Alright, so I’ve read Watchmen and Hellboy. What other collected/finished comics can you recommend that are considered “art”?
>>153499316>Watchmen>Hellboy>"art"Anon, those are the "look how different and special I am" - generic tourist comics
>>153499316They're not Art. They're Vaudeville. Go read V fkr Vendetta, s'where we got Epic Fail Guy.
>>153499316Bone
>reading """""art"""""
>>153499316>I watched Godfather and Alien, what other movies can you recommend? What genres do you like? What styles of art? Did you like Watchmen/Hellboy, would you not want to try more stuff by those creators? Hellboy is part of a universe, there are spin offs like BPRD which are pretty good. Alan Moore has done plenty of good work: Marvel Man (Miracle Man), Swamp Thing, V for Vendetta etc.

>>153499473>>153499472double kek>>153499479Not really, it is just an example of some shit . You shouldn't take every image literally.
>>153499362Cope
>>153499316All comics are art you fucking weirdo.
>>153499447Man the hate on that Will Eisner comic just because the jew ain't the bad guy, nor rape any kids
>>153499456Swamp Thing caught my eye, but I’m hesitant to read it because the character seems ingrained in DC’s greater world as some arbiter of plant justice and godliness. I get Watchmen also had crossover stuff with the Justice League, so I guess I can just keep my Swamp reading to only Moore? How is Sandman?
>>153499481Sim is pro-feminism for like the first 150 issues though. Pro-gay for like the first 200 probably.
>>153499558ewwwwwwwww
>>153499533Swamp Thing was rather seperate from the mainline DC universe initially and was the forerunner for the eventual creation of the Vertigo line. Alan Moore radically changed the character near the start of his run. Whilst the first issue ends out a previous arc, you can read his run and pick up a bunch of it fine without having to interact with the greater world.>How is Sandman? It draws on a lot of mythology, folklore, religion, tragedy, comedy to weave a story about the Endless, a group of supernatural deity like beings. I enjoyed it. Recommended for a reason. (Gaiman has been cancelled for rape allegations recently.)
>>153499316I've read most of the "artsy" comics, and they kinda blow. For my actual favorites, read Planetary or Brightest Day instead.
>>153499645Do not read Lost Girls unless you have a strong stomach
>>153499666>Brightest Day instead.>666Great bait m8
>>153499601Grow a pair.
>>153499691>no u
>>153499645Having Caesar rape Augustus is some peak historical revisionism.
>>153499645>Swamp Thing was rather seperate from the mainline DC universe initiallyHe hangs out in the fucking Crisis on Infinite Earths. He meets New Gods and Green Lanterns. He and Etrigan are working towards a common cause which kills Zatanna's dad. Remember Batman and Superman? Swamp Thing sure does.
>>153499533>What genres do you like? What styles of art?Just dumping you into books without answering questions is how people often burn themselves out of the medium, rather than appreciating its merits. What is considered "art" is a loaded question. There is the oft recommended (Sandman/Watchmen). There is stuff people might consider more "pretentious" (Maus, biographical books etc). There is the stuff people simply enjoy. Just reading the cliff notes of the shit recommended in a bubble will get you the same answers. Whilst actually saying what you like might get you some tailored answers. Then you should do some exploration yourself, those creators, who inspired those creators, etc.
>>153499645Why do people act like Alan Moore is some philosophical genius when he's just an autist who likes what-if stories and applies them to the real world?
>>153499744Now you've scared him off. Man could have eased into it.
Man this Will Eisner comicI remember storytiming it, I remember their butthurt how it contradicted everything they were buildingI remember feeling that it came from another world like a future world after all the wave of discrimination and hateLike it knew things that we were yet to experience
>>153499811>I remember storytiming it, I remember their butthurt how it contradicted everything they were buildingwhat
>>153499815It was like a punishment from god, made to expose all their hatemongering racism
>>153499884what are you even talking about
>>153499758>Why do people act like Alan Moore is some philosophical genius when he's just an autist who likes what-if stories and applies them to the real world?Huh, I never said he was a genius in my post at all? Let me get to the point anon, Alan Moore made some good work. There is stuff of his I like and dislike to varying degrees, He is not "the best creator ever" but he is certainly not the worst. Watchmen is accessible and good so gets recommended a lot. Unfortunately people can't see Moore's work for what it is because of the various narratives around Moore, many of which are massively skewed, which completely colour people's retroactive view of his work. A lot of people don't really dive into his work properly, whilst other people just paint it with a broad brush. There is merit there but of course there is plenty of criticism to be had.Moore is a pretty chill dude, happy to write his novels the Long London series. I have met him and he was incredinbly pleasant. Many people say how nice and soft spoken he is. He has a sardonic wit and a lot of his humour goes over people's head. One interview had people mentioning the V for Vendetta movie to him and he was super polite to them. BUT a bunch of professional relationships did break down and around the Watchmen movie Moore got very angry with DC and people still endlessly take those quotes out of context (Moore was angry that he felt DC exploited his friend's brother's terminal illness in dealings with him). I don't want to turn this into another Moore meme argument thread, but the memes are just dumb. He is not a genius, he is a pretty alright dude, he has had some dumb moments like everyone, he is human, he made some good books.
>>153499899i wasn't talking about you, broyour image is about things alan moore likesand it seems like a bunch of random what if nonsense, like his own works
>>153499316>Alrightno, no. not alright, it's alwrong
>>153499911>i wasn't talking about you, broSure, but I just think a lot of this shit around Moore is bullshit.>your image is about things alan moore likesBecause it is fun to see works that creators like or might have inspired them as part of a way of exploring the medium.>and it seems like a bunch of random what if nonsense, like his own worksIt is just a bunch of different recommendations with his musings on them. I find exploring the medium fun and part of the hobby for me, not just reading but finding new things. You can, just read the big titles, the stuff that gets endlessly recommended or you can look at things differently. Read works by a creator you like, read works they liked, leapfrog across different people, opinions and stuff to find stuff you might like. Dunno why that is a problem for you.
>>153499890/co/ secret filesAnon versus the stormweenies
Might jump into Sandman then. Is this boxed set a good way to go? I heard it doesn’t include some Death spinoff.
>>153500234>Absolutes, most expensive, prestige format, 7 volumes including the Death one.>Sandman omnibus editions, three volumes, with the first two collecting the main series and the last one collecting everything else.>That box set collects everything bar some extras like the Death stories etc.>Deluxe editions, annotated editions, new TPB editions. If you have money to burn, Absolutes, if you want everything, Omnis, if not, go for that box set.
>>153500346Just get the box set and the Death stuff seperately as the cheapest option btw.
>>153500234always remember to try before you buy anon
