Yes, Millennials were seen as being the first generation that would get to live life without having to grow up with the threat of nuclear annihilation dangling over their heads and were heading into an era of unprecedented economic growth and prosperity in a world where people felt like they could finally try to resolve the little things now that the Cold War was over. There was a genuine sense that they were the generation that would be able to do anything and had truly insane opportunities laid before them in a world that was both more open and more united than ever before. 9/11, the Bush years, the rise of the internet, and the Global Financial Crisis in 2008 really fucked them up.
