Who’s ready for whatever new episode comes out today?
>>
>>153376190
It's going to be the last episodes of Season 9. Next week they're going to play 2 episodes from season 10.

They aired a rerun of Holgram Jam, but did air the new Sick as a Dad episode. Which were both different episodes to the rerun marked as new on my listings guide.

It’s getting ridiculous.

Any Loudfriends going to try for Ms. /co/ this year?

I always try for Lana.

You know, you guys misled me, man, or maybe I just heard it wrong. I was led to believe Hologram Jam sucked. I was really braced for that and it turned out to be a pretty fun episode. And I know I said this last time, but this time I'm saying it again, and without a shadow of a doubt: production season 8 (twenty six half hours) is, without a doubt, the best season since season 4 (with the Casagrandes eps cut out). Now I'm going to go on, even more than usual this time, because I am feeling something of a strong opinion here and I want to try and express it clearly.

To be honest I really don't know where to begin or how to start talking about it in a way that's parseable to the average viewer and not a turbo-hardcore Loudfag like me, but though I don't want to oversell it, I feel the overall direction of the show has been really nicely refocused. After all those big, I don't know what to call them, creative adventurism or digressions in seasons 5 and 6, which were not bad in a vacuum but nowhere near as good as 1-4, plus which had some unusually poor episodes and the philosophy of the show became less clear compared to how it was previously, but season 7 and especially season 8 has really brought it back, in my opinion as someone that's been watching The Loud House on TV since s1e1 or at least s1e5, to something much closer to what is I feel the original and best concept for the series. They've cut back so much on supernatural stories for instance, or stuff where that's the focus. I mean, do you remember the (what will definitely be a halloween special) episode with Lucy and the lake cabin? That would have been so easy for them to shove real ghosts in there to give Lucy advice on her novel or whatever, some hacky stuff, but they didn't, they showed restraint and kept it to her imagination. Great. *Great*. I love when the writers demonstrate discipline like that, and they've been demonstrating it a lot this season.

Also, less friends episodes and more sisters and family episodes generally, I notice. Like I said, the philosophy of the show feels so much closer to what I think is the best style and vision for TLH. I cannot say enough about that. I really, truly and sincerely hope that production season 9 is this good and constructed this same way. Just this whole reorientation of how the show's conceived means episodes are so much more consistent and good. I don't know who to thank, I really don't. I was ready to start cursing when I saw Kevin Sullivan's name on Sick As A Dad and thought to myself "this must have been the bad episode they were talking about" but that one was good too. Like I said, I don't know who deserves the credit for this new (old?) approach to everything, but I'm sincerely thankful. And yeah, at this point, and especially if s9 is good too, I'm ready to call it a renaissance. These episodes are doing it for me. Almost every premiere ends up being a real pleasure to watch. I don't know what to say about it. I'm really thrilled.

To give another example of what I mean, and this doesn't make it good or bad but it does show where the sensibilities of the show are at right now: look how much Lincoln talked to the viewer in Hologram Jam. That was a real blast from the past to have such a long conversation with the audience. I feel he rarely did that in 5 and 6 but the first four had plenty of that. Again, I'm not saying that's an innately good thing, but it seems to me like they're going back and analyzing the classic seasons to see what works and mining from that, which is excellent if you ask me. As for the episode itself, again, very oldschool Lincoln vs his family scenario, a premise I especially enjoy.
>>
>>153379093
I know some are very hardcore about wanting TLH to be grounded at all costs, and might bristle at the use of holograms. While I tend to agree, in this case I think that was just a narrative conceit and one that I personally find way more, I don't know, I guess 'grounded' than Lincoln and Clyde having to siege an evil lair to save Flip for instance, despite the fact that one didn't use supertech. This was more like DeeDee getting a piece of tech off Dexter, that kind of idea, and, not to run apologia or say that I want TLH to turn into Dexter's Lab (although that show is awesome), but I could definitely dig it for an episode, especially since the overall approach was really funny and even the somewhat meta parts made me laugh. I normally don't like that sort of stuff, but it really felt like Lincoln's Greatest Hits. It's essentially a how Lincoln survives in the Loud house plot. Everyone talking shit to him, not going overboard about it ofc, but still suspecting him of running some action. That's definitely season 1 type stuff that his history of scheming makes the people around him suspicious of him naturally, of what he's up to. That stuff works on me. When the mom and dad's suspicions are proven correct and they're high fiving each other as they ground him because their instincts were right after all, it made me laugh, what can I say. I think the comedy even has gotten sharper since this season has got me to laugh out loud in back to back premieres. I'm not the kind of guy that demands laughs every second or every line to be a joke either, quite the opposite in fact, I think atmosphere and good feeling is king in a slice of life show and the laughs must be in service of that rather than other way around, but the comedy seems sharper to me without coming at the expense of the cast's characterization which is almost always the case when that happens. It's fundamentally well conceived imo, I don't know how else to say it but the jokes feel funnier lately.

