Can you even pitch this show through conventional means, like a normal pitch bible and doing a board presentation in front of people? How would you describe the premise? What type of humor is it?

I think "meta humor" and "jokes the 13 year olds watching this at night won't get for 15 years" describe this show.

That's pretty much why the detective angle was tacked on at first. The execs couldn't grasp a series that boiled down to "food lives in New Jersey and weird shit happens to them."
>>
Just say it's dialogue-driven humor

My first episode was Super Bowl. I nearly pissed myself laughing when Boxy Brown showed up.

The non squiter humor is what really made it successful. I remember one of my college friends hated it. But I liked it.

The closest show I could compare this to in terms of plot structure would be Space Goofs, and even that has more of a definitive hook and formula (Aliens live in the attic of a rental house and have to deal with whoever’s in it that episode) Both shows have shit just kind of happen to the main cast and you never really know what kind of situations or characters they’ll encounter.

there's like 5 episodes in the entire show where they do detective work, still would buy this

it was home movies but with supernatural shit going on at the same time.

trying to pitch metalacalypse seems harder. only reason it got approved is because it was by the same guy who did home movies.

I'd go for Total Recarl next time, quintessential episode.

in the early seasons the dialogue is improvised and the animation is lazy/shitty on purpose because of that. only later seasons they stopped improvising and the animation got better as a result.

Aqua Teen really isn't that complicated of a premise to sell to people. It's obviously a character-driven comedy, and when pulling up practically any random episode, the main cast's roles become apparent: you've got the loudmouth troublemaker, the voice-of-reason, and the impressionable third one caught in the middle of their conflicts.

It's got loads of surreal humour, sure, but at its core, you'll find pretty familiar comedic dynamics.

I do enjoy the episodes where Frylock actually ends up being the one to fuck things up because he gets too comfortable in the position of always being right.
