Why don't DC/Marvel license out their dormant/obscure characters to outside creators like manga authors in Japan instead of just letting them sit unused? I get that the multiverse framework could isolate it from main canon, and I understand brand control is a factor but what's the real argument against it for characters nobody is using anyway?
