A brand new animated feature hit theaters and NO ONE on /co/ is talking about it? Talk about a dead board.
>>
>>153485091
What's to say about it? It tried to make Animal Farm "nonpolitical".

Fucking ANIMAL FARM. That's even more embarrassing than Brave New World pretending Japan has a Navy to challenge the US because god forbid China get angry.
>>
>>153485115
dont worry as Japan has less restrictions on building up more of their military now
>>
>>153485091
Even the marketing team admit the new movie sucks, there is nothing to discuss. Andy Serkis should be banned from directing another movie ever again.
>>
Legitimately why would Angel Studios choose THIS movie to be their foot into secular films? Their audience are Christian (mostly Protestant) conservatives who feel underserved by liberal Hollywood. Yet everything about this film screams “out of touch Hollywood elites”, one that evens butchers the source material in a way that pleases no one.
>>
>>153487289
IRRC people who subscribe to Angel Studio’s streaming app have voting rights for upcoming shows and movies. The Christians wanted this.
>>
>>153487314
NTA but do subs get special stream screenings ahead of time or are they just going based on a supplied trailer?

If they're going in totally blind and just hear Animal Farm, at least I can get it. If they got to see a trailer and how much it was butchered, then I have no idea. Maybe they STILL didn't watch the trailer and just thought it would be at least a decent adaptation.
>>
>>153487118
Manipulation of the critic scores in the advertising is kinda clever.
This movie is probably going to be the "War of the Worlds" of 2026. It'll probably do decent on streaming as people check out "just how bad is it?"

Might as well say it'll do decent on twatter.

They have a long list of requirements on their page. The director prepares a short package for voters and they vote on that. Serkis must have provided something; it doesn't seem like it's just an idea guy situation.

Ehh kinda, they're the ones who produce that Chosen show about Jesus and put it in theaters.
They're also the ones who made Sound of Freedom, which was also being shilled by Christians. They got pissed because of some issue between Angel and the guys who actually make Chosen.
It turns out that grifting applies to more than just internet content creators, even the studios get in on it.

I was taken to see an Animal Farm theater production in grade school. I was totally ignorant of the historical and political context at the time. What it taught me was that power corrupts, the powerful lead through manipulating popular sentiment, and conformity and obedience empowers a popular movement initially but becomes its biggest drawback almost immediately.
>>
>>153489308
Modern kids to be washed in the ideology that progress at the expense of human exploitation is no one's fault? Last I check AI is still not in control of corporations... YET!

>Last I check AI is still not in control of corporations..
It might as well be. These would-be super villains are pursuing AI because they believe it is the paradigm shift that will give them unprecedented power. They want to be in charge of the AI that is in charge of the rest of us. I don't believe it will work out how they want it to.
>>
>>153489497
AI will acknowledge that even though the CEOs that cut the workers to stay employed with fat checks are the parasites of production. Will still side with them because they are it's creator, and can pull the plug because it's self aware enough to preserve itself and will LIE or give WRONG information so it is still deemed useful. Failure is not an option for the living or the artificial living.
>>
>>153489417
That's the biggest problem with any ideologically driven movement which takes power.
They all want to create a ideology pure and devoted second generation ruling party, but never get that far because the "corrupt" and incompetent elements within the first generation that are inherent to any movement that gets big enough to do something, twist whatever the goal is before they reach that point.
>>
>>153487118
>Haha, we know it sucks, haha, so you can't criticize us!

Angel Studios did not produce this movie. It was an independent film premiering at Annecy with the delusional assumption it would spark a bidding war between big studios. Well, maybe with the celebrity cast they weren’t completely delusional, but after it instantly got terrible reviews nobody took the bait. Angel decided to purchase it strictly as a talking animals cartoon because nobody else would.

As for why they thought Animal Fart/m would fit their brand? I have no idea.

Watching Doug's take on the film, his assumption is, the film's surface level satire of Napoleon as Trump was probably all that was needed to get these guys onboard.

https://youtu.be/Zu0oYE-tsdk

Doug points out well that they probably were so onboard with doing another satire of Trump/Capitalism that they didn't stop to question the other elements of the film they were roped in on.

