Do Millennials & Zoomers know how degenerate comics got or do they turn a blind eye to them?
I consider the whole era apocrypha that marred the characters forever.

As someone who read a lot of european and south american comics were it gets really bad in terms of degeneracy, the comic medium tolerates a lot

The main issue in modern comics as that all the fandom is nothing but porn
>>
>>153374469
I don't think anyone likes this era. I feel like the only 2000s comic anyone really likes is Ultimate Spider-man.
>>
>>153374534
A lot of the time the porn is better than the official material.

Marvel keeps pushing the 2000's as the default starting point for some reason.
>>
>>153374601
That era is strange. It was really hyped up at the time as being EXCITING and DIFFERENT but nobody cares about it. It was comics for people who didn't like comics and to nobody's surprise the non comic fans didn't stick with comics

Pre and post 2000s marvel have such a strange and clear divide. Like In even the dumbest shit in the 80s and 90s I can see the through line. I can see how we get there. 2000s marvel feels like there was some reboot I just missed.
>>
>>153375934
It was a reboot but all in name only.
>>
>>153376134
I mean people try to say marvel doesn't reboot like DC does but they sure are happy to throw decades out the window all the same.
>>
>>153376306
nothing was as bad as the reboot after reboot just to get rid of underwear only to go back to it
>>
>>153374469
They do, they consume a lot of older stories through piracy.
>>

No one really reads comics.

The anti New 52 circlejerk on reddit loves 2000s era comics

It's when the Quesada EIC regime started, most of Marvel's editors except Brevoort came in during this era or afterwards, most of the writers came in then or afterwards, so there's been a real drive to treat 2001 as a sort of Year Zero for Marvel. From the decades before then, the only things that are really treated as mattering are the origin stories and certain other big moments where someone died or turned heel.

It started as a new editorial regime marking it's territory and telling the audience to disregard the old and largely out of print stories, what's happening right now is what matters, but over time, the big 2000s stories and events are STILL treated as important things that still matter in a way that older storylines and even more recent ones just aren't. There aren't really many event stories from the 2010s or even so far in the 2020s where there's much about them that's still important and relevant a year or two later, while things like Civil War or House of M still keep getting brought up and treated like they were the most important things to ever happen.

Thank you for this succinct breakdown.
>>
>started reading comics by starting the then current Amazing Spider-Man run (Parker Industries shit)
>went back to the 2000s and read from there until I got up to date
>did the same again but starting from the 60s
Really makes you appreciate the old stuff

They really do not like Mark Millar

The sad part is, I question how much of this is actually beloved. Like you can look at the pre 2000s era and find countless iconic and beloved stories. The best I can say for the 2000s is that there stories that are infamous because their effects are still being recovered from. But do comic fans really still love Disassembled this many years later? Do people still think about Civil War with fondness? I know people like Annihilation so there's that but what else really is there.

People love Ultimate Spider-man, there are real shooters for that one no doubt. I'm trying to think of books I even liked. I liked X-Statix, New X-men, Astonishing X-men was alright. JMS Spider-man was good but I think that's mostly nostalgia talking. Waid's FF was good, the cosmic stories as you mention. Punisher Max, Black Panther by Priest I think was from this time. Spider-man's tangled web was a good series. I guess people liked Daredevil in this decade but I really barely even remember it, same for Alias.

I didn't follow DC closely and no one seems to talk about them from this time but Brubaker on Catwoman, New Frontier, Solo, Batman year 100, Morrison Batman, All Star Superman, all good to great. I think the worst thing for both companies seems to be the horrifically bad events that constantly happened. I can at least think of a lot of great non-DC/marvel comics.
