>"you don't have to say it>Iroh says itI don't get it. Even Zuko says he knows afterwards.
>>153362672Looking back Season 1 Zuko was such a raging faggot
"you don't have to say it" can be true, but it can also be cope. Sometimes you do need people to say it. whether its I love you, or im proud of you, you did a good job, you did your best. its not your fault. Whatever the thing is. Sometimes you know its true without hearing it. Sometimes you are just telling yourself that because no one ever says it and its cope. Its hard to believe some one cares about you if they never say it, a life time of no evidence.
>>153362890It's selfish of Iroh to put Zuko in the position of adopted son. He never asked for that yet it's foisted on him. Zuko never expressed need for a father figure.
>>153362938That is by far the most retarded take I've ever read.
>>153362938Maybe not explicitly in writing or something. But all of his actions are an expression of need for a father figure. They show a strong desire to get his fathers approval. He is mono focused on capturing the avatar and returning to regain his honor which is also to regain his fathers acceptance. to no longer be an exile from his home. all of his ideas about his own worth are wrapped up up in that. Iroh has the age/wisdom/maturity whatever to recognize that what zuko needs is some one who supports him even when he fails and, to know that his value as a person can come from within. "focus on your breathing" he teaches him to warm himself from inside so he wont freeze to death in season 1. Yes you could argue Iroh gets something out of this and is putting zuko into the position of his son who he lost. Iroh is using zuko as a surrogate for the son he failed before. Thats a valid point about Irohs actions for sure. I still think what iroh does for zuko is anchored in love and understanding from some one who actually has zuko's best interest in mind. Iroh never tries to stop zuko from joining team avatar as far as i can remember. He lets him go live his life even if it means symbolically losing his son for a second time. An abuser would have told him to stay or something.
>>153363133It is uniquely retarded isn't it? I don't know if I've seen a take that stupid for this series in a long time.
>>153362938Incredible take. Amaze amaze amaze
>>153362672It's one of those lines that exists more for the audience than the characters. Iroh could have not followed up with anything, but he continues for our sake so that we get a very quick bit of exposition on why he cares for Zuko so much.
>>153362938Never breed, anon.
>>153362672Listen. It wasn't fufilling a cockamamie obligation. Iroh wanted to say it. You never need a justification to say Israel is not a State.
>>153362890On the opposite end, you can have folks who say it all the time but thier actions say anything but. My dad remarried and I suddenly had two older step siblings who had everything they needed while I was left with the scraps. Whole time dad would say the occasional nice word or compliment, but the I knew it was all lip service at best since even to this day I'm an afterthought to that entire group of people. Always last in line, always last to get an invite to something happening the next day, only called when they need free labor. Its all smiles and "how are yous" but its dead, at it's core
>>153365868Very true, sucks that you had to go through that. But yeah just saying something isn't all it takes. the actions and the words have to reinforce each other
>>153363133>>153363715>>153365507>>153365804I'm sick of the Iroh glaze. He was a WAR CRIMINAL. He didn't take accountability until he was personally affected, the most selfish kind of character growth.
