Why doesn't anybody try to make a serious, dramatic animated show that's also age-appropriate and okay for children to watch? Everything these days is either incredibly dumbed-down for toddlers or full of unnecesary gore and profanity.

TAS was a failure by every metric Warner Bros cared about (older audience, didn’t move toys).

Executive boards.
>Everything these days is either incredibly dumbed-down for toddlers or full of unnecesary gore and profanity.
Corporate mandates.

>the same fag everyday
>>
>>153455039
because adults and teens will be the main audience so just let it be m rated. in the 90s it was drastically less likely for a non child to be watching a cartoon.
>>
>>153455078
Wrong
>>
>>153456274
But that adds nothing to the show and usually just alienates the larger audience. That's why every netflix adult cartoon fails.
>>
>>153456382
i'm not saying invincible levels of gore should be the norm but even return samurai jack wouldn't fly for kids.
>>
>>153456382
Also a lot of adult cartoons are fucking ugly as shit and I don't know why they do that.
>>
>>153455039
A serious-minded cartoon artist got social penalties in the past decade for not having a faggy, ironic, consumerist mentality. You won’t get a show like this without a serious adult mind instead of a manchild one.
>>

Adjacent to the whole unnecesary gore cartoon discussion:
>looking into mascot horror to see it it's age appropriate
>everything is about murdering kids and every colorful blobby toy monster bleeds gallons of blood in its extended unspippable death scene
Why the fuck is this the case? Especially when most of these monsters are implied to be robots and shouldn't be gushing blood everywhere?
>>
>>153457848
>Especially when most of these monsters are implied to be robots
this is only in FNAF which is very not gory. all the other games have organic monsters.
>>
>>153455078
TAS sold a shitload of merchandise.
>>
I think S&P saved creatives back in the day from being edgelords and being more subtle.
>>
>>153455039
Because there is no profitable audience for it
>>
Because big studios are fucking lazy and don't want to invest in work anymore. Why the hell do you think AI is on the rise?
>>
>>153459262
you think so? Like imagine they made a serious Spider-man cartoon. It wouldn't make money?

I was old enough to watch this when it came out, but I didn't watch it and I don't think anyone else did either
>>
>>153459281
If you look at the last 20 years of media across the board it seems like nothing makes money that isn’t geared specifically at social media addicted women.
>>
>>153458044
You weren’t there, you might see a couple of random TAS figures at Caldor or something but Batman shit from the movies was in literally retail outlet in the western world and TAS didn’t meet the expectations that created
>>
>>153459428
You mean people who actually spend money?
>>
>>153455078
It was successful enough that they commissioned a second series and committed to long-term investment with the DCAU.
>>
>>153458529
Agreed.
But when S&P disallows an element that is tasteful and essential/irreplaceable it also really sucks
>>
>>153455039
>Why doesn't anybody try to make a serious, dramatic animated show
1. No competency in the industry. Particularly in writing departments.
2. Market segmentation runs the industry now. That means pigeon-holing your proposal to a specific age bracket, with no effort put into aiming at a wider audience. Which would require more nuance in the writing.
3. The producers are retarded and don't understand (or even have any respect for) their audiences.
>>
>>153455039
I may not be a capeshit expert, but it seems like the DCAU is full of what you're looking for. (Picrel included.)

Why is it so hard to get competent writing?
>>

FNAF is a massive hit and is very (super) edgy by the children’s standards of when Batman:TAS was made. It’s an example of what kids actually like while adults of the time invented standards and forced them upon children against their will and interest.

Fans of the show weren't buying kiddy-ass action figures. A Cat Selina would've sold well. It would probably be going for 60 bucks on ebay today, like Night Hunter Pantera from Legends of Dragonore...and THAT series never even got a cartoon or comic.
>>
>>153459451
I was there, and if TAS "didn't meet expectations' Fox wouldn't have ordered another 20 episodes on top of the 65 initial order and Kids' WB wouldn't have commissioned a successor series when they were doing Superman. Action cartoons that fail get cancelled quickly, they're not going to throw money away.
>>
I know it's hard to believe, but kids don't actually like adult stuff. I knew kids who loved the Ghostbusters cartoon who were put to sleep by the movie.
>>
>>153455078
Terrible bait.

>Why doesn't anybody try to make a serious, dramatic animated show that's also age-appropriate and okay for children to watch?
You say it like it's an easy thing to accomplish.
>>
>>153455039
Reminder only autistic manchildren get triggered by gore

I'm not gonna pretend I know how the writing process in the industry works, but I'd wager it's the usual thing of suits not understanding or caring what competent writing entails and the teams they hire consisting of small friend groups sharing indentical values incapable and often unwilling to produce work that has appeal outside their social sphere.

>I knew kids who loved the Ghostbusters cartoon who were put to sleep by the movie.
Those kids sound like fucking faggots, I saw that movie when I was 8 and loved it.
