Discussion of the original comic, and recommendations for series similar to it (and/or X-Files)https://readcomiconline.li/Comic/The-Men-in-Black
>>153414498Clearly the movie took its inspiration more from issue #2 than anything else in this comic.
>>153414992yeah, and?
>>153414498Sony keeps trying to revive the series. If you ask me the best way to go about that would be a totally different tonal approach more reminiscent of the original comic. You cant go back to the Will Smith stuff because we already completed that storyline and Smith has sort of nuked his career in recent years too. Not to mention how tired people are of the next generation trope. I keep thinking it'd be neat if we got a new MIB flick that was alot like True Detective, but with fucked up cryptid shit.
>>153414992Why do you think that is? What's wrong with Issue No. 1?
>>153416644nta, but it's pretty conventional with no paranormal elements.
>>153415493>aliens, Marty>they see time as a flat circle
>>153415493I think the problem is that we've gone from the idea that Men in Black are a crazy, fringe idea that really kooks believe in, to Men In Black as a thing that a big percentage of people in America think are actually real and a threat, and the people who aren't that sizable percentage are tired as fuck of those people constantly talking about. Secret government conspiracy is kind of a dry well right now.

>>153419858Oh, and to a small extent Ben 10.
>>153419542Based>>153419594Not wrong. It'd still make for decent media in the right hands though. Really what has landed with general audiences? Seems like everything thst does gets purposefully gimped out of spite.
>>153419858>>153419971
>>153420080>>153419542>>153415493>True Detectiveyeah, that would be unfathomably based. I love the 1st movie and somewhat enjoy the comedic tone of the rest. but a dryer humor and darker tone, and better cinematography & tighter lore than X-Files would be kino.
>>153414498Might read it someday.
>>153421275Why do "someday" what you can do today?
>>153416644I think Sony decided to make the movies all about aliens since they already had Ghostbusters for ghosts, and were possibly planning Hellboy for anything else paranormal.
>>153421275It's like 6 issues.
>>153421842>>153422169I have other comics to read. I'm in the middle of about 20 different ones.
>>153423513skill issue
>>153414498MIB would be a good adversary organization to a series focusing on something like Xenonauts 2, where they dont realize they are the bad guy
>>153424003
>>153415493They simply need good writers.
>>153414498They got that shit on !!
>>153421900That seems fair. A rare case where I side with Hollywood for taking creative liberties with an adapted work.
Just remembered another cartoon, Psi Cops. It's an off the wall parody of X-files. For some inane reason though there seems to be only a handful of episodes available since it's original AS run.
>>153424003>where they dont realize they are the bad guyAgent K is an unrepentant asshole in the comics
>>153419594They look less like heroes lately for infiltrating unstable elements into normal society and giving it dementia every time it starts defending itself.
>>153414498waou cool gun
