One what, a midget?

I guess it HAS been a while since Pintsize twinkified.
>>
>>153396690
I mean, in terms of what makes sense, I suppose he would default to bottoming with Dr. Loli since he's been with the transbrarian for so long, even if Dr. Loli doesn't have a dick (which isn't confirmed yet).

>>
>>153394302
>>153394619

How would Jeph write Marten and Claire's break-up
>>
>>153400255
Same way he wrote Tai and Dora's wedding, offscreen during a timeskip. Have Dr. Loli straddling Marten and saying she's glad Claire broke up with him because it meant the coast was clear, and then continue on with this same level of banter for the next however many strips. Don't allude to why, don't dig into it, Claire is still in the background now and again, but just let it be. As I've said in other threads, in many ways Marten hanging out with Liz, Moray, Emily, and tiddycop is already golden. We have what we want. What we're looking for is certainty we can keep it, but that certainty isn't the actual answer and seeking it risks it all.
>>
>>153400255
If he gives a shit?
>Claire's autistic fixation on her 'work' leads her to continue to obsess more and more on her zany adult daycare job that has no meaning at the expense of her friendship
>Arc depicting how an increasingly stranded Marten spends more and more time with Gremlin, Emily, and Moray because they don't treat him like a houseplant that only gets watered when Claire can be bothered to remember him
>Little flashback series B plot about how Claire has always been bad at prioritizing the people she cares about and consistently drives people away accidentally when she obsesses over something
>Parallel heart to hearts, one where Emily helps Marten realize that he's basically uprooted his entire life just to be an accessory to Claire and that he's allowed to be disgruntled / unfulfilled
>Another where Clinton visits for some robotics conference and has a come to Jesus with Claire that she's going to fumble the only guy who's ever given her the time of day
>Claire races home to fix things with Marten, but when she does Marten has already decided to break up with her (for once he actually DOES A THING)
>Marten is stuck on Cubetown due to wacky future customs or whatever, he and gremlin finally have a boiling point for their chemistry
>Claire copes by rejecting any and all accountability (as she has in the past) and just quadruples down on her job as chief babysitter, starts spiraling into a complete workaholic
>Marten and Goblin eventually both decide to go back to Northampton in hopes of living lives that don't feel like rolling heavy rocks up hill
OPTIONAL
>reveal in a one off comic to the audience that the Director callously manipulated events to split Marten and Claire so that she could be a more efficient bean counter, have Moray learn this and become morally conflicted for the first time in her life

That's what I'd do, at least.
>>
>>153394619
Do (you) ever compliment, comfort, tease, or tell a joke to anyone that you don't intend to fuck later?

If you had been the male in this comic strip, would you have said to the girl "yeah, too bad about your stagnant career. Now run along, I have to close up the shop and go play video games at home"?
>>
>>153400525
NTA, but context matters.
Marten has consistently shown not only more chemistry with the gremlin than with Claire, but acts more like his own character around her. In this case it's almost certainly due to Jorph handling M&C's relationship with such terrified kid gloves that it accidentally neuters the chemistry they once had, but in a conventional story it would 100% foreshadow possible romance and something resembling conflict down the road.
>>
>>153400525
If it was a one of, your comment would be relevant. But the teasing has been real for quite a long time now (see when Marteen and Liz got drunk together)
>>
>>153397169
I hate that transwoman/man has been normalized.

>>
>>153396713

>>
>>153397169
Dr Loli introduces Marten to topping during anal. Marten later asks to do this with Claire. Hilarity ensues as Claire tries to work out who let Marten have a shred of manhood.
>>
>>153400255
the cowards way is they open the relationship and it becomes a trouple. iirc Marten was with someone who was like that before
>>
>>153402125
>Claire is Liz's stern shemale mommydom
>Marten is Liz's gentle daddydom
>Liz is Marten and Claire's bratty babysub
It may be the coward's way, but I'd still fap to it.

>>
>>153400524
That sounds deeply unsatisfying on a reader level. You essentially go through this narrative of Claire and Marten realizing their flaws only to have them wholeheartedly embrace them as ways of life. Claire winds up an obsessive workaholic while Marten uproots his life over a woman for a third time in a couple of years.

