The fatigue really set in during the dinosaur king shit, and after a while the way the family/his ex felt like Hastings wasn't sure how seriously to take it. One of the low points in the tournament arc was Nyave flat out telling the reader what kind of hero Allison is supposed to be and White Chain being presented as ontologically wrong for doubting that position. That fan comic with Ra'akshi did a much better job of selling a flawed protagonist whose doomed struggle nonetheless has intrinsic merit, simply because he didn't have to be a designated good boy ALL the way through (no, Allison turning on Cio doesn't count, Incubus supercharged her ego and she resolved it by fusing said ego then showing none of that confidence subsequently)
