Is he just popular because of powerlevelfags?
>>153466307No. He’s popular because he’s literally me.
>>153466307Because he’s sexy.
>>153466307He's popular because the ladies wants his super prime cuck.
>>153466831All the ladies.
>>153466307Nah, he was hated until fairly recently, even powerlevelfags didn't want to touch him.
>>153466880All!
>>153466307It's because now he's become an amiable reader stand-in (who is correct), with a suspicious amount of /co/ waifus throwing themselves at him.

>>153469065Nah, I was an edgyboi when Infinite Crisis came out and followed his whole journey as it went. Prime has always been a favorite of mine. Williamson writes him weird, but I've gotten used to it now.
>>153469112oh, i thought it was something really clever. i didn't even consider that.
>>153469135Well there's no way of proving you right or wrong so I'm just gonna call it bullshit.
>>153469185I have literally no advantage to lying.
>>153467057That Red Hood message is so specific (and correct) I wonder if it's Williamson, Mora, or both who want the helmet back.
Do you guys have a reading order to read his stories ?I like him, but barely read any comics where he appears
>>153469542Start with Infinite Crisis.
>>153469065>anon wasn't here for the prime threadsYou missed out buddy. They were a lot of fun when it was shown he went on forums to argue with people. He was a lovable little shithead. Now he's a cocky nerd with maxed out sex appeal.
>>153466307He's certainly more liked as of late but that doesn't mean he's popular.
>>153466880Would they fight for him or have a Prime threesome? Fuck these two random ladies make my dick hard.

>>153473715Yeah I don't really think this proves anything.
>>153467057>>153469046He is neither amiable nor has amicable interactions, instead it seems everyone is just written to act out of character.
>>153473066Conner is better than Prime and that's a fact. Prime's whole spiel was that he was butthurt that Conner was Superboy and threw a tantrum about it and went on a murder spree. And after all that Conner is the more liked and more successful of the two.
>>153473066>Prime for what I understand just got fucked over by a bunch of gay writers who wanted to fuck a fictional character and that ruined the character foreverYou understand wrong.
>>153474013In a strange meta twist of fate, Johns derailed Conner hard. With both the retcon of his origin, and infinite crisis.
Maybe I'm retarded, but I don't even know the progression of Superboy Prime. All I remember is his being super gay for Silver Age and then the rest is a blur.
>>153474054Explain how the retcon of his origins derailed Conner.
>>153474072It's the main storyline of his that adaptations ever bother exploringMost skip the Metropolis kid, or his time in Hawaii, Tana MoonIt's always about the weird Lex Luthor and Superman connectionsEven now during this Reign of the Superboys Summer, his only reason to get involved in the Supergirl book is because Lena Luthor is technically his sister
>>153474067There really isn't one because ironically the "real" person from the "real" world is the character most at the mercy of the writer.
>>153474142The problem isn't the retcon to his origins, the problem is he's keep being introduced through teen titan adaptions. You're not gonna see any Metropolis Kid becuase that needs a lived-in Superman world.
>>153474054>>153474142The retcon is what saved him from fading into obscurity like many other legacy characters by permanently cementing his connection to Superman. Being the genetically engineered hybrid of Superman and Lex is much more compelling story than being some failed clone of a Z-list character and dressing like a greaser.
>>153466307He's popular because the ending of Death Metal basically redeemed him with the meta-text being of "event comics suck, go outside and touch grass" resonate well.
>>153467057Strongly opinionated people are trash.
>>153470433
>>153474663Resonates well if you're an idiot maybe.>lot of people are telling me this whole death metal sucks and is actively ruining DC comics>but this tie-in for death metal says actually those people are wrong >and not because death metal doesn't suck>this tie-in to death metal agrees with that>but saying death metal sucks and is actively ruining DC is alarmist and those people should just go touch grass!>see, even superboy prime who is the biggest manchild loser says so>thank you desth metal tie-in for giving me the courage of still consuming death metal while ignoring how bad it and all of its lead up was by accusing the critics of being too invested
>>153474635>we retconned him into being bland shit.Gee, thanks.
>>153475336Anon you're talking about 10 years.Becoming Half-Luthor didn't change Superboy's character, the fact we went from 1993 to 2003 did.
>>153475364I'm talking about 23 years ago,. That retcon certainly didn't put him in any kind of spotlight.
>>153475480That's what I'm talking about. I mean seriously, what else could I be talking about?
