Disability pride? Daredevil is proud that he can't see? Silhouette is proud that she can't walk?

He used his hearing aid as a quasi-superpower multiple times, and he was originally back to full hearing after Heroes Return.

It's still wild that Echo in the comics deaf but her powers allow her to compensate similar to Daredevil and she can talk and everything. But that wasn't enough for Marvel Studios, so they made her deaf, mute (using ASL), and an amputee.

Yes. But X-Men comics have been dogshit for like 25 years and none of that should hold precedence. I got into comics as a kid in the late 2000s and I knew what was then going on wasn't great (though still not nearly as bad as it would get in the 2010s) and back issues where where it's at.

Marvel's minority rules are fucked up. Greg Pak went from writing one of the most acclaimed Hulk runs with broad appeal to being relegated to Asian books. I didn't even know he was Asian when he was writing Hulk, but Marvel reduced him to a token.

its not a good idea perhaps, but that was the intentional allusion they were trying to create.

Seems to me like they set that whole era up to make him the new magneto. Mags is resurrected with his sins balanced, Charles blows up a space frigate or something to mirror magneto blowing up a submarine, giving him the original sin the self righteous egotist characters on the team will never let him live down. They also really wanted to mirror Scott being a badass at the end of AvX, didn't seem to work though. Probably because Duggan's fall of x side was so fucking ass that it poisoned Gillens decent ending.

A lot of Marvel heroes actually did start off as disabled or are actually considered disabled
Ben Grimm has to have things accommodated for his condition
Strange's hands are fucked
The original idea of Thor with Donald Blake had him use a walking stick
Tony Stark for the longest time had his heart condition and had to plug himself on the wall just to live (I've actually seen people online relate to that and Stark's own thoughts even if he did get better)
>>

Well now they have a reason to pull her out and parade her around from time to time. Its like when its Pride Month and Marvel and DC pull out all their gay characters to show how amazing their "representation" is despite 95% of them not being used outside of these issues since 2008 or something.

An entire porn game was made where the unspoken point was how unimportant their disabilities were to the characters but more importantly comic book universes are the shittiest place to discuss this where magic cures and cybernetics compensate for so many physical disabilities. Black? Fine? Alphabet people? Sure. This? No fucking way.
>>
>>153466528
This is almost as bad as time that Marvel decided that all the asian characters knew each other and hung out regularly in an exclusive group, all getting along just because they were asian, regardless of the fact that asians often don't like other asian nationalities. Then there was the time they decided that all black characters all knew each other, and hung out in an exclusive group all getting along just because they were black, regardless of the fact that "urban" black people sometimes don't like well-spoken black people with no ghetto mannerisms.

Legion and Nuklo have been called autistic, but that is just 80s comic book writer questionable understanding of psychology, and the former is comic book style DID.

Teon from Generation Hope had kind of a general mental disability. And Hulk has been written as intellectually challenged and speaking broken English, though that was not the original portrayal.
>>
Elektra had OCD in her solo movie, but not the comics.
>>
>>153472812
Yeah I just personally don't think "being more abled than the average human" makes them disabled even if they're missing an arm or whatever, because said arm is replaced with a super arm, said blindness is replaced with super hearing etc.

>>153473038
Monet's sisters can combine to become a single entity, but one has autism. The original plan was for them to be Monet and there was no other real one.
>>
>>153472840
Yeah I just don't think these characters have any weaknesses like that because any physical weakness has been replaced with something that far surpasses the average human. Yes, Echo may be deaf but she can "hear" better than the average human because she can see sounds from miles away. Silhouette may need crutches but she is faster than the average human and she can literally do multiple backflips and scale walls and shit. etc.
>>
>>153473298
Yeah if I remember correctly there was never meant to be a Monet but Monet ended up popular so they just had the M Twins temporarily pretend to be Monet while Monet was actually trasnformed into Penance. But then Penance was also popular so then they had Penance become a seperate entity too. It's all a bit messy.
>>
>>153473292
It could if they still struggled in certain ways their super-abilities couldn't make up for, especially if that was a lot of their day-to-day. Like an athlete with those carbon fiber blades making them a faster sprinter doesn't cancel out their disability. But I can't think of a lot of real cases of that, except for many non-spotlight mutants. Honestly things like Bruce Banner's 'episodes' seem to cause more issues in his everyday life than technical disabilities like Daredevil being blind.
>>
>>153473329
I think I remember Lobdell saying they were supposed to be her, but she became so popular that she became her own character. But I think a lot of the plans with that character changed. Like they show her father in a fantasy and he's an overweight white guy. Indicating she has a non-white mom. Then he's shown obscured but still white. Then he's half black and his father is white and Monet's mother was Algerian. Meaning she's a quarter black, a quarter white, and half Algerian. Yet some weird race-obsessed x-fans claim she's fully black and that her Algerian mother is black, which makes no sense.
>>
>>153472438
he could walk before krakoa, a long time before.
>everybody who died is NOT the original. They're just a copy that thinks they're the real deal. In some cases, a copy of a copy.
what's the difference, you're a copy of your parents. Regardless clones have existed in marvel since forever, the x-men themselves could do it they had wanted to certainly. Their resurrection protocol is distinctly different and requires a reality warper and access to the phoenix through hope because its narratively true resurrection and not simple cloning. How that interacts with them having multiple of the same person come back by accident, I dunno comics.

