You can tell Imagi had a lot of fun writing, storyboarding and animating this movie
>When I joined Imagi back in 2004, the head of the studio, Francis Kao (who founded Imagi Studios in 2000) noticed that I had ‘Turtles’ in my resume,” Gray told me. When Gray was heading production for Hong Kong based Golden Harvest in the early 1990’s he had been the architect of the original “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” film franchise that wound up grossing over $256 million domestically. “So he said, ‘What do you think about doing ‘Turtles’ in CG?’ My first reaction was, ‘That’s an interesting thing. Yeah, why not?’. “That kind of started the wheels turning. Why not? We could do this film for a budget that would be relatively inexpensive. If we had to do it live action, I dare say it would probably be close to in the hundreds of millions of dollars. So from our studio point of view, we were a young studio, we were looking for our first major picture, we thought, ‘Yeah, let’s make this film in the $30-$35 million range.’ It actually came in at $35 million”
It had a pretty decent look. Nothing can compare to the original 1990 movie though.
>"We are a Hong Kong company, but we want to be Pixar,” said Imagi prexy-CEO Thomas Gray. “We have about 450 animators on staff in Hong Kong and use all the same Renderman and Maya software. This means we can produce Pixar-quality movies for a fraction of the price of what we’d do in the US. Our plan is to expand that to 700 animators and deliver a completed movie every 18 months"
>>153379260you don't know the half of it. read the screenplay sometime, it's fucking incredible.>>153379371indeed. Laird wanted to do a followup to it around 2010, with mature themes and mostly practical suits but with CGI eye blinks and such.... but could not get ANY studio to greenlight that project, so he fell into despair and sold the franchise to the devilI mean the devilI mean SatanI mean- maybe I can say Paramount. Yeah okay I can. He sold it to Parademons. Oh fucking hell.
