This is a better channel than Boomerang ever was. Only problem is that some of the CinemaScope Tom and Jerry shorts are airing in pan and scan.
>>
>>153356302
Way better than Boomerang. Not as good as 90s |Cartoon Network but that would require them having a massive budget and a huge marketing team with creative people making original interstitial content. But those days are long over. As far as content goes, MeTV Toons is tops.
>>
>>153356302
I just hope MeTV brings in 90s action cartoons for their next block.
>>
>>153356302
I couldnt agree more. The sheer range their line has even now is astonishing. At this point the only things I really want to see them add to the line up are DCAU shows, the original Thundercats, and maybe a few nicktoons. I wouldnt be surprised to see it happen sooner or later.

That said, I'm pretty interested in that nu-hub network hasbro is working on. The line up is alot more limited but I'd sit through it for a few hours a day.
>>
>>153356928
Swat Kats would make ideal Sunday programming given its short run. What else would you hope to see?
>>
>>153357018
For some reason WB plays hardball with the DCAU and ThunderCats. I guess because they still make a lot of money directly selling them on physical media, or because they do good streaming numbers.
>>
>>153357088
That sounds like them. As frustrating as it is I could stomach the loss if we got some more obscure shows to air out of it. Tigersharks, turbo teen, Bionic 6, Fangface, and about a dozen other Warner-owned series havent seen the light of day in decades. They could make for a decent block all their own.

Still it does blow, Thundercats and BTAS or even Batman Beyond would be such hits in syndication. Frankly I'm still surprised we havent seen more legacy CN series on the network. Johnny Bravo, Dexter, PPG, Cow&Chicken would all be big deals.
>>
>>153357036
Mummies Alive, The Tick, Bot Masters, Robocop Alpha Commando, Godzilla: The Series, Extreme Ghostbusters, Men in Black: The Series, Reboot, and Mega Man. I'd love to see a DCAU cartoon on MeTV but that would be impossible and can't require the rights..
>>
>>153357088
I'm surprised that Super friends, Legion of Superheroes, Krypto The Superdog made to MeTV. I guess that Warner Bros just don't find them successful.
>>
Is this on real TV?
>>
>>153357895
It's on basic tv. I think there are some cable providers that carry it now as well.

MeTV and MeTV Toons are free with a 20 dollar antenna. I still enjoy my Saturday cartoons with my bowl of cereal with MeTV. Most TV's still have a coax, but I know for a fact there's a USB thing since I run my HAM radio through my computer.
>>
>>153358085
MeTV isn't cable tv. Though I would absolutely still watch cable tv in 2026 if it wasn't shit. Thankfully, MeTV and all of it's sister channels are not shit.

>>
>>153357573
Holy shit I hadnt considered most of those. Of the titles mentioned the only hard pull might be Tick due to the Fox buyout, but Sony really is loaded. God imagine a Fourth of July marathon featuring Big Guy and Rusty!
>>
>>153357691
I wasnt as surprised myself. Superfriends is over 50 yrs old now and they dont merchandise it heavily, Krypto was concieved as an I/E series for children and is meant for kids under 8, and Legion was damned to Kids WB back in the day. All these shows have their fans mind you but they're not money printers like BTAS and Thundercats still are. Legion never even had a toyline, just some mcdonalds premiums. Krypto and Superfriends by comparison both did.
>>
>>153356302
that wouldnt be MeTV's fault, it would be WBD's
same as the Super Mario cartoon airing a shitty AI upscale

classic disney shorts
the 80s/90s disney afternoon
and everything in the Fox Kids/Saban vault

>>
>>153359639
>>153359659
isnt metv toons broadcasted in 480i? why upscale at all?
>>
>>153359700
They asked for Mario from Wildbrain and thats what they delivered.
Wildbrain said it was to make it watchable for today's audiences, when they shouldve just fixed the animation errors. Most couldve been done digitally.
>>
>>153359700
>isnt metv toons broadcasted in 480i?
On most stations yes, but the master feed is in 720. If you subscribe to Frndly for example they show it in better resolution.
>>
>>153359780
that's wild man, i could make a better 'hd rip' from the DVDs and OBS
>>
>>153360071
Yeah stick with the DVD. In fact, theres a Pluto TV Channel called "Go Go Gadget" that airs it regularly, using the original version.
Wildbrain hoped putting a 1989 cartoon into a program would suddenly make it watchable for the kids of today. It won't.
They'll be bored and watch something else with the infinite optipns they have today, and the audience who grew up with it in the first place will hate this "upgrade". They did something they didn't have to do, and ended up pleasing nobody.
>>
Seeing how many great cartoons are on this network really makes me realize what a waste of airtime Hanna-Barbera shows are.
>>
>>153361147
60's HB is alright.

