I love Francis
I don't think she's autistic. She's just neat.
>>
>>153484086
Her show deserved better.
>>
>>153484425
seriously.
it was too fucking smart for 2020s CN. but in fairness, it was advertised fucking horribly.
But then again it also aired on streaming first, and there's no way to lead there via ads.

hi Stuart Snyder.
>>
>>153484425
>>153485042

What was their strategy here

>Premiere it on cable first
>delay the Disney+ release from Spring till Summer
>>
>>153485681
oh wait that's right, i had it backwards didn't I

i mean that's how it's SUPPOSED to work. get the tv audience ... then stream it later. but their 'later' was wayyy too late.

in any case, remind me to re-recap some episodes at some point.
>>
don't stugo away yet!
>>
>>153484086

Hard to believe that this is her voice actress.
>>
>>153484425
>Her show deserved better.

So it really is over?
>>
>>153488282
people underestimate actors' ranges all the time
the whole point of voiceover is nobody cares if you're gonna make chris farley look like he lived to 90 by comparison. You can just PLAY nonfat.
>>
>>153488299
sadly, despite it being confirmed renewed, it was also confirmed canceled.
>>
>>153485042
Neither of those was true. The show premiered on cable first and was put on streaming afterwards so it got time to have weekly threads for each episode. At least after the first few were released two at a time. Disney also put out a lot of commercials for it on it's channel and socials. It must have worked to some extent considering for a bit we got that renewal. But something must have happened behind the scenes that stopped that.
>>
>>153488547
i didn't say the advertising was too sparse, I said it was lousy. It did not represent the show at all, just made it look like wacky bullshit.
and I already said I got mixed up about the streaming vs cable thing
>>
Okay let's see
rewatching PANTelevision. I remember this one being a dang hoot.

>I love how they somehow have gigantic bacon for the gigantic dog, to wrap around his gigantic pill, yet none of the three are remotely in scale with each other, leaving the pill comically unbaconcovered.
>You can see the artist kinda struggling to draw Mr. OK's suit interior properly without it being a huge pain in the ass.
>He emphasizes the T in PANT, Pant Television, which isn't what it says.
>It's amazing how this does Interdimensional Cable better than everything past the first time rickenmorty did that.
>Francis really likes to see the bizarre show where Chicho just messes with a bucket of slop in an ostensibly relaxing way.
>It's a little weird seeing a chimp mutant before meeting Bakey Potatey, but in fairness we did see him sometime back when they were putting on that play. It's just a little oddly redundant.
>Catapult Kevin's hilariously detailed fish mouth really shows what these artists are into.
>Larry likes the kiss cam a lot.
>One of the cheerleader fish in the teen drama spoof is just randomly wearing big fucking cargo pants like they just ran out of pink skirts.
>Big Mitchell's gigantic centipede motorcycle is fucking terrifying and I wish it showed up more.
>I'm not sure when the TV got re-plugged, given that Mr. OK was kinda out of there in a flash, and the plug leads out the door.
>I'm glad Tara gets to have a music career instead of just doing acrobatics shows.
>The red toads are fucking dead on accurate to real ones that I've fucking drawn before.
>I need to know what The Hole is about. Dammit, uncancel this show!
>I love that everyone's ribbing of Chip for having a pig with a crush on him is very affectionate, and he shows a humble pride from it. How many shows today would do that?
>Really hoping the rhino doc didn't actually refer to the clam as 'they.' Presumably multiple people have died. The bit with the boat still fucking slays me.
>>
>>153489447
>Sarah and Chip are at least smart enough to try eating things from the garbage that are actual food, albeit Sarah's is still in the box. Francis, you're gonna be sick from that fish. I'm sorry.
>the basking shark mutant.. see? who fucking includes basking sharks in anything? Nobody.
>Catapult Kevin is such an amazing running gag.
>Pretty sure Frogatha shouldn't have that throat pouch thing as a girl, but frogs.. frogs get weird sometimes.

I wish there were more episodes of this show. thank you for letting me remember it.
>>
I will miss these little shits so much... But especially Merian and Francis.

