If the writers had made up more characters it might have worked better. Probably not the vibe they were going for but say Daria had a drop or two of Quinn's attitude while still being the outsider. Have her perhaps see several different boyfriends and show her being similarly adept at working them like Quinn works her own orbiters. Sort of a dark mirror of her popular sister. Popular media got super lame when it decided the Bad Girl troupe could be applied to the main character. Daria shouldn't be pure evil but she should show a bit of self interest more often. A believable flaw for an upper middle class outcast.

She should have been social enough to date Trent during the show even if she had to sneak around to do it. The drama could come from personality differences in such a plot instead of the over used will they, won't they formula. Dare to teach the audience a hard lesson or several. That such things aren't always good for you no matter how fun at first.
