shock-slop comics died in the early 2000's, so why are these so successful today? was it a mistake for marvel/dc to stop doing this?
Invincible is just American DBZ, nothing else to it
>>153498851>the boys>Invincible>successful
>>153498986Nope
>>153498851>Successful>Amazon burning money that would've been lost to taxes on shows "reimagined for modern audiences">Nobody really looks forward to watching it>Bunch of YouTuber parasites make videos like "the entire Invincible story until now">Retards show up thinking this means it's successful Let me guess OP. Your hands are brown.
>>153499504>>153499020NTA, just a passerby but How would you define "successful"? I take it as long as a show isn't canned mid way through a story it's successful concidering how easily shows get canceled most of the time. I am not saying either show is good but what does it have to do to be successful since this isn't like video games where you can point to copies played or movies where tickets are sold and since they are ok streaming we can't even see the exact number of viewers
>>153498986Why do people say this when it has literally nothing to do with DBZ beyond the Viltrumites being shitty saiyan knockoffs?
>>153498986True
>>153498851It's conservatism being on the rise again where they openly shit on old school superman for using his powers for the betterment of all mankind and think people like Lex Luthor is the real hero. Not shocking they want superman, but a selfish asshole.
>>153499630>Why do people say this when it has literally nothing to do with DBZ beyond the main characters being extremely similar to the other main characters?Hmmm
>>153498851It's cliche to us but refreshing to the normalfagsSimple asThe Boys and Invincible are both decades old comics that finally got an adapted and now suddenly people think they're completely new
>>153499630Shitty, inconsistent power scaling that makes less sense the more you think about it, for one.
>>153498851>shock-slop comics died in the early 2000'sNo it didn't.
>>153498986>Invincible is just American DBZI think DBZ is shit but at least it's fun in a pro wrestling way and managed to influence stuff instead of just being influenced by others. DB doesn't really pretend to be smarter than it is and just delivers on an escalation of fights with a really dumb connective tissue. Invincible is just boring and somewhat annoying because Kirkman can't write and tried to create complex moral questions that ultimately get solved by Mark just outliving all his problems.
>>153499606>I take it as long as a show isn't canned mid way through a story it's successful concidering how easily shows get canceled most of the time. The issue is that this is an early 2000s mindset. Shows had to be successful or else they were canned. For example, uhh I don't remember the name but I'm sure some anon will say it, that cartoon about the school with the super hippie female teacher that did some pole dancing on the gym climbing rope. It had something like 2M viewers, and Fox was like "lmao so few" in 2009 I think, and canned it. Nowadays, however, viewership is not a reason for renwel. Heck, garbage like Amphibia got 3 seasons with 0.5M viewers, for comparison with that other one that got cancelled with 4 times that amount. The only reason to renew a show today is "we got this much money that we must reinvest to avoid paying it in taxes". It doesn't have to be successful. You only need to burn tax money. It's also another reason DisneyTVA died. They ran out of money to burn after Florida went for their parks. So no, anon. I wouldn't say renewals are a sign of success when a show's success is not a factor on whether something gets renewed or not.

>>153498851I think it's deeper than that.I mean why the fuck is pic related something people can relate to?
>>153499020Don't forget Crossed is next
>>153502828If the Crossed Movie SOMEHOW manages to make bank then my disappointment would rival the sun
>>153502895It will probably be like a more edgy 28 days later
>>153501523>>153501491>not an argument
>>153498986If Invincible is American DBZ, then what does that make The Boys?
>>153498851A Superman that can kill people is more interesting than a Superman who can't.

>>153506736Someone commission Bobocomics to do Invincible porn with Thragg pumping up Immortal
>>153498851i know people shit on cuckman for many many reasons some of which very legitimate but invincible has a decent enough story to bring people back to continue watching each season. When it comes to the boys i honestly i cant tell you
Honestly I think it's because people have no fucking taste and are completely retarded now. So they suck up any slop shit.