This show was delightful. The charm of Merian and Francis go without saying, but I particularly loved Sara(h), she was just so fun and was the biggest pleasant surprise of the entire show for me. Love the idea of her and Larry having 'something there', that they could become 'a thing'.
>>
How old is she meant to be, OP?
>>
>>153490250
One of the few shows where I can say the whole main cast genuinely had merit.
>>
>>153490400
NTA but absolutely, only "weak" character was Pliny and that's mostly due to her eps being driven by a central conflict outside of something she did. Plus she makes up for it with decent foot game.
>>
>>153490924
I'd agree. And it's particularly surprising since the promo stuff for this show made it seem like/made me assume that she was going to be the MC and leader of the group, that the series would primarily center on her. Yet then she turned out to be the least noteworthy character.
>>
>>153488321
Why do people get pissed at the idea of big-name celebrity actors doing voice acting?
>>
Remember how much fanart Merian was getting for a while there? That was good shit..
>>
>>153484369

>>
>>153490250
>Love the idea of her and Larry having 'something there', that they could become 'a thing'.
Bump for 'Sarry'.
>>
>>153490924
She did suffer a bit maybe for having to be the main group leader in some episodes instead of doing her own thing as much as the others
>>
>>153490933
>>153494456
Yeah she really suffered a lot with being pushed as the quirky MC, not really allowed to have more going for her the way the others do. Did appreciate all her lore though, especially shit like the dolphin forums or her almost getting eaten by her cousin's(?) snake.

That's usually the best way to release a show. It's how they usually save the shows they seem to value more. Much better than just dumping all at once.

People are too fucking stupid to understand nuances, so they latch onto the surface-level aspects of various viewpoints at random

Look into the actual discussion, not the retards. listen to some voice actor podcasts, actually. There's a lot of great ones. Butch Hartman has one too

I think it worked, it made her simpler idiosyncrasies shine through fantastically. She was fun doing nature watches with the tar-mummy guy.. she was a little less fun insisting on doing animal studies with Lullah, but that was still a good one. Pliny cares about shit, and no-sells a lot of bullshit. She's the one you want on your side during the hard times.

The 2 Sara(h)'s make me really love the idea of a scene where one walks up and is like 'Larry, I've thought about this a lot, and I like you, I like like you.' *Kisses him and quickly walks away*. Then like a minute later the other Sara(h) walks up and is like 'I've thought about this a lot, and I've gotta get this off my chest, sorry Larry but I don't like you. There I said it. So forget about it.' *Slaps him and storms off*

Time to rewatch Infinity Braid. Not sure what actual new stuff I'll notice

>Larry's legs ALSO do the disappear-into-the-void thing, so I guess it's not just girls. Fun.
>as badly mangled as poor Chip ended up, his hair is doing some cool shit on top. he should style it that way when it grows back, instead of that weird kinda half pompadour half Daria thing he has going
>I think Merian legitimately won't share the water because it's meant for eyes. She's not being mean, just very very uptight.
>very clever how the camera cuts away during the wet willy. but Francis saw it.
>I like how consistent they've been about Pliny's terrible penchant for extremely strained, and often Italian-American-adjacent, puns.
>Sara's hair actually looks cute without the poodle part, just little puffs. It also looks good combed out. also the Leia buns below the clock. Hella cute. And when the floor buffer's being used. Basically every style other than her normal one.
>hehehe. Dog do's. Underrated gag.
>So since Sara has barely been here, and Francis is nearly to the heads, does that mean.. Sara's not even in it yet?
>Sara's hair circle thing, when it's tilted back, is clearly a skewed version of the upright drawing.. but that's okay.
>Just now realizing that the hair time tunnel thing brings back a WOOLLY mammoth. It's thematically appropriate!
>It's nice how none of the other kids are possessive about their positions and stuff. They're just happy for each other. Only Sara has problems.
>I wonder how much of the episode's budget went to that elaborate mammoth drawing. Every piece of fur has individual movement bones.. It even has fucking warts.
>Ah yep, Sara's body isn't in the painting at all. They really paid attention while making this.

waaa, I love this fuckin thing. I hope this same team gets a new show.

Yeah some bangs/hairs sticking forward would really go a long way. Not that I don't think she already looks good, she looks better with that full-pullback 'worst ponytail style' than any other character I can think of off the top of my head.
>>
>>153506403
Yeah. Precisely. That guy.