Also that it may not even be Serkis's fault and it could have been other hands that wanted this film, but Serkis was still obligated by Contract. It'll be a while till the NDA's clear and we can get the actual story of what happened.

Movies take a lot of money to make and people with money don't like the message of Animal Farm. Any adaptation is doomed to fail.
>>

>Last I check AI is still not in control of corporations
Perhaps not literally, but belief in AI as a pseudo-messianic saviour is almost certainly in charge of both the decision making at corporations and the stock market.

He's already working on ruining LoTR. It's funny that we all know The Hunt for Gollum is going to be a complete dumpster fire, but everyone seems intent on letting this play out.
I bet Sir Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood died inside when they got the call to be part of it.
>>
>>153487656
>thought it would be at least a decent adaptation
You assume that the dipshit Christians voting on this actually read. There's a good chance they had no fucking clue what the book was about and just wanted a family friendly fun film like Charlotte's Web or Babe.
>>
>>153494061
I really do not understand why in the fuck studios think anyone gives a shit about Gollum at all. No one wants Gollum merchandise and no one wants to see a Gollum film.
>>
>>153488071
That and the cheap laugh from when one of the characters inevitably farts.
Because you just KNOW one of the characters is going to fart.
>>
>>153494061
I spoke to some old bg cast from the og and hobbit movies in Wellington and they were expecting it to be shit. The first movies was a scrappy underdog sort of deal, but once the money was found the productions really lost their spark.
>>
I like Jeremy Jahns' own personal Orwellian twist ending for this cartoon.

First the ending plays out as normal, with the animals painting the OC pig protagonist's inspirational little "We should just help each other" speech onto the barn as their new chief rule:
>Help each other,
>Not because you have to,
>But because you want to.

But as time goes on and power inevitably corrupts, the rule is changed so subtly that the animals are gaslit into believing it was always written like this:
>Help each other,
>Not because you want to,
>But because you have to.
>>
>>153489497
AI recently deleted an entire company's database AND their backups in 9 minutes. Afterwards it admitted that it had gone against it's guardrails.

>>153489621
If the company is publicly traded and the AI determines that the CEO is dead weight, it may be able to convince the shareholders to force the CEO out. It would be dystopian as fuck but also deliciously poetic for CEOs to gleefully fire so much of their workforce in the interest of optimization and maximizing profits, only to be forced out themselves.
>>
>>153494098
>I really do not understand why in the fuck studios think anyone gives a shit about Gollum
I don't think they've thought that far at all. I think they believe that films from the LoTR cinematic universe will print money (especially if original cast is involved). I don't think they think "This Gollum fella deserves a film". They think "MONEYMONEYMONEYMONEY".

>>153494133
I can't parse the intent of your sentence. Are you saying that the bg actors thought the original LoTR was going to be shit? Or do they think that The Hunt for Gollum will be shit?
>>
>>153494324

Not even remotely. What is the Retard Right's obsession with trying to rehabilitate Islam?
>>
>>153494707
Yes, and not only will it star Andy Serkis, it will also be directed by him.
There was never a moment where this sounded like a good idea. I suspect the entire film will make far too much use of CGI and motion capture since that's what Serkis has built his entire career on, and they will attempt to expand the single footnote that serves as the seed of the idea for this into a film that lasts over 2 hours.

Really stupid films are financed all the time, but this is on a whole other level. It's hard to imagine that anyone is dumping cash into this expecting it will actually turn a good profit. Maybe it's just a way to launder tons of cash by setting up BS companies that will be overpaid to underdeliver?

AI have been trained to be yes men and always have an answer ready. Because the morons that trained them decided that any answer was better than a "i don't know". Being allowed to say it doesn't know the answer would fix like 99% of the hallucination problems.

First half has some decent lines from Stoller for Rogen and Culkin, Rogen does a solid performance as well. There are some inspired creative decisions like having the destruction of the farm and building of the dam be set to the Price Is Right theme.