Alright, let me talk about each episode specifically instead of just being so pleased that the show's been on a hotstreak. Let's go back to Hologram. Again, a classic Linc vs family plot, but I love the design of the episode and how much of it was about Lincoln and his sisters. They didn't make it ABOUT their relationship per se, but we got a lot of moments, I guess you'd call them fanservice if you were of a mind to, where we got to see casual displays of what their relationship is like. I majorly, majorly dig that. Just the casual Loud House life, you know, getting grounded by mom or hassled by dad, having an easy conversation with Lisa like a brother and sister would. The slice of life stuff. Luan expecting him to show to her comedy thing- this feels like a real family and I am the ultimate sucker for that style of doing it. Him accidentally heckling Lynn while she's at bat. I liked a lot of these scenes.

Oh, and even more than that, I'd also like to mention as an aside, I LOVE that they're making such a powerful push to, I guess, reinstate Lori in the Loud House. Sure, she technically lives next door now, and I expected to hate that as a shitty compromise, but it's really uhh...You know? She's there all the time, they don't even have to have a character point out 'oh, Lori's here today', she can just be there and we expect her to be as a given, and I think that's awesome. It's like I mentioned before, it's a restoration of the show's original one boy ten girls loud house concept. Fucking great. In fact, they go even further, by having Lori say stuff like "I'm literally never here!" when she's talking about her efficiency at Grouse's.
>>
File: luan monke 3.jpg (274 KB, 1920x1080)

>>153379162
As I've mentioned before, rather than moving out it feels more like they annexed a portion of Grouse's house, the part facing them, and her presence feels so natural and even like something you can totally take for granted, like before. I honestly never thought it could be anything more than a compromise but they've really made it work and I'm speaking as a big Lorifag here, I truly feel like she's back home and it's hard to overstate how pleased that makes me. It makes everything work better, the whole show feels better now, like we're back to where we should have been. It's such a happiness.

Anyway, to sum up, a pretty good one. I really enjoyed my time with it. Reminded me a little bit of that episode where Lincoln gets those noiseblocking headphones to tune out his sisters. His parents got a little more heavily featured compared to that, and they're definitely tier 2 characters to me compared to the sibs, but overall we got a fun Lincoln adventure that mostly took place at home and that's something I enjoy. All the sibs crowding around for Luan's comedy show as Luan pokes her little brother in the cheek to make sure it's really him this time was a great ending, very cute and sweet. I love the way Luan's been characterized this season, by the way. They cut back on the really crazy Hannibal Lecter stuff to show her as the cute dork part of the family she is and that is really something I appreciate. I feel like when she's portrayed as this supervillain caliber character it almost separates her from the rest of the family and makes her feel less a part of them, but subtly bringing her back down to earth like this or in her Luan vs Luna episode or the Grouse episode where they really got her to panic is a really great approach to/portrayal of the character.

Now, the dad episode. For me, if you'll recall the father's day episode where the kids are all trying to figure out what to get Lynn Sr., I think that is one of the best non-Savino episodes in the entire series thus far, and this reminded me a lot of that as far as how it was constructed and played out. It's a family plot this time, all the siblings vs the parents or a situation I guess. Another thing I'm a sucker for is all the siblings cooperating vs something else. That is a major treat in my mind. Keep in mind, I'm the sort of person who's favorite Tom and Jerry episodes were the ones where the two teamed up against someone else, so maybe I'm just biased since it's so to my tastes. Still, even with that bias aside, these sibling episodes are really good. This was like an excuse for jokes to happen at the kids' expense and I really enjoyed it, sometimes they give Hell and sometimes, on rarer occasions, they have to take it, to balance things out, and this was one of those. Oh yeah, and once again: Lori, Lori, Lori. I could do a backflip just to mention it. Do you see what I mean with what I said earlier? She's soooo back and it makes me so happy.