Respect.
>>
>>153506452
indeed, and part of that I think is just how balanced her design is. Many things about her shouldn't work, but they did it just enough. If you take her at face value, she either HAS bangs, that are just plastered against her head, or she has a very low hairline. But either way, for someone with a literal lightbulb head, she doesn't have that much cranium. Because her eyes are large and her nose is placed decently high, eating up the space that would often be a big ugly fivehead on others.
>>

I'd have liked to have seen her actually let her hair down once. Like actually let it loose instead of it being blown to the side like it was that one time. But it also feels like it fits her character a lot that she never dropped her ponytail.
>>
>>153506523
even the leg fertilized with her DNA sprouted a ponytail. That was hilarious.

>>
>>153498746
So what are the actual discussions about? There could be bad examples like in Invincible where they spent top dollar on VAs and even when they act their heart out in the booth the animation is so underfunded that you just get unemotive static boring shots. For big budget movies, it does make sense sometimes because they already have great visuals and everything else. But at some point it's just bad budget management if it hurts the ability to create a best product.

>>153506717

>>
>>153506565
Never cutting loose is so engrained into Merian that even her DNA is uptight. It was a great joke for her and character bit.
>>
>>153506717
Basically the discussion usually goes like this, with one voice actor talking to another
>Studios think a big name draws in crowds, not realizing it's because that big name is talented, and when put into a fitting role, does amazing work. They themselves are not putting in the work, they're just matching up 'name make money'
>What people actually want is the voice they know is familiar, the person who knows the character, and (most importantly) an actor who knows how to use their voice. A lot of live actors don't. It's easier (or at least much more convenient and less time-wasting) in a lot of ways, but harder in others. Some of them say it's like trying to act with your hands tied behind your back.
>Such and such live actor made a fantastic transition into voiceover, because some can do both. it's a lot more rare for it to go the other way, but here's blah blah one or two examples blah blah.

One that comes to mind was that live-action 'Christopher Robin' movie that I assume was fucking dismal. Of COURSE they were gonna use Jim Cummings as Pooh, because nobody else can Pooh, but they tried to celebrity stunt-cast Tigger... and Jim's miffed, but keeps his mouth shut.. then they come back to him later and say "uh that guy's not working, please do Tigger for this movie."
>>
>>153506717
I'm happy to hear someone point that out
Idiots ree about celebrity voices in Invincible, but they really are fantastic actors. If you're right for the role, you're right for the role.
Budgets do sadly exist though. I'm reminded of how in Gargoyles, they wanted Patrick Stewart as Macbeth, but his agent asked for too much money.
Frakes and Sirtis offered to talk to him, but Greg Weisman thought it'd be a bad idea to mix business and friendship like that. Like what if Sir Pat doesn't LIKE doing voiceover?
Turns out a couple years later, he fucking loves it. But John Rhys-Davies did an amazing job as Macbeth anyway

>The stylised red-white-black-teal at the beginning is pretty swell, I wonder if it's based on anything specific.
>Fucker went STRAIGHT for the nips.
>Lullah's coffee is fucking coal black.
>I wish Merian had put on more than Justice's blindfold. The whole outfit would look nice on her.
>Merian actually uses an incorrect, hypercorrected "and I" that should have been "and me" there... It was an object-first sentence.
>I missed the first time that Potatey blames the 'baleful radiation of the moon' for his mutation... That's.. is that a DBZ reference? Also he was a cartoon brown-furred chimp when he went in, and now he's fuckin gray. Poor guy.
>Chip's tie must be pinned to his skin. That's dedication.
>Love Sara having one handcuff on, just so we know why she wasn't chosen as the lawyer.
>They kind of telegraphed the climax here. Twice.
>Cutting open a VHS cassette does not actually render it unplayable.. also WOW that film was under pressure.
>They used a nice cheap technique to make it look like the film is piling up without having to keep redrawing the whole thing
>the padding on Potatey's knuckles, especially when he's headpatting Merian, makes me think these artists have actually interacted with chimps
>Charlyne Yi's performances are still so cute. She has the cutest damn voice
>Meanwhile, Francis doing quiet sound effects over the video is really really cute.
>Bakey Potatey walks like a cat, same-side-limbs at a time. Very odd. Or maybe apes always did that and I never noticed.
>That sinister "ooh ooh ah ah ah" spoken like words is so priceless. That's why they repeated it. Adding the banana-cigar only made it better.
>Crazy that Potatey's voice was the same before he mutated, too. He was a babbu chimp at the time.
