This page on the Spongebob Wiki ( https://spongebob.fandom.com/wiki/Sandy_Cheeks/appearances ) lists all of Sandy’s appearances and categorized them as “Major”, “Supporting”, “Minor”, and “Cameo”. I am using this as my basis for the below rankings. If you believe that any Sandy appearances were missed or improperly categorized (especially since that criteria is subjective), please let me know. There were two episodes where alternate world counterparts of Sandy appeared (Dunces and Dragons & Welcome to Binary Bottom), both of which I counted as major appearances. I calculated “inclusion scores” for each seasons, using the formula (1\*Major Roles + 0.5\*Supporting Roles + 0.25\*Minor Roles + 0.1\*Cameo). I then divided that score by the season’s episode count, with that percentage providing the inclusion rate. With that, here is each season ranked by inclusion rate:So I’ll just give a few observations. As of now, I’ve seen all of seasons 1-10, part of 11, and none after that, but I plan on rewatching and catching up on the show soon. Sandy is my favorite character on the show since she’s very likeable and cool, she’s a great gateway for the show to do cool sci-fi and action stuff, and and her dynamic with Spongebob and Patrick is really fun since she acts as a straight-man and has fun banter with them, while all liking each other. Because of this, I believe that most seasons of the show underuse her, and she was a factor in some of my season rankings. Season 3 severely sidelining her is an underdiscussed flaw of that season that is part of why I like it less than Season 1 & 2, and Season 8 including her a lot is a part of why I like that season more than most fans (I consider it better than 9a and 10).(1/2)
I am disappointed that after she was included so much in seasons 8 and 9, that seasons after that appear to be inconsistent in including her (with her being underused in seasons 10, 12, 13, and 15 while getting good inclusion in 11, 16, and especially 14). She is pretty disconnected from the rest of the main characters; she is neither involved with the Krusty Krab or by Spongebob, and she is very different from the other characters in being from the land and much smarter and well rounded. Therefore, suppose that using her often doesn’t seem like a natural choice for the writers. However, I believe that she should be used very frequently due to the fun and value she provides to the show. There are multiple ensemble episodes the show has done lacking her that could have been better and more interesting if she was included (Truth or Square comes to mind). From the seasons I have seen; seasons 1, 8, and 9b provide the gold standard for how she should be used on the show. I am very glad she was included on the show at the beginning. The show would have felt complete and worked without her being a character at all, but her inclusion always has really helped make the show better. I’d argue that she and Plankton were the only main cast with consistently good characterization in the post-1st movie seasons. I know other fans don’t like that she became more science focused over time, but that didn’t bug me since I really like both her action and science side. Anyways, I’m hoping that I’ll enjoy the seasons I haven’t watched yet and that future seasons will be good about including Sandy. Does anybody here have thoughts about these statistics and her appearances over the years? Any surprises in these rankings?(2/2)
