In AtLA, bending played a crucial role in how the four nations constructed their cities. Air nomads made fortresses in hard-to-reach areas and traveled nomadically. Waterbenders and Earthbenders used their bending to sculpt buildings out of their environment. Firebenders used theirs for melting their metal casting, which likely predates the hundred year war given the use of metal in the Fire Nation capital. (Refined) firebending is the only one that lacks any definitive and immediate use in a post-apocalyptic setting because the other three have immediate uses for maintaining and keeping refined since they provide a need. A couple dudes Earthbending aj entire city sounds really fuckin' useful for maintaining survival in a low-resource setting.