>>153472683
Apparently disabled readers don't like having the characters be "fixed" so marvel is sensitive to doing it. Cyclops could have fixed his eyes through krakoa resurrection, same for karma and forges leg, cables arm etc. They never really came up with any reason that they didn't.
>>
>>153473470
Monet's skin tone varies a lot, so presumably territorial behavior since sometimes she was just straight up white.
>>
>>153473396
I think it all depends on what powers they have. Like to me the least disabled one of the line up is Misty Knight. Yes she's missing an arm but it's replaced with a cyborg arm that makes her super strong. That makes her more abled than the average human. The most disabled one there is Hawkeye because he's deaf in one ear and being a really good archer and really accurate doesn't make up for that struggle with deafness. You're right htat Bruce Banner seems to have more issues in his everyday life than Daredevil, because while Daredevil is blind, his other senses are so powerful that it's like he can see. So he doesn't struggle in everyday life because he can practically see in front of him, it's just in a different way than the average human.

I think Silhouettte is the most interesting one of the lineup, because she has super reflexes and can scale things with ease but she can't walk. So there's like an interesting thing to work with there there.

So to me when Xavier was in the wheelchair, I considered him disabled. Because despite being a super powerful telepath, he was still unable to walk. Or Jubilee, her fireworks powers don't aid with her dyslexia. Someone like Echo isn't disabled to me because while she's deaf, she can physically see sounds and can even focus that power to "listen" miles away. And the way her power works is that she can even tell if someone's lying by how the words are glowing. That to me makes her more abled than the average human.
>>
>>153473525
>same for karma and forges leg, cables arm etc. They never really came up with any reason that they didn't.

>>153475410
It also feels like, I'm sure Xavier is in a hover chair in the cartoon cause it was easier to animate, but it was also much cooler than a wheelchair. Wheelchairs are built to be practical, but you don't play DnD for practical real world analogs. You figure a paraplegic PC would have some sort of bitching mecha horse or drider chair or something. Hell, Necormancer in a palanquin made of bones with legs. You know, something besides just an action wheelchairr.
>>
>>153476575
>I'm sure Xavier is in a hover chair in the cartoon cause it was easier to animate
It's probably because the cartoon was using the 1991 Jim Lee designs from the comics, and that was the new chair Lee designed for Xavier.

The original sentiment, back in the 1990s, was that "disabled people are still people who deserve respect, and can still accomplish things despite their handicaps" but it's been utterly warped due to a combination of depraved amorality and low IQ people hijacking progressivism into simply worshiping flaws and abnormalities for their own sake. So now, instead of encouraging crippled people to aspire to achievements in spite of their handicaps, they're taught to simply celebrate their crippled state as an achievement in itself. It's perverse.

You and literally everyone else writing stories throughout human history. That attractive equates with every other positive trait a person can possibly have and vice versa is a near universal ingrained belief because people are lizards. Even as it pertains to villains the hot ones like goblin queen and magneto get infinite chances to reform. A chud like Toad got thrown in the hole for no reason and no one gave a shit about getting him out because he's a sub5, even after the pointless charade about wanda's murder no longer had any reason to be continued. The x-men public team being mostly hot is kind of weak criticism since they're literally intentionally intended to be partially a propaganda tool. If it were setting up some rl cult or special interest community I'd build it around a group of gigachads and stacies too, it reduces infighting and gives you a natural effortless magnetic in group loyalty. Saying they're whiny doesn't hold up when you have shit like domino getting skinned alive.

Yeah. I can see the Asian in him because I know, but if I didn't, I don't think I would. I mean, Hickman is fully white but looks like he could be half Asian.

The x-men are such jerks

I don't know why Toad is still a bad guy. He rebelled against Magneto after all the abuse eventually, and he feel like he should be one of those goofy "b-level" superheroes.

he hasn't been a villain for 20 years since m-day, still a weird creep though.

My Prof X can walk and my Dr Doom only has a slight scratch on his face. Simple as.

Trouble is that the 'X-Men' are literally named after him. If Charles becomes openly villainous then why would any non-villain team keep on using the 'X-Men' label?

I keep seeing the term 'neurotypical' thrown around in progressive spaces so I presume Kingsley is there because he is a psychopath?

Also, where is Legion? Sentry? Scream? They are all canonically fucked in the head in severe ways.

Pretty fucking ablelist, Marvel.

But that's to be expected as just like how the Avengers only use token Muties to look good, they are only using those with physical/visual disabilities to look good--performative allyship at its finest...

Yeah if you notice, the roster they chose are people who's disability doesn't really hinder their everyday life. Where they're basically disabled in name alone, and apeparance, but in terms of their every day life, Misty Knight does not struggle at all. How can she with a cool robot arm? Matt Murdock literally doesn't struggle with his blindness, his powers make him practically able to see and he has to pretend he can't see in order to keep people off his scent that he's Daredevil. But he knows exactly what's in front of him.

Reed and Cyclops already fill that niche.
