>It doesn't matter
>>153419912The only example of a based nihilistic character in all of fiction, because he actually put his money where his mouth is.
>>153419912>nunnadis matters
>>153419912>everytime you decide to not randomly start bashing your head against the wall until you die there is some version out there that does>one day you might randomly decide to pull into on coming traffic just because another version of you decided not toowoah
The only problem with his thinking was the whole idea of an Earth Prime.Under his own logic, Earth Prime is impossible for any living being to exist in or reach since their own decisions would cause them to instantly split off from the Prime verse.
I like to think Owlman and his plan to destroy every alternate reality is a subtle criticism of Multiverse slop that has become far too prevalent in super hero media nowadays. Why should I give a shit about a story about Superman dying when he's going to still be alive in dozens of other different realities that DC can pull from? Nothing that happens in capeshit matters because there aren't any real consequences and death doesn't matter.
>>153420113>Why should I give a shit about a story about Superman dying when he's going to still be alive in dozens of other different realitiesso if there was another you in another you universe you wouldn't care if you lived or died, what a retarded ass way of thinking
>>153420231>so if there was another you in another you universe you wouldn't care if you lived or diedYeah, if I was watching a show about my life why would care what happens if my character could just be brought back from any event in another show?
>>153419953No, it's just the only one you've ever heard of.
>>153420113I don't think that was the intention but it definitely works if you view it that way
>>153420113It's moreso that a lot of media had been tackling multiverse and time travel concepts from this angle, but very few tackled it from the more philosophical angle that permeated the actual debate. Because both "infinite multiverse" and "fixed timeline" both raised extremely uncomfortable questions about free will and meaning. When Grant Morrison introduced the whole "hypertime" concept to DC, he did so pretty blind to the part where the concept would have been the whole debate taken to the most absolute extreme nihilistic conclusion.Up until this point, multiverse stories were always used to explore how differently things could have gone, how much one decision or moment could change so many things. But when you got to the whole "infinite" concept, it made every universe just look like a series of conditions prone to constant butterfly effects. Situations where people made the exact same choices but everything happened totally differently because someone else's brakes failed and killed a figure who had an unspoken significance. This just beat Rick and Morty to the punch on something that was already there but wasn't yet really explored in a lot of sci-fi.
So what about the world where reddit became the edgy place where you can say nigger, and 4chan was the normie den?
>>153419953You're only aware of one small branch of nihilism, and thinks that it's the only thing.Caterine Vauban from I Heat Huckabees is way better.
>>153419978
>>153419912>nothing truly matters>except this one big plot i have to wipe out all of existence because it's the only choice that actually matters because reasons
>>153420622Because it would not be the same soul
>>153419953Ackshually, nihilism is about self-determining worth. In this case Owlman says nothing matters because that's what he has determined. He is a nihilist because he determined that value. But in this situation Batman could also be a nihilist. If Batman was acting because he himself was determining the value of life on Earth throughout the multiverse was valuable, rather than considering it valuable because of any societal concept of life having value or attributing value according to belief in some higher power then Batman was also acting according to a nihilistic ideology. The difference being that he would be acting according to the belief there was no objective innate determination of value in the universe, he was just saying that life was valuable because he chose it to be.
>>153423025He was always wrong, because the weird thing is that in an Infinite Multiverse, if it was possible for someone to destroy it all, then someone would have already done it.That nobody has done it already is proof that it is impossible to accomplish.
>you're that version of yourself that didn't confess his feelings to his childhood oneitis.damnit.
>>153423150>"You're right about one thing: We both looked into the abyss. But when it looked back at us...you blinked."Probably one of the most based lines in fiction, ngl
>>153420086Most multiverse stories forget that existence claims in multiverse theory are supposed to be indexical, meaning that no universe is the one correct or prime universe.
>>153423733The entire Owlman vs Batman scene had multiple lines that just hit hard
Multiverse is impossible. There's only 1 way things could have gone.
>>153424137>You're insane.>It doesnt matter. There are alternate versions of me that you would find quite charming
>>153424229>No. Not good. Never good. After all, I'm only human.
>>153423262Yep infinite multiverse as a concept is stupid and writers have to bend over backwards to not have it ruin their stories leading to some kind of illogical point (or many) somewhere in it in order to square the circle.
>>153424223>There's only 1 way things could have goneyeah there's no universe where you're not constantly sucking cocks
I hate the multiverse concept because I already find it retarded how ONE villain could be a threat when they are like millions of protagonists and villains in the same universe that may be even more powerful and stronger with differents ongoing plans/schemes.
>>153424296vintage 4chan remark my fren
>>153424530Their universe's Batman stopped them.>What about the universes without Batman?Batman stopped those too.
>>153419912Sure it does, FAG.
I love the multiverse concept, but it's largely not utilized well. Leave it to the Brits, they're better at it.
The fact this wasn't the last line for Owlman in the crisis movie irks me
The existence of Owl Man implies the existence of a Court of Bats.
>>153429117Oh shit.
>>153423150Nihilism is just like Atheist; an excuse used by brainlets to be negative assholes about everything.
If there are an infinite number of universes couldn't there be a universe where no other universes exist?
>>153429117Oooh
>>153429117We don't really need a Council of Reeds for Batman.
>>153430717...no, I think.I guess there could be a Multiverse that contains no universes...but then we get into all that bullshit about the idea of there being multiple Multiverses.