>>153475480He's had quite a few successful, well-received appearances outside of comics, all of which used the Superman/Lex origin, even when adapting Death of Superman/Reign of Supermen that look place long before the retcon happened. Young Justice and Titans also made him pretty popular amongst mainstream audiences. He has the same problem as Jason: pretty sizable mainstream fanbases thanks to non-comic appearances but DC doesn't know how or doesn't want to capitalize on it with some wanting them to just disappear completely.
>>153474663>>153475275For you maybe. I straight up dropped Superhero comics after reading that issue (on good terms of course). I decided it would be better for me to practice writing and drawing and maybe broaden my horizons a bit instead of reading the same story over and over again. Like a lot of anons said, that one (tie-in) issue was a pretty good jumping off point for DC comics in general. I'm satisfied. I don't even know how Dark Crisis ended, or rather, I know exactly how it ended: Superboy Prime punched Batkek and then went outside to live his life in the real world instead of wasting his energy and time getting pissed off at comics.
>>153476019also to spend time with his gf and his dog
>>153474663My ex and I actually got into an argument about this. She thought it was incredibly sad and hated the message, but I loved it and found it uplifting.
>>153467057>It's because now he's become an amiable reader stand-in (who is correct)Infinite Crisis turned him into a stand-in for readers who hated the direction Big 2 cape comics had gone in, hated how much characters had been changed after the point where they started reading, especially if the changes were darker and edgier, just didn't care about new characters introduced after a certain point, and wanted to burn it all down, start over and do it right. In the mid 2000s there were enough people still enjoying cape comics for this to be an objectionable opinion and for Superboy Prime to get portrayed as a tantrum-throwing villain. By today it's hard to argue against his position at all, just like the villain in that Young Justice mini.
>>153476019>Like a lot of anons said, that one (tie-in) issue was a pretty good jumping off point for DC comics in general. No it's not, the fuck are you on about? It resolves literally nothing at all like nothing. How is it a good jumping off point? It's literally the middle of the story. Like Superboy Prime doesn't even leave the story here so even in the narrative of the tie-in comic you're talking about that statement doesn't make sense.
>>153477480>stop you are liking things wrong
>>153470917>>153472380Thank you gentlemen
>>153477731Yeah you are wrong because this isn't a matter of opinion but a matter of illiteracy. That Death Metal tie-in is fucking astroturfed double bluff, Superboy Prime didn't fuck off and leave because he was too cool for DC comics now. Now instead he showed up again in the end meaning he was always gonna show up meaning that tie-in was bullshit.
>>153469758prime threads were so goated. storytime for sinestro corps war when it was coming out was an incredible /co/ experience, then THAT page and this board went ballistic
>>153476272>start over and do it right. That's literally what Scott Snyder has been doing for the past 10 years, constantly and repetitively saying that now they can finally fix universe and make DC comics great again! But it's literally been 10 FUCKING YEARS of THE SAME FUCKING PROMISE.I'd say you're getting played but you must be a scott snyder shill because who the fuck in their right mind thinking there's been a change of direction?Like come the FUCK on guys! Recognize these posts for what they are.
>>153477776There comes a point where you can just stop. Any comic is as good as other to do so.
>>153477828Guys stop and think for just a moment.Anon is saying how great it was that this death metal tie-in comic with Superboy Prime for letting him to stop caring and walk away from comics. But think, THINK, for just a second about these superboy prime threads and posts that just salivate over Superboy Prime, how they're presenting as a savior for comics.Like these posts >>153476272THEY OUTRIGHT CONTRADICTING THEMSELVES.
Funny how the current SBP is much more akin to his og version than the IC one.
>>153477882And remember, whose been in charge for the last ten years?>>153477822Scott Snyder has been relaying on the same playbook for years now guys, constantly placing him and his friends as the saviors who will fix comics, as soon as they retcon this one thing.
>>153477901GUYS come ON, do you not see how obvious this is? WOWEE WOW WOW COMICS ARE FIXED NOW LA LA LA NO! It's the same lie they been peddling since 2016!!!
>>153477924Nigga, only you are making it a big contention point. Shadow box all you want, at the end you'll just hit a wall.
IT'S A CONSTANT APPEAL TO A MYTHIC PASTNot the real past but a mythic past where everything is fine and the future has been fixed.
I don't think anyone really liked "him" as a character. Even the people who could understand his dilemma and perspective could also tell he was as essentially just a criticism of fans who didn't like senseless modern changes and shock value, only to be used to deliver just that In the narrative. His power wasn't to make him cool or a threatening villain, it was mostly to allow him to be a hypocrite who causes more destruction than the world he originally wanted to fix. He was essentially a living callout until very recently.
