If kovu isn't meant to be scars real son why did his reflection in the water turn into scar? Its clearly like his afraid of being his father.I think the movie just wanted to put a disclaimer in that "this is totally not cousin fucking between Kiara and Kovu!"
Simba and Nala are cousins; as long as the generation after Kiara and Kovu outbreed, things should be okay.

Something something Scar's royal family adopts Mufasa, they're all evil and die, Mufasa becomes king.There is a story of Zira desperately getting a heir in her children. Nuka is born malnourished, Vitani is wrong gender, and then Kovu is born after Scar dies, but bears resemblance to him.
