Everyone talks about how the early episodes/seasons/season 1 of Ed, Edd n Eddy and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends felt different and less mean-spirited/cynical.But, how come no one talks about how the early episodes of Billy & Mandy felt this way? The Grim & Evil (2001-2003) episodes felt different and less cynical/mean-spirited.Many times, the plots were simple (Grim gets a girlfriend, Grim turns human, Billy and Mandy take Grim to school, etc.) or standard cartoon slapstick (like the one where they were in a race).

It's just most threads turn into mandy gooning so people stop.But overall, yes the show did feel vastly different in the original seasons. It felt like billy wasn't as stupid and more just a average dumb boy. Mandy was less overbearingly evil and more just a creepy girl who had a penchant for the macabre. Grim felt more like a evil bastard and was much more clever, and this made it so when he was softer or showed signs of not being as evil as he tried to come off it was a bit humorous. They all gelled together to make a great trio and this also made it so episodes were always quite different and fun. Like the one with billy and his fake mandy, or the creepy neighbor episode. Also fact that many eps had pretty gruesome or dark endings moren than the comedicly dark endings