The Boys and Invincible are both basically soap operas plus blacks/mexicans really enjoy the>it's like dbz except everyone will beat the shit out of you hood styleSo even if there is shock, blood, gore, murder etc. people are watching for the moments where Captain Killgore has a heartfelt moment with his superheroine gf White Pryde about how sad he was to find out she is acutally his mother or some shit but also immortal due to her exposure to Drug Z and that he's sad that the company was mean to him so he had to kill that bus full of orphans. Because he's emotionally complex like that.
>>153507690>sloppaThe Boys and Invincible present two completely separate cases of 'evil Superman' and this is interesting because people aren't necessarily interested in "and then he was a boyscout and a good guy", they want to know how a story with this kind of person would develop if he was not being held back by the need for him to be a force for absolute good. Even My Best Friend Superman or whatever that one show with Korean Lois Lane is called touches on this too with how evil and DBZ-like Kara is being controlled by her 'father' Brainiac who lies to her about Krypton. The Boys takes an inherently negative view on heroes, almost every hero in the show is actually a jackass- basically just a celebrity- using their superpowers to get a fat salary like an NFL player instead of saving people out of the moral good- a cynical worldview. Within this we have the soap opera between Butcher, who is gradually corrupted as his superpowers grow rom prolonged exposure to Compound V and he becomes totally uncompromising, killing his own father to get back at the parent who wronged him while trying to save his stepson as he is the last piece of his wife alive. On the flip side you have Homelander who lashes out at the Company which raised him in a dark mirror- the parents he knew, while trying to build the family he never had by reaching out to the masses of retards who adore him, his biological father Soldier Boy (who is also a cruel jackass, bringing up a further question as to whether his own father- also described as beating him- Soldier boy and Homelander are just bad because the men in their family are bad on a genetic level) and his rape-son Ryan. In his twisted way he 'cares' for Ryan, but only through the lens of a narcissist who needs these things to feel 'complete', the only woman he ever loved being a woman old enough to be his mother (part of his mommy issues) and the possibility she was his biological mother too.
>>153498851>shock-slop comics died in the early 2000's, so why are these so successful today?Because capeshit, after the B2B transactions are done, is a special interest product.
>>153507825
>>153507825All the characters in The Boys basically start out bad and become worse, even ones doing bad things for the 'right' reasons like Butcher eventually use power for the sake of their own gain out of pure spite.Invincible is the flipside of this where Omni-Man is shown to be a great guy, great dad, strong relationship with Mark. Mark is the 'Ryan' of this show, looking up to his father. But like Ryan he finds his dad to be morally lacking, and Omni Man secretly a soldier of a galactic evil empire of superpowered evil supermen. Mark rebels against this, refusing to advance Viltrum's control of the galaxy at the expense of millions of human lives.Omni Man, winning, is disgusted by himself. The conflict here is that internally he is evil superman, but being good superman felt more naturally right to him. So he abandons his post, feeling he failed his family, his empire and the people of earth. Finding new purpose on Thraxa as their emperor, he seeks to make amends with Mark. Because of this the Viltrumite empire discovers that Humans and Thraxans can successfully have Viltrumite offspring- useful for their plans to expand their race's numbers so they can conquer the galaxy and piquing their interest in Mark, whose genetics are high quality. In Invincible the characters given great power, who do evil things with it, then begin to question "why am I evil, what do I actually gain from being evil". COunterbalancing the Boys' cynical take on superheroes, Invincible is grittier but genuinely hopeful- that someone as strong as superman, if evil, would reconsider his life choices and wonder if maybe evil is wrong. And ultimately to seek redemption for the sake of his family, his son, his father. The Boys is interesting because it is dark and misanthropic- that raised without love or care, all heroes would selfishly serve their own gains.Invincible is interesting because it is gritty but hopeful- that even evil beings might question their morality and repent.
>>153507862You don't have to read anything at all, reddit, you can just go back to /r/superman to circlejerk about how superman is great and all superman-clones are shit or whatever.
