Not a lamb. The lamb. Get it?
>>
>>153502177
It's using the Christian symbolism in a less obvious way than the initial cover, which is why it initially got canceled in the first place.

Because it literally shows that Jesus is Lord and is the center of the Universe?

It's the long canceled Swamp Thing #88, which was supposed to come out in 1989, but DC canceled it over concerns over the subject matter and the cover Rick Veitch sent for promo. It's finally been released with a new cover, and they're completing the rest of Veitch's run after he quit in protest.

Whats with wokies and religious and wanting to live in the US but also wanting to completely destroy any sort of creative freedom of expression, if it personally offends them? Does the irony not hit them that they’re not only the same but are the enemies of humanity?
>>
>>153502740
This got canceled before there was any controversy, this was corpos at DC/WB wanting to avoid controversy by releasing the comic and getting negative press right as the '89 Batman movie was about to come out. Corpos were terrified of the potential people picketing in front of movie theaters on Batman's opening weekend with signs saying stuff like "WB hates Christians" or whatever with the image of Swamp Thing's head on the cross with the crown of thorns.

Likely a realistic concern, given the Satanic Panic was running at full steam at the time.

>heh im gonna make this thing that deliberatly offends people
>what noooooooooooooo what do you mean its canceled
you didnt make it to have a statement or meaning you just did it to upset people on purpose its insincere and fake and has no proper meaning.

I thought DC doesn't care about Jesus, considering the comic book industry is an israeli stronghold.

Constantine is mainstream DC though. Explain how that works if Christianity isn't real in DC.

All religious pantheons are real at DC though.
>>
>>153501111
Really the only bit thats offensive is calling Jesus a wizard or alchemist in the story but thats just Swamp Thing's interpretation of what he was seeing.
>>
>>153507461
I never really got stories that try to legitimize all pantheons in existence as legitimate gods cause it just brings a lot of questions of how that universe was created.
a good example would be legitimizing all abrahamic religions: contrary to what low iq athiests think they do not worship the same god. the god of the jews, the god of the christians and the god of the muslims is not fundamentally the same being. He fundamentally takes in different traits personalities ideas of good and his relationship with the messiah and the holy spirit is completly different in all of this religions. is it the same god? a different gods who resemble each other?
leave alone the fact a vast majority of non-pagan religions state their god actively made the world so how does that factor into things.
things were less messy when the presence was considered the only legitimate creator in the universe
>>
>>153507455
He deals with demons from literally Hell and has ran up against literally Satan, and literally God had decided his soul had done penance. I am asking how this character could work within a main DC setting without Christianity being the real thing. Constantine existing with this kind of backstory is proof of God within the setting.
>>
>>153507461
I feel like in both Marvel and DC things they call things 'a god' just to indicate they are powerful. Thor might be powerful and potentially immortal and everything, but he isn't a creator god. Same thing with the gods that prominent in Wonder Woman. Ares and Zeus and everyone are just strong immortal dudes. Darkseid is a 'god' too, but he just sucked god juice from some giant dudes to become a god.

Completely different from "God".
>>
>>153507499
>>153507522
My mind always goes to the Lucifer comics, where their strength is tied to their believers

As the Catholic Church would say.

It's fiction.
Don't overthink it.
As long as YOU don't believe they are gods just have fun and take out the good messages.

uh huh

Yahweh instructs Moses to create an idol of Nehushtan, a snake, out of bronze to cure peopel of snake bites (which were caused by burning flying snakes that Yahweh had dropped on them for funsies, because Yahweh is definitely an all-powerful, all-knowing creator of the universe)

I am asking how this use of idolatry could work within a main biblical setting without sorcery being the real things as in Numbers 21; the same Nehushtan is destroyed by King Hezekiah and named Nehushtan (as a joke to show how worthless it is) as an example of idolatry

They're the same character but written by different authors in different continuities shouldn't be difficult for a comic nerd to understand.
>>
My biggest takeaway from reading this is how different American culture was in 1989 vs 1995.

Think about it, Preacher was Vertigo/DC did WAY WORSE than just say Jesus was an alchemist.
>>
>>153508083
So there you've decided to talk about completely unrelated nonsense. So what you should do there is not do that.
>>
>>153509316
it's entirely related

anon is saying that if Constantine exists in the main DC continuity then the Christian god must also exist and be "the real thing"

but anon clearly doesn't know that "the real thing" resorts to witchcraft by his prophets to cure snakebites he himself caused, and later has this same witchcraft destroyed because it's idolatry - much like the earlier incidence with the golden calf, which, irl, we know was just a symbol of the same god in the old northern cult that was syncretized with the later-dominant southern cult, back when they both kind of visualized him as a master of animals

effectively arguing from a position of near-total ignorance, anon demands his interpretation of modern scripture be given precedence over not only older forms of scripture (which was of course the only reason for destroying the golden calf and much later the Nehushtan) but over modern fictional settings as well, effectively demanding his god be taken seriously while at the precise same time demanding that his god be trivialized and fictionalized

it's idiotic is what is is, boy can't read or something

Vertigo was 1993, but here's the thing: I'm 100% that they would have printed the story AFTER Batman '89.

iirc one of the main reasons why it was cancelled was because the movie the last temptation of christ came out around the same time and it was also very controversial, so DC got cold feet and cancelled it

You're comparing something that happened this year to something that happened 40 years ago.
I remember a few years back, Azzarello thought the most controversial part of Batman Damned would be the page where a statue of Jesus was disfigured to look like The Joker. But no one at all cared about that, and instead the big controversy was when Colbert made fun of them for drawing Bruce Wayne's penis.
