Last time, Norman was very eagerly adding to his rock collection, Mary-Jane quit school, and two women really don't want to be on life support>previous threadshttps://pastebin.com/CMHcDYaq
>>153456151>the final chapterthis seems like false advertising.
Are you really really for surely sure?
Oh here we go
That's a pretty good trick
>>153456167>Osborn IndustriesThat reminds me that 'Oscorp' was a name from the cartoon, when did it get carried over into the comics?
That's a reaction face in panel 3
>>153456183The books relaunch with new #1s after this storyline, so it's technically accurate as being the final chapter of this era and of the original volumes of ASM, etc.
Both of them just let them play each other
>>153456524Marvin Acme would be both proud and disgusted.
THE END
>>153456335Eh, not even worth an F. She was kinda a bitch.
>>153456517>>153456524I can not remember any build up or foreshadowing to this plan that didn't even happen.
Bit of a copout
>>153456858this is the dumbest retcon
>>153456601And here we go. This is the point where Spider Girl can no longer match up with mainline mavel. Also, if this is May, WHERE THE HELL IS THE BABY!? WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO THE BABY?!
>>153456943this is really boring and predictable other than may being alive i guess
Spider-Man and being stuck under a big heavy thingName a more iconic duo
>>153456956NONE OF YOUR BEESWAX
>>153456533>DNA BombWhat, did the Jackal leave his superfluous plot device behind?
>>153456880>>153456930>>153456943This is the worst copout in comic history.
>>153456984FUCK YOU!I WANT THE BABY!
>>153457072if only Spider-Man had a phone
>>153457128A phone? What is he, made of money?
And that the end of Spider-Man forever until tomorrowSo what was the reasoning behind relaunching all the spider-titles?
>>153456601A lot of these pages are more poignant than intended.
>>153457172Thanks for storytiming, Magister!
>>153457172thanks magister
>>153457172>So what was the reasoning behind relaunching all the spider-titles?The renumbering genie was out of the bottle with Heroes Reborn, Heroes Return and Marvel Knights, and had resulted in a big sales spike every time, and this was a big move to bring in John Byrne as a star talent to turn around a line of books that had been underperforming for the previous few years. It was all a terrible failure, but the reasoning behind most of it was at least understandable.
>>153457339>>153457172The real question is why go with Byrne when Busiek literally just finished an entire series set around the first few years of spidey and he could’ve expanded on it
>>153456601I'm with PeterNOOOOOOOO
>>153457422>The real question is why go with Byrne when BusiekHe already had his hands full with Avengers, Iron Man and Thunderbolts, signing a star talent who's leaving DC is going to be easier than the internal conflict you could cause trying to abruptly pull a writer off books in one corner of Marvel mid-run to move him elsewhere. A genuine star artist is usually more of a sales draw than a writer anyway, as much as Marvel like to pretend otherwise.
>>153457422Byrne was still seen as a bigger name even if his star had fallen during the 90s. It's just that he hadn't had a comic that had a really large negative reaction till Spider-Man Chapter One. Wonder Woman and the Genesis event came close. Busiek was also having health issues at the time and was still working on Avengers and Iron Man (and I think Thunderbolts? I can't remember when he left it). They might've asked him and he declined, or they might've asked Byrne first because they wanted to get a big project out of him.
>>153457172Thanks Magister. How does it feel to be done with Spider-Man forever until tomorrow?
>>153456205This Matt person I've never heard of before must be important.
>>153456943What.
>>153456810>>153456821You know, with the mask's long ears and the whole 'DNA bomb' thing, you'd be excused if you thought this was actually the Jackal rather than Norman.
>>153458635Oops, spoiled myself
>>153457671>and I think Thunderbolts? I can't remember when he left itHe stays on until about the turn of the millennium. For perspective, >>153456413 came out the same week Hawkeye started playing a role.
>>153456858This adds another layer of complexity to the High Evolutionary thing. Clones are real, you can't make a virus to turn somebody into somebody else, unless you're turning that person into Carrion or Aunt May, and you don't get to implant memories with the latter.
>>153457339Heroes Return I didn't like that they relaunched with a new #1 (they could've just gone back to the old numbering easily) but I tolerated it because I liked the books at the time. Daredevil's relaunch was pushing it, to me, and Spider-Man's relaunch I thought was a bad idea (they should've just kept ASM's old numbering while relaunching Peter Parker: Spider-Man)
>>153456981I feel like the only times it really worked were the original and the one with Ben.
>>153457138Yeah no I guess the baby is just super dead and six feet under like the editorial prefers it.
>>153461814The only reason she survived her birth in the first place was so they could dangle her in front of the audience like this. Of course, nowadays they have the marriage to use for that.
>>153459682Maybe you can do anything with genetics, but you need enough budget and skill and Norman has more budget than other people.
>>153457671>Marvel thought Byrne could pull another Man of Steel but on Spider-Man
>>153462553Don't know about budget, but the resolution of the Clone Saga pretty much depended on Norman being able to play Warren and everyone with ease, so maybe that's enough.
>>153457138How many times did Peter do "Spider-man no more" thing?
>>153464666That's like asking how many times he's ended up at a bridge. He'll keep doing it until MJ finds a Katzenberg equivalent to take him to.
>>153456943Seriously?
>>153456943Spider-man. He thinks a lot.
>>153463248That too. People were already making comparisons to his revamp of Superman, both positive and negative, before Chapter One was out.
>>153465276I sure hope no one found anything positive about Chapter One. Like Man of Steel does have good stuff in it.
>>153456151What's up with shitty Spider-man story and magic?
>>153464666>the responsibility line>remembering uncle Ben>muh dead gf>I give up>I'm tired of your bs. Now I'll behave like an asshole>ASM #33 callbackad nauseam
>>153465822It's funny how most readers agree that Spider-Man shouldn't have stories with magic, usually they don't work. But it seems like Marvel hasn't been aware of that since the 90s
>>153466438There are two sides to that, though. On the one hand, yes, Spidey is at his best when he's more street level, so things like magic are best avoided. But, on the other, that invites a very restrictive mindset about what Spider-Man can and cannot be, and that brings its own troubles.>Judas Traveller is too mystical for a Spider-Man villain, so now he's just a Mastermind clone and all the time we spent with him was pointless>Spider-Man can't be have a baby, so off she goes>Aunt May can't be dead or know about Peter, so she comes back and the one we were dealing with for those strong stories was an actress>Spider-Man can't be married, so...
>>153466438Spider-Man can have a little magic, as a treatThat time he fought a dragon was cool
>>153466928At least part of that was the art and the charming lolibabaa.
>>153466928Well he hasn't had any bad team ups with Doctor Strange so far.
>>153466802>>153466928That's why I wrote usually. There are exceptions, Strange is the biggest one>that brings its own troubles.good point
>>153467584I didn't before but I feel like the me of now would've dumped Uncanny X-men 190+191
