Hanna Barbera cartoons are such a waste of airtime
>>
nah you are
>>
youre the waste
>>
>>153443666
It's sadly true. There's a reason only Scooby-Doo and to a lesser extent The Flintstones managed to stand the test of time (and even the Flintstones is slowly being forgotten). Nobody gives a shit about HB cartoons anymore, they aged horribly, with terrible animation and unfunny humor.
Also, including Tom and Jerry with the HB cast is an insult to Tom and Jerry, they don't deserve to be associated with those losers.

No one asked you, Shaytan.
>>
>>153445454
Yeah iirc they’re just general Warner bros stuff, and if anything? Put em with Looney Tunes.
Also I think wacky races seemed cool but really fell flat on its ass, don’t remind me of that Dick spinoff
>>
>>153446530
Why not they made the cartoon
>>
>>153443666
They were a necessary evil. Without them, TV animation as we know it today wouldn't exist, for better or worse.
>>
>>153443666
They were making animation for TV during the 60s, 70s & 80's and so they had to use a lot of shortcuts to get it done and they succeeded.
Scooby Doo will outlive us all.

T & J was created by Hanna Barbera.
They don't fit with Looney Tunes
>>

>>
>>153445454
>Also, including Tom and Jerry with the HB cast is an insult to Tom and Jerry
Why? They were created by the same people. The only reason HB even exists is because MGM fired them from making Tom and Jerry cartoons.
>>
>>153443666
Any Hanna Barbera cartoon that wasn't Scooby, The Flintstones, The Jetsons and Tom and Jerry were at there most interesting in crossover specials.
>>
>>153443666
But enough about dtva
>>
>>153448463
The funny animal guys were better as standalone characters than being in anything good
>>
>>153447781
Only a handful of these are really worth the effort though, and some of the late 80's-90's stuff might as well be a different studio.
>>
>>153447766
Eeeh Idk also I want an excuse for Sylvester and Tom to work together.

fuck year captain caveman
jonny quest is extremely important too (to me and probably most of the board) for giving us v bros, the greatest adult cartoon ever produced
>>153449515
true

I've never seen Birdman And The Galaxy Trio or Moby Dick And Mighty Mightor. How do those hold up compared to Spaceghost and The Herculoids?
>>
>>153449719
Birdman was solar-powered Hawkman. Only watched Galaxy Trio a few times but remembered Meteor Man had the same VA as Lurch. Moby Dick was okay but Mightor was copied from Shazam!
>>
>>153449719
birdman was rad as fuck to five year old me
it was pretty similar to space ghost iirc
>>
>>153448944
>some of the late 80's-90's stuff might as well be a different studio.

thats not a valid counter argument. It says HB on the masthead
>>
>>153449840
>Mightor was copied from Shazam!

Actually the original plan for Mightor was a Mighty Thor cartoon. It was the planned follow up to HB's Alex Toth-designed Fantastic Four cartoon but Marvel instead opted for those cheap ass clutch cargo style toons for their other characters.

HB retooled the initial pre production + design to make it a dino-themed but the parallels are pretty obviously there.
>>
>>153443666
You are a waste of time Satan
>>
>>153449840
>>153450126

Birdman is Hawkman, Mightor is Thor, what else did they copy?

Been ages since I watched them but I remember enjoying Birdman, Space Ghost, and Herculoids.
>>
>>153451043
Snagglepuss wasn't planned to be gay but he was based on the guy who played Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz movie and was so closeted that he was a wife beater
>>
>>153449988
It's like comparing silver/bronze age superman with modern superman though. Sure, they're the same company but they're worlds apart.

yes

They had plenty of competition
Felix the Cat, Popeye, Snuffy Smith, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Underdog, Clutch Cargo, Gumby, Alvin and the Chipmunks, the Beatles cartoon
>>
>>153443666
60s HB was fine. 70s is when it became a waste, then the 90s redeemed itself.
>>
>>153457340
Rocky and Bullwinkle and Underdog were well written but they were dirt cheap with very limited animation. Gumby was a religious man's independent project that did not get produced on a weekly TV schedule.

Chipmunks, Beatles, Felix and Popeye were producing their cheapest, most limited output for TV in the 60s.
Are you seriously holding up *Clutch Cargo* as something that could hold up the TV animation industry?

>then the 90s redeemed itself
Cartoon Network doesn't count. The Hanna-Barbera character library was hopelessly trying to attract younger audiences with shit like Yo Yogi and such.

Again, it was just the Scooby-Doo and Tom and Jerry movies that kept the lights on
>>
>>153459287
Nigga, the 90s HB was Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo and The Powerpuff girls. As well as Swat Cats and New Johnny Quest. They absolutely redeemed themselves.

Real Jonny was a production mess nobody asked for as Ted Turner forced it onto every network he owned. Its only legacy is setting up Toonami for when anime finally started becoming cool with the West, and the block then promptly pretended it never existed.

Flintstones = Honeymooners in stone age
Jetsons = Blondie and Dagwood in the future
Top Cat = Sgt. Bilko with cats
Jonny Quest = Jack Armstrong the all-american boy
Pixie & Dixie = Tom & Jerry (they stole from themselves)

I used to love watching HB cartoons on boomerang.
I tried watching them on a streaming site and it's not the same. They're not made to be binge watched in order.
On tv they're shuffled around so you get a variety of shows with a consistent style.

Yeah I have really fond memories waking up early in the morning before school hearing the Smurfs come on. I liked Snorks more but it always came on when it was time for Mom to take me to school, so I usually missed it.
>>
>>153443666
True
>>
2 Stupid Dogs/Super Secret Squirrel Are extremely underrated in my opinion. I think outside of Scooby gems like that and maybe shows like Wacky Races though, most of HB was pure slop. Some of The Flintstones mid-seasons episodes surprisingly hold up pretty well which is why I think they managed to stick around longer but by the last season when they introduced Kazoo it was fucking over. Poor Fred got fucked over way harder than Scooby ever did. Starting out as one of the most influential cartoons on early television and now barely being known for vitamins and Fruity Pebbles.
>>
>>153481108
For me it's the Scooby-Doo fruit snacks

Question what made scooby stand the test of time compared to all the rest of the H-B characters, you would think the popularity of The Simpsons and family guy The Flintstones will fit right in with the other adult family animated sitcoms
>>
>>153486439
All the clones struggled with character motivation besides that's what they did in scooby do

Good, another HB thread, the last one died too quickly. I'll post all I have, starting with this unplanned otp shirine. The pair on the left is from McDonald's, I think from the 1st movie, so far, that's normal, then bought a bunch of off-brand Kinder Surprise, and that's how each Hefty has their own harem of Brainies. The other pair on the right is my latest addition; all I need to finish it are their houses.

I have PlayMobil Mystery Machine; it came with Fred, Velma, and Daphne. I would post it, but it's over 4mb. I really want the rest of the sets, especially the haunted house and the cemetery.

Nice. What was that game about? A classic mystery-solving adventure?
