. KND is one of the few I can think of that managed to do it without getting too bogged down. Hell even Johnny Test did it.
>>
>>153351322
That's just Steven Universe
>>
>>153353847

Reboot comes to mind.
>>
>>153351247
It's genuinely great. It's not so original today after all the mainstreamness of Ancient Aliens but at the time I remember thinking it was such a cool idea that all of our myths and legends are actually just aliens. Their designs are so cool and the way it all ties together is chef's kiss.

This could be a good concept if done right, but so far no cartoon really has, and their efforts have been embarrassing to the point that it makes it seem like a bad concept instead. The problem isn't the concept, it's everyone's execution of it.
>>
I suppose anything here would count, right?

>>153352992
Kinda this. A lot of the best anime tend to be serialized and the only cartoon that even comes close to them is Avatar
>>
>>153351005
>Season 1: silly adventures
This is how loresows get foot in the door. Execs fucking DESPISE lore shows.

If you want to say, just say it already, smug Jenny
>>
>>153352992
Yes I agree, people here try to mimic anime all the time, but they're approaching it the wrong way. It's not just about the visual style, it's also about making a story with well defined arcs and ending.

Depends on how it's done really. I liked it when Amphibia did it, but hated when Big Top Burger did it.
>>
>>153353811
Ben 10 was great saturday morning style fun, shame the sequel show fucked it up.

>>153354335
Season 1 was so fun.

>>153351322
You tell me.
>>
>>153351078
Blue-Eyed Samurai isn't done yet (I don't think S2 is even out) but it's pretty much main plot right from the start.

>>153355793
Which sucks for us when they get sabotaged for insolence and no one who actually wants to pick one up has reliable metrics to point to
>>

If I can name animu then Dennou Coil
>>
>>153351005
Basically the cartoons of the 2010's that love this trope in result ruining the main character
>>
>>153355597
If no one can make the concept work, perhaps it really is a bad concept that only works in theory, anon.
>>
>>153357471
Name one other than AT.
>>
>>153351005
It's fine if it works but things like Chikin Nugget sucked for doing that
>>
>>153360983
see the thing is, you can't just drop lore randomly. it's got to be relevant to the plot. you can do that through an overarching plot or in a more episodic series you can make each individual episode establish worldbuilding stuff through its plot, but you can't randomly drop "scrungus boogle blop comes from the moon and genetically engineered the human race!?" without giving anyone a reason to care.

i don't know if this actually relates to chikin nugget i don't watch it lmao