I would love to see Big Guy and Rusty again on tv and I hope they'll manage to pull through if it happens.
>>153359117
Makes sense. I wonder will see The Zeta Project for being obscure.
>>
>>153357018
>>153357088
>>153357691
The big problem with airing DC shows is that DC Entertainment has to sign off on everything, not just Warner's TV licensing division.
>>
>>153362133
Oh crap your right.
>>
>>153362081
>I would love to see Big Guy and Rusty again on tv and I hope they'll manage to pull through if it happens.
Big Guy & Rusty is owned by Sony. As far as I can tell, the only Sony-owned series MeTV airs is The Real Ghostbusters, so it appears their partnership isn't as strong with Sony as it is with Warner or WildBrain. Not impossible, but not likely, it seems.
>>
>>153362133
I was surprised to see that they got the rights to the legion of superhero’s show from about 20 years ago, it’s new enough to be in wide screen. I doubt we’ll ever get a modern Batman show on Metv but it does seem like they have access to a bunch of Warner stuff. I wish we could get the 60s marvel shows but I doubt Disney will ever play ball
>>
>>153356736
It's like TCM for cartoons.
>>
>>153362216
I'm crossing my fingers.
>>
>>153362081
Zeta Project seems like a definite contender. It didnt last long and I doubt the warner suits even recognize it's connection to Beyond.
>>153362133
Well so far they've been pretty agreeable. I was certain Superfriends would never make it, but here we are. If the DCAU is off the table then Ruby Spears Superman and Filmation Batman could make for some good future contenders.
>>153362216
Well Sony also owns the UPA cartoon library, so Magoo and the like also came from them. In a previous thread discussing Hasbro Legends one anon suggested Dinosaucers be aired. I'd still love that.
>>
>>153362264
I wish they'ed air all the PD Oswald and Mickey shorts just to spite Disney. They'll never play ball anyways, even on low rung shows. Might aswell spite them.
>>
>>153357691
Don't forget Plastic Man too.
>>153362948
Nope which is perfect of how obscure it and Warner won't even care.
>>
>>153363042
If we're going off overall success and short runs then /maybe/ GLTAS and Beware the Batman could be contenders.
>>
I really wish MeTV Toons made a bigger deal of animated movies. Warner's sitting on hundreds of titles between DC, Scooby Doo, and Tom and Jerry alone. Then toss in their other theatrical features and you have a pretty solid line up.
>>
>>153363606
Possible.

>>
>>153362965
one time cartoon network aired screwy squirrel for the whole day. it was like 5 theatrical shorts on loop
metv toons should do a whole day of PD disney like that
>>
>>153364547
I'd be game for it. I bet the Fleischers would love to restore those shorts too. They've just about covered all of the PD Betty and Popeye shorts as is. Hell you could slide in some Flip the Frog cartoons too considering the Ub Iwerks relationship.
>>
>>153361254
Reserving Space Ghost, Herculoids, Moby Dick, and Mightor for Saturday afternoons was a stroke of genius. I look forward to it all week.
>>153364116
Man if you think about it the Ricky Gervais show could make for some great late night programming on the network. They barely curse in the series. The bleeps wouldnt be all that obtrusive.
>>
>>153356302
They don't have it in my area :(
>>
while we're on the subject of ai upscales, help a dummy out here
why is it that i can whip out an old vhs of some cartoon and it looks great on my 25 inch crt
but if i find a 480i transfer of the same cartoon and play it fullscreen on a modern 25 inch hd monitor, it looks like ass
>>
>>153365861
As I've heard it, modern TV's blow up analog pictures to fit their dimensions so everything looks really fuzzy and shitty.
>>
>>153356302
Do they keep the racial jokes?
>>
>>153366330
Yeah on more than one occasion. They usually just air a content warning beforehand and then run the episode.
>>
>>153366330
Just today I saw a tom and jerry short
Where the yellow ducky character had black paint on his face with his red beak as the mouth and had those curly head things and tom was afraid of him
>>
>>153366330
they still censored the chinese guy in one of the woody woodpecker shorts, so i guess not.

Any chance of anime outside of Speed Racer? They already have 2000s era shows like Krypto so time period isn’t an issue. Shouldn’t be too hard to get something like Samurai Pizza cats or early Pokemon reruns
>>
>>153368694
Pizza cats is a maybe. Pokemon could go either way considering we just got the DIC Mario show. I'm surprised they havent considered airing 8-man or Gigantor yet.
>>
>>153356302
If you say so.
>>
>>153366330
Hit and miss. Some they do, while some they don't.

