You essentially go through this narrative of Claire and Marten realizing their flaws only to have them wholeheartedly embrace them as ways of life. Claire winds up an obsessive workaholic while Marten uproots his life over a woman for a third time in a couple of years. I think the problem here is that while you can point out that Claire's job and personality are in constant danger of starting a destructive feedback loop, Cubetown is the first time Marten has shown any sort of self-drive and ambition - albeit minuscule - to improve himself. Dude recognized an economic opportunity and started a business; even if his business sucks and he's kinda terrible at it that's a lot motivation required plus feeling a need for him to contribute something worthwhile with his time.
