Sure she has some moments of dunking on Dipper for his actions but it is often framed as her being just as if not more selfish and played as a joke more often than not. The problem with how Mabel's character was handled was that there were very few, if any, moments where she actually had to do right by Dipper and put his needs before hers for once. The finale could have given a proper resolution to this unbalanced dynamic and it does sort of try, but either the writing was rushed or just incompetent, cementing Mabel as the unreasonable, manipulative brat that Dipper just has to deal with and "be the bigger person". And no, the "you don't really have to give up on your dreams for me" line after everything is solved does not help her case.

>>153452102There is attitude like being confident and outspoken, and then there's the being unreasonable, overly confrontational and rude, and people respond to hostile behavior accordingly regardless of gender. I find it rather concerning that many don't seem to be able to tell the difference. If you want to pull off an overconfident but still likable jerk character there needs to be 1: a believable reason behind the confedence and 2: a cost to the confrontational attitude. Think dr.Gregory House from House MD, his arrogance rightfully pisses everyone off but nobody can deny his skill and accomplishments in saving patients, yet he's not let off the hook because of it and having all his realtionships eventually end in misery and loneliness is the price he pays for his attitude.By contrast a character like Korra certainly has some of the appropriate setups for similar interesting developments, but the writers fumble the excecution at every turn. Mastering the three elements works as a source for confedence, and her constantly butting heads with everyone she meets builds up nice tension, only for everything to fall flat when the other parties just give in to her stubborness because this dumbass love triange needs to go somewhere and Korra solving her biggest obsticle, airbending, the only way she has ever known; force. It almost feels like the writers are mocking the very concept of basic good storytelling by having Tenzin tell Korra airbending cannot be forced, setting up a clear path for character growth, only for her to literally brute force her way into victory and not actually learn anything about how airbending works outside of some basic footwork. If that wasn't bad enough the season finale just gives back her bending abilites immediately after taking them away so it can pretend to have had stakes and lasting consequences, and the show runners try to pretend Korra did anyhing to earn this other than cry and have Aangs ghost do everything for her.