To this day, I still can't figure out why the Popeye short 'Puppet Love' gets a content warning.
>>
>>153356928
You get Bruce Timm's DCAU and like it.
>>153368694
No, licensing fees are $5 million US dollars per 13 episode cour when it come to anime.
https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/feature/2021-08-02/how-much-does-it-cost-to-license-anime-series/.175579

>Pokémon
That has to be signed off by The Pokémon Company, not Nintendo and it's licensing fees are said to be $13 million US dollars for 13 episode cour because of the IP itself, more then double then getting something like One Piece or Spy X Family which goes for $5 million per 13 episode cour each.
>>
>>153371910
We want Timm's DCAU but we suspect MeTV cant afford it.

If we're still talking classic anime I think either G-Force or Gigantor are most likely. G-force is owned by cookie jar nowadays. They probably need the money and will settle.
>>
>>153372086
Battle of the Planets reverted back to Tatsunoko while the original Gigantor reverted back to Eiken.
>>
>>153371910
There's already a 24/7 Pokémon channel on Pluto TV.
https://pluto.tv/us/live-tv/6675c7868768aa0008d7f1c7
>>
>>153372125
fuck. Maybe 8-man then? The eng dub is public domain
>>
>>153373101
Eiken is cheap to work with, it's even said that they make more money licensing 8-Man and Gigantor content in a year then they do with Sazae-San (their main show since 1969) in a decade due to how the creator's estate handles the IP as it took until this very year just to have the show air in Taiwan but Eiken is willing to dump everything else to MeTV Toons they have for cheap since they are despite for the type of cash Toei gets per month.

With Tatsunoko Battle of the Planets isn't out of the question since MeTV Toons already has Speed Racer; Time Bokan and Yatterman will be a problem since the main villain who is female tends to go topless often so that will be a issue, but theres always Bob in a Bottle, Huch The Honey Bee, and The Littl' Bits.
>>
>>153371910
youre quoting the first run + exclusive license rate
the same article says rerun + not exclusive can go for less than $1000 per episode
>>
>>153377356
That hasn't been the case since the mid 90s, once Pokémon made it big Japan jacked up their rates.
>>
>>153375449
Hopefully they consider making the deal with them then. Gigantor and 8-man would be nice additions to the line up.
>>
Shit I just realized MeTV Toons could cut a deal with World Events productions for all the Voltron series pre-netflix. They could possibly license Robotech from Harmony Gold too.
>>
>>153377512
>Another thread ruined by Famicom.
I swear, that bitch of a person never faces a ban alongside Sharkfag, Sallyfag, Stolasfag........... Do I noticed a trend of (character or thing)fag from these anons?
>>
>>153359780
>PRspeak

Oh, so they're destroyers.
>>
>>153368694
The channel's core audience are boomers, Gen-Xers and older millennials. They didn't buy Krypto as a solo series. They got it in their huge WB library deal, so it's not really reflective of what they pick up. There isn't a lot of anime that holds nostalgic value to that demographic. Battle of the Planets, Astro Boy, Gigantor, Robotech, Voltron, Star Blazers, Saber Rider, etc. The thing is, most of the rights to those shows have reverted to the Japanese licensors.

Is it worth MeTV's time to create relationships with those companies for one or two shows? Then you'd have to deal with the reality that some of them might not want the reversions to be dug out again. I'm reminded of the failed Toonami Rewind push, which was trying to be a millennial nostalgia block featuring versions of Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon that most millennials would not be nostalgic for. Who the fuck is Usagi?
>>
I want rocky and billwinkle to come back but I can't blame them for removing it
The ownership of the show became confusing now

>When Tranny Smith and Famicom now work together............

>>153378142
It seems like DreamWorks holds the Voltron rights, through Classic Media's partnership with WEP.
>>
>>153359639
Shitty upscale and they're only airing the Mario cartoons, and not any of the Zelda episodes which I guess will never air ever even though they also had live-action Mario segments at the beginning and end. WildBrain is terrible.

It's getting 40+ million views a day, it is not worthless.

>>153381642
That and the fact it's a 24/7 tv channel that play old and some newish cartoons that isn't educational
>>
>>153381665
True.
>>
>>153379244
Considering they air Woody all week long you'd think they'ed have more of those shows in the rotation. MOTU, Mighty Hercules, magic bag Felix the Cat, etc.
