I feel like a lot of people jumping on the wagon of calling out everything about to happen as retarded or preventable doesn't really grasp the comic as-is.I hate to give Kirkman any credit, but the entire comic so far has put a focus on how power divides people and their perceptions. It's a theme that's constantly present across the vast majority of the arcs. At the center of it is Mark, who gradually has his connection to the ground eroded despite him initially fighting against the idea, whether it's something small like Eve's "they don't look up" comments or as big as Nolan's words on Viltrumite leadership.Him walking down this path, after being bumped up to the scale of galactic affairs and having his perception be disconnected even further, makes something like teaming up with Dinosaurus inevitable. He was always gonna end up in the world of looking at the bigger scale, and sitting down with an actual team of inventors and environmentalists just never in the cards, retarded or not.Like there's a point as to why Kirkman writes Mark to say that he would've completely missed Gravytator if he wasn't empowered and scaling around in his world, and then his work would've just completely faded into obscurity without helping people. That's just how it is now that he--or really anyone else at his level--is now they he's at this point.