Anyway, a pretty funny episode that gave all the sisters something, a joke; Luna only having to play in major notes because minor notes make Lynn Sr. depressed, or Lincoln having to skip the exciting parts of his comics so as to not agitate him, or Luan having to tone down her act, Lori at the beginning trying to orchestrate a great escape for all of them before getting halted by her mom, and then she halts Lola's escape, and Lola having to take her medicine for being the last one out, just gooood family type comedy stuff, the characters gave you the whole episode, and that, to me, is the essential, central thing, what you really, really want most of all.
>>
>>153379220
Now, there was *one* part of it that was a little more Mr. Magoo, where Lynn Sr. steps out and he's conked out on cold medicine or whatever and walks safely through a ton of major danger. That part was less interesting to me, but I understood the intent and what it was an homage too, and the sequence wasn't bad as far as execution. It reminded me of Lincoln having to rescue his mom's manuscript running through a construction site in that one episode. Anyway, tons of pretty good jokes, appropriately minimal use of Todd and even he got something of a good joke where his robotic delivery actually made it better ('let's never speak of it a-gain'). Finally, it ends with something touching that gives the episode some heart, and I knew it was coming up from the start, because I was asking the same thing, 'what about all the times he's taken care of you guys', and that got addressed in a very satisfying way that closed the circle on the whole plot in a very good fashion. I found the whole thing to be sweet and funny and it gave us a lot of Loud sibling comedy on top of that. A very good outing.

So yeah, there's my big effusive feature-length proclamation of satisfaction for these two episodes and the season as a whole, which I told you was coming. Sorry for all the gushing but I'm really given to doing that when this show makes me happy and it's really made me happy lately. I hope you anons enjoyed these eps as much as I did.

Finally, maybe you'll agree, I think we've now seen every s8 half hour but one, so at this point I'm comfortable saying it because even if the last half hour is bad it can't undo the rest: congratulations to the creative team on this season. Really, good job. Well done. To be able to steer a giant megafranchise like this into a better direction after some confusion is a pretty terrific achievement and they should be proud of themselves for it, and as a fan, I'm grateful that my favorite show is being handled with such care by the people working on it and it seems like they're legit working hard and we're getting something that lives up to the Loud House name. That's pretty amazing luck. Not many long running cartoons can claim they experienced a renaissance in later seasons, I feel fortunate to get to say we have, or at least I think so. I've been really, really pleased with season 8 overall. I can recommend it almost without qualifiers, and that's something I rarely get to do, at least about anything created recently. But this is a good one, straight up. I don't know, maybe they felt pressure from Wylde Pak to up their game since that show is so great, but it's resulted in a creative philosophy that I think has been really to the show's benefit. It goes to show cartoons don't just have to decay, decay, decay, it IS possible to firm up even deep into a run if the people involved are pros and really work sincerely to do their best. Some shows make it seem almost impossible but you really can rediscover what works and create more of it in animation. Again, I can only express my appreciation as a viewer and someone that really loves this cartoon and enjoys good quality stuff. Thank you to anyone that works hard at their job and sincerely does their best. I love when stuff is good.

Honestly, I thought Lincoln was kind of an asshole in “Hologram Jam”.
>>
>>153379550
Agreed. The show should live to be vindicated.
>>
>>153380900
I wouldn't go so far as to call him an asshole. Trying to get out of boring and tedious but necessary chores your parents make you do is just the kid life. But he was definitely careless. Maybe even a dummy, especially that part where he gets his telephone wet after setting it next to the tub. Nevertheless, he is cute.
>>
>>153381635
>>153380900
The episode with the laundry did it the idea better, where Lincoln didn't want to his chore because he had something to do better, but there he learned the lesson on his own (one of things I like about seasons 5-7) and got it done without the input of his sisters and parents finding out.
>>
>>153381687
Is that the one where everybody went on strike on their assigned chore and the house got fucked up? That was a funny one but that was a first three seasons episode not 5-7.
>>
>>153381687
Wait, I think you're talking about the other episode where he goes with Clyde to Dairyland. I know which one you mean. Actually I remember thinking that episode was good and had really only one thing going against it, which was that Lincoln had a really new VA at the time and his voice was too high, which bothered me. Apart from that it was a good one, one of that season's better episodes as I recall.

I don’t know, it’s just…holograms? How lazy is he? And frankly, I still think Lisa is too OP.

River is a step up at least from the prior few but I would rather they just not bother anymore than keep changing it. I don't enjoy the way people take that as a character trait sometimes now and it gets worse with each one.
