>Shrek was the first movie directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson>after the huge success of Shrek, Andrew went to direct Shrek 2 and Vicky went to direct Shark TaleWho was the more talented director?
>>153479247Jenson has taken on more challenges than Adamson. A quick look at their careers, you'll see that Jenson has worked in far more departments on far more productions and post Shrek, has worked on a variety of different types of films. Adamson has really only worked on Shrek and Chronicles of Narnia. If we're talking about what properties saw more succeess, Adamson has the edge there, but I'd argue that once an IP is in motion, keeping that plate spinning is a much easier task than starting something new every time.Who is more talented is a matter of opinion. I know that the thread is set up to lift up Adamson and shit on Jenson, but while Adamson has had more overall public and financial success, Jenson faced the harder path which is arguably more admirable.
>Prince of Egypt (1998/Brenda Chapman)>Shrek (2001/Vicky Jenson)>Spirit (2002/Lorna Cook)>Shark Tale (2004/Vicky Jenson)>Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011/Jennifer Yuh Nelson)Why did it take so long for DreamWorks to make another film with a woman director?
>>153479926Lorna was a director on HTTYD in early stages of development
>>153479926Probably because aside from Shrek those are some pretty bad movies. Especially Spirit
Good story

It's a shame how DreamWorks has always lived under Pixar's shadow. Critics are always comparing themhttps://www.dvdreview.com/2005/02/shark-tale/
shrek is boring
>>153481771Like anything, it needs to be viewed in the context of it's time. Subversive fairy tales weren't nearly as common as they are now. When Shrek came out, a lot of people had Disney type expectations for how a fairy tale would be told. The film poked fun at that, subverted expectations, and provided what was then a fresh spin on the fairy tale genre. It may seem boring now because it spawned countless copycats and now all the things the film did are common enough to be overused tropes, but the film initially blew up so massively because at the time it was something different.
>Toy Story>Antz>A Bug's Life>Toy Story 2>ShrekReminder that Shrek was the fifth movie in history to be 100% computer animation that got a worldwide theatrical release
>>153483346Pic related was the sixth one. It didn't do well, unlike what came before
