>they made a cartoon of Napoleon Dynamite ten years after the movie with all the OG cast brought back for the voices…was it good?
nothey went all in on the gross out humor without any of the down to earth charm that was in the movie
>>153380219it was... somehow fucking great. I don't understand it. They knew EXACTLY how much zanier than the live action movie to make it (11%), and just how to expand that world.
>>153380219i loved the movie for how "still and boring" it was. the cartoon completely destroyed that aspect of it.
>>153380322Damn. Is the /co/ntrarianism drug really that good?
>>153380219it was okay
>>153380346>i loved the movie for how "still and boring" it wasas a kid, this was the first time i watched a movie and thought "but nothing happened? where is the resolution, the emotional arcs? why end there and why this sequence of events? why make this? how was i supposed to feel about it?"i hadn't realized how much of the "rules" of a narrative i had absorbed subconsciously, was probably judging it based on that. but then all the kids around me just thought all the things that happened in it were hilarious, it was quoted heavily until i was sick of it, like it was just a collection of weird funny moments to become referenceshaven't seen it since, i don't think i'm capable of giving it an honest re-watch because of that history
>>153381275Sounds like you're autistic or a sociopath

>>153380219I only remember the joke where he burps, coughs, sneezes, etc. all at the same time and it causes like a huge explosion that rockets him into the air.
>>153380219It was good. Not great, but not bad either. I kind of liked it. It's respects the source material & had the spirit of similar to the movie. The movie on the other hand is a guilty pleasure.>>153381275It's a coming of age film. It's about a high school nerdy kid finding his love interest
>>153380278>without any of the down to earth charm that was in the movieMassive mis-step. The weird yet mundane atmosphere of the film was why it worked. Adding giant robots and shit ruins it completly. It's basically just more early bad-seasons Simpsons.
>>153381541>immigration propaganda
>>153381541Pedro was not a good person. To be fair to Summer, he shouldn't have lied about her & depicted her as a monster in the school campaign. You don't do that in class elections. Pedro really wanted Summer, but Summer was already Don's girlfriend. Even Napoleon got rejected by Summer & handled it better than Pedro. Pedro couldn't take the hint, went full retard, then lose the class election.
>>153381608Why is the movie a guilty pleasure? It was intentionally made to be an unconventional comedy set in some timeless Midwest area, full of weirdos and loser characters.>>153381275Napoleon does have an arc. Most of the characters do. He starts off an alone, bullied loser. And ends up gaining a best freeing, a romantic interest, and publicly support this friend in the talent part of the election even though obviously it was extremely difficult for him to do due to embarassmentl the majoirity of thr school applauds it too
>>153381608>It's a coming of age film. It's about a high school nerdy kid finding his love interestThat makes sense based on what I remember from one watch 20+ years ago. I think my child-brain got flumoxxed by all the weird quirky goings-ons. I didn't know what purpose a ton of things served in the movie. And those were the parts most drilled into my head by the in-person memeing.
>>153380219i loved it
>>153381850Yeah, I could tell that was the 'arc'. I think it seemed to me like he just stumbled into things like friends and popularity (the scene I linked where he's like "I guess we're friends now" is pretty characteristic). Like, just sharing scenes together is what did most of it, I couldn't read a lot of what was going on with some of the characters because of their bizarre mannerisms. Was he even being brave putting himself out there dancing, or just lacked social awareness? Did he run away embarrassed or just because he's a spaz like that?Honestly, I'm just going to shut up about the movie because my childhood impression of it is not enough to be trying to examine its merits, sorry.
>>153381935I think you may be autistic. This is not intended as an insult.
>>153381955Probably am, but I do fine in real-life social environments, and don't generally get thrown off by fictional ones. I was, like, 12 at the time though so might have been more 'tistic.
>>153380219I only saw the bed race episode where they steal a lead blanket from a hospital when it premiered
>>153380219no
>>153380346I always have that problem with cartoon adaptations of live action stuff. I've stayed away from Corner Gas: The Animated Series for a similar reason because they said they could do "types of jokes that wouldn't worrk in live action" when the humor didn't come from cartoonish zaniness.
No.