I think the problem here is that while you can point out that Claire's job and personality are in constant danger of starting a destructive feedback loop, Cubetown is the first time Marten has shown any sort of self-drive and ambition - albeit minuscule - to improve himself. Dude recognized an economic opportunity and started a business; even if his business sucks and he's kinda terrible at it that's a lot motivation required plus feeling a need for him to contribute something worthwhile with his time.
>>
>>153408563
They're incompatible people. Marten's a layabout who goes with the flow and is a bit of a doormat, but has enough luck and enough charisma to land on his feet most of the time. Claire's a neurotic timebomb whose need for control pecks at anyone within reach until they either break or cut her off. Marten's flaw isn't that his ambitions top out at spending time with his friends and plucking at a guitar now and again, his flaw is trying to date someone who isn't happy with that kind of life. Them breaking up is good for both of them because Marten is being taken for granted and Claire is avoiding introspection by spending more and more time working. That doesn't improve without a come to jesus moment.
>>
>>153409218
Setting aside the argument that they're the exact kind of people who need to be interact with each other to pressure themselves into fixing their problems, the issue I have is that the proposed scenario doesn't improve them. All that happens is Claire throws herself into work and Marten ditches his new home and business to return to his status quo.
>>
>>153410206
I need you to understand that these are not people, they are characters. I do not want less of Claire in the comic because the workload is unhealthy or because her mental health has crippled her ability to form close relationships, I want less of her in the comic because she is a comic character and the comic is boring when she is in it, because she is boring. Marten awkwardly flirting with a rotating cast of cute girls in a coffeeshop is the low-stakes soap opera shit I'm here for because it's been the primary dish on offer for 20 years.
>>
>>153410347
Of course they're not people, but your proposal still sucks. "What if these characters recognize their flaws, then immediately double down on them" isn't an engaging read unless you're intentionally doing tragedy, it's just frustrating. If all you want is a bland MC awkwardly flirting with a bunch of one-note personality chicks why bother with the pretense of a story line in the first place? Reboot the comic.
>>
>>153410206
Matter of personal taste of course but the reason I suggested that it is because that sort of realistic fallout is one of the two things this comic is good at, the other being Marten's slice of life bullshit with his buddies as this anon >>153410347
points out.
This whole thing is a situation which precludes a happy / satisfying resolution - which happens IRL all the time - and the best way to get to a satisfying arc is by restoring the characters' solvency so they can have a new one without this entertainment-vacuum of a relationship being front and center.
Long term this would empower Marten to live in the 'real world' of Northampton and have a shot at character growth rather than running a fake coffee shop on a fake island totally surrounded by fake people and a girlfriend who actively neglects and diminishes him.
Meanwhile Claire could actually have an arc about overcoming a challenge (her workaholism and neuroticism) and coming out the other side a better person.
As things are Marten and Claire are basically living in a shallow simulation world without stakes or any chance to grow, all the while stuck in a relationship that Jorph refuses to allow to have any meaningful conflict or growth. This, in point of fact, is boring as shit. And will remain boring as shit until something changes.
"Ha ha ok" forever.
>>
>>153410491
For the record it's my proposal, not that anons. We just want the same thing for different reasons.
My point is that tragedy sometimes is necessary in a comic for there to be any stakes or character growth, which in QC is the only thing there is besides funny banter, vibes, and flirting.

It could be interesting to see the transition from modern life to Star Trek-level society where people are genuinely motivated by altruism and curiosity. But that would require periodically adjusting the status quo by making plot points appear in an intentional order.

engineering is a science
>>
>>153413105
The second panel could be a particle physics experiment or an astrophysics model hologram.
The fourth panel could be a psychology study related to how robots react when their butts are polished.
But I can't think of a scientific excuse for the first panel.
>>
>>153413105
Cubetown definitely has an applied sciences / engineering flavor from all we've seen.
>>
>>153413354
It's a generalization but engineers don't usually discover new things, rather they apply and optimize what's already known.

I see it more that touching Moray's pompadour is one of the perks of being on the island

>>153413105

>Do (you) ever compliment, comfort, tease, or tell a joke to anyone that you don't intend to fuck later?
No, because I'm an unapologetically narcissistic sociopath like most people on 4chan, I only ever interact with other people when I want something from them, and once I get what I want I just toss them aside like an empty soda can.
>>
>>153413444
I'll accept the 4th panel, I didn't really think about the robot with the clipboard, but trying things out and writing down the results is definitely science. Could be experiments to optimize ass polish or something.

2nd panel though, as you say, that looks like a demonstration of some finding; another result of science, like the 1st panel, rather than science being done.
>>
I have only ever seen this as "Marten unwittingly practices at being a parent." Like yeah it's bullshit that he's too scared to actually confront Martin and Claire's cratered relationship but I don't see anything else going on

>>153412780
I think someone in these threads once mentioned Cubetown at least lets Jeph stretch his creative muscles more, and I guess I can see it a little. At least "slice of life in wacky sci-fi town" gives us something new compared to "slice of life in gay Canadian town and I guess robots are there sometimes".