>>153477948With Metal Scott promised everything will be fine as soon as they turn back time and get rid of Nu52.With Death Metal Scott promised everything will be fine as soon as they turn back time and get rid of CoIEAnd now with DC Next Level, phase two of DC All in, the promise is that everything will be fine soon as they turn back time and just get rid of modern comics in general. The narrative is fraying a little so Snyder&Friends don't really know who to scapegoat. All I know is that no one ever points to how scott snyder destroyed the multiverse for his perptua OC and how Batman who laughs is being brought back.
>>153478015They need to reconnect everything back thanks to fucking waller and earth 3
>>153478025But they won't because all that is connected to Scott Snyder to explain more multiverse fuckery to justify his Absolute DC which is just nu52 in disguise.
Sweet, the collage schizo has changed format.
>>153478025>>153478063You guys got to understand that all these componets are coming together just so Scott Snyder can brag about bringing back the multiverse Grant Morrison made. Death Metal bringing back Superboy Prime? Absolute Justice stating that the multiverse is locked away? The news that the Batman who lmaos is coming back? That's multiverse shenanigans being set up.
>>153478096Oh yes label away anon, accuse me of being just one person.Better accuse me of being ESL too right?Maybe South American because South Americans lack chill when it comes to comic book fandoms.Arriba aruba amigo migas!
>>153478136Nah, you just sound sleep deprived.
>>153478151Nah? So I'm not the same person!Cool, now that we've establish that let's talk about how little scott snyder and the shit he has done ever seem to enter the conversation and how it's always somebody's else fault comic are the way they are now.
>>153478173Sure, keep shadow boxing. Reply to this (or not), I won't be reading your mid-tier ramblings. Be safe.
>>153478198Oh I'm shadow boxing anon?>>153478096What you doing over here then?
>>153474185The real problem is that they, the creators, don't read comics. They are basically wikifags.>>153474635Tell this to Cir-el
kon needs to gouge primes eyes out.
>>153466307This matchup was always so funny. Konnor is maybe half as strong as Superman and Prime is twice as strong, at least.
>>153476272>Infinite Crisis turned him into a stand-in for readers who hated the direction Big 2 cape comics had gone in, hated how much characters had been changed after the point where they started readingIronically enough, this also made him a self insert for the writers through psychological projection.
>>153478496You can easily tell that Cir-El because that's just what happened, she was a supergirl with weak connections.
>>153477961Fair point, one way or the other people are more about “what” he is than “who” he is unlike most characters because of the fanboy gimmick
>>1534695421st appearance
>>153477812I read it recently. It's fucking garbage. /co/ always had shit taste.
>>153466307DC blaming a fictional character for all the mistakes of real writers and editors had a boomerang effect of making people (rightfully) feel like Prime is a martyr undergoing a constant humiliation ritual by evil people. Johns amazingly closed that book and lowkey told everyone "the way we've been treating Prime is bullshit, it was OUR fault, not his, that things got as bad as they did."

>>153480690Thing that never happened. Seriously, what a ridiculous persecution fetish you're acting out right now.
>>153480485I never got the hype.
>>153482634>Thing that never happened. You sure? Because I'm pretty sure Brightest Day blamed the entirety of Zero Hour on a never-before-seen space bug named Parallax. Then Infinite Crisis tie-ins blamed Prime's punches for post-Crisis continuity weirdness. And then Doomsday Clock blamed Dr. Manhattan for the nu52 existing. Did I misread all three of those things, all coincidentally written by the same guy?
>>153483015>Did I misread all three of those things, all coincidentally written by the same guy?I mean it's pretty obvious you did.
>>153480485>>153482744you guys are either zoomers or too newthis place went bananas. coming off of infinite crisis and 52 then sinestro corp wars, johns had this board in a chokehold forever
>>153483406I've been here for a while and I have zero fucking clue what you mean by Prime Threads because we simply didn't give a fuck about Prime to have dedicated threads about him.
>>153483406>zoomers or too newAnon, Sinestro Corps War was an event from 2007, that was over 2 decades ago, and most of those old /co/ threads are basically lost media now. Also, you gotta remember /co/ doesn't really care about comics as much as it used to.
>>153478547He might as well be a Geoff Johns stand-in>Loves silver age>Retcons heavily to line up with silver age>Kills Titans C-listersHe just needs to be a Barryfag or Halfag.
>>153477480>How is it a good jumping off point? It's literally the middle of the story.Because like he said it's just going to end with a "to be continued" there is no end to DC comic's story
