I just learned that AI can create comics now, so I asked it to make one about how Alan Moore changed the character of Swamp Thing, something he discusses in his Storytelling course. What do you guys think?
Page 2
Page 3... it's 5 pages in total
Page 4My bad, it is actually six pages long.
Page 5
Last page.
>>153501610It makes incredibly cardboard panels but is passable
>>153501367>I just learned that AI can create comics nowWhat AI are you using to do this?
>>153502152I used ChatGPT
>>153501610This is awful stuff. I get that this can feel very exciting and novel to have what looks like extremely detailed and fully colored pages churned out very quickly but this is all surface level flashiness. It also feels kind of pointless. You could just listen to or read Moore's storytelling course and look at some snippets from the issue and get more out of that than whatever this is. Don't be fooled by this stuff OP.
meh
>>153501367You fell for the con, OPThis is a parlor trick designed to make you think you're being creative but until you have to expend effort and use a skill, it's bullshitAnd I say this as someone who plays with this on the regular
>>153501610is bad
I just learned AI can take a rancid diarrhea dump right into my toilet, and even better, I have to flush and plunge it.
I just want to clarify that I didn’t actually create these page by page or anything like that. The comics were made by pasting the transcript from that part of the course into an AI prompt and asking it to turn the content into a comic. It created the six pages from a single prompt.I’m not saying this is creative work. I see it more as another way to visualize text as comics, and in that sense, it seems like a decent tool.
>>153502918>>153504671>>153502918>>153504671I agree about the flashiness of the whole thing. It’s well drawn, but it also feels pretty shallow. Still, since it took almost no time to make, it was very cheap in terms of time and effort. I basically just copied and pasted the transcript, and the AI turned it into a whole comic. I found that really interesting, especially because it shows that we now have this possibility.
>>153505153Yeah, congrats, you now have the ability to churn out hollow garbage, aka slop. Thanks for catching up with the rest of us on this shit. Also, it does look like shit in a literal sense, whatever filter the ai used turned it way too dark and brown and splotchy, like actual shit on the page. I don’t quite get how the robot decided that was the motif to go for, but it did.
>>153504904ThisIt's a porno factory for retards
>>153504969>another way to visualize text as comicsBecause this way was apparently too fucking hard or you believe your time is too valuable to acquire a skill Fuck you
>>153501367>>153501610It's not a comic. The text tells your story while the images are just along for the ride.Furthermore, a page layout is supposed to be more than a number of panels with images in them, its organization is also part of the storytelling and pacing of the tale.I'm not saying you're wrong to try, but try something like the two-panel layout of very classic Fumetti first. Look up some classic Diabolik on archive.org or some of the Terror Blu or other B/W italian porn stuff on e-hentai. That's what you should be going for for now. You can't control the colour or layout at a level where it would help your storytelling, so it's better to minimize their use for the time being.
>>153505279>I don’t quite get how the robot decidedIt was a weighted coin toss. It always is.
>>153501367It's sad to see someone shit this garbage and thinking they know how comics works and why people like comics. Embarassing even.
>>153507301The point is, I didn’t even try to make these. Uploading the images to this website took longer than creating them. That was a one shot prompt.
>>153506383To me, it’s like saying someone is too lazy to learn calligraphy just because you're changing fonts in a word processor.I do see the value in making things yourself. It gives the work a soul. But at the same time, a word processor letting you choose different fonts is still an interesting tool.I just thought it was interesting that you could paste in some text and have it generate a comic now.I see the value in both things.
It's kina funny seeing one of these threads not made by an true AI shill. The fact that OP isn't fighting literally everyone for not sucking off the slop spiggot is the real surprise
>>153501764I agree. For an infotainment it really works. I suggest the idea or explaination is more important than what pocs you use.But seeing this, i wouldnt pay anything for it, because it looks cheap.
>>153508166>To me, it’s like saying someone is too lazy to learn calligraphy just because you're changing fonts in a word processor.Analogy is the sign of a weak mind
I didn't used to be racist, but seeing indians actually believe that ai slop like this is tolerable has changed my mind
>>153508336Is almost there, I understand what it's problem is and is very basic, it just draws the scene as it was happening in real time and lose that comicbook freedom It shows every movement of Alan Moore explaining like it would really happen, because yes in reality he would deliver exposition in the same position moving his hands and emotingBut in comic books you are free, he can pour some tea, change positions drastically interrupt himsef to do other things which make the panels less cardboard
>>153508133Yes, we can tell
>>153508360It's possibly the core of cognition, bro.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8m7lFQ3njk
>>153508285I can understand OP.Honestly, you can like AI but not defend every use or problems that comes with it.
>>153508412The problem is that it lacks storytelling, consistency and interesting takes. You will always get just the average, the mid quality. As long as you dont target lower instincts. Just like porn AI, users dont care, they want to see boobs and pussies. Thats why you see AI used for cheesecake, one page splash page female characters.
>>153508561I read american cape comics anon, generic is ok with me I understand that by fishing in the same river you can eventually get really good at fishing, if it only makes informercials it can get art from it, is not the reason for it's comics to exist is the existance it infuses the comics with
>>153501437this is fucking hilarious
>>153508607I'm legit impressed by it but I understand it has problems with compression
>>153508585Generic dont sell, anon. And even what you describe as generic now is compared to AI above generic. The generic comics you mean dont come past issue 4 or changes the creative team after couple issues.

I love how AI is only able to pose characters facing a single direction in 30 degree increments.
>>153509884that is a huge tell, plus the fact every single panel needs to be explained. Good storytelling can also be told by good scenery, expressions, shape language, and gestures. AI can't successfully do any of those well. These don't "pass", if you can tell it was made by AI, it's not very compelling or interesting. Style with no substance.
>>153509715Why would you show off an utterly failed product that isn't even a comic?I mean other than as a way to escape your containment thread?
>>153509927 What do you mean fair project and something I should be the same of I typed in a pump into a machine for free and like 4 minutes later it gave me that you're acting like it's something you should be the same of when you put like so little effort into it just to entertain yourself and possibly others. This is something I made later off of no particular IP.
>>153509848OH BOY I JUST LOVE SEEING A CHARACTER WHOSE CLOTHES KEEP CHANGING BETWEEN PANELS>this is the fingers criticism, it'll get betterFingers were an attention issue solved by more rigorously training models. >>153509989>one is letting the story breatheNarrative is experienced in a linear fashion but usually not crafted that way. LLMs are based off linear algebra and won't "think" about parallelism between panels. The closest you get is in fiction generators where if anyone mentions a book another character will immediately pipe up how the story in it is analogous to the events your player character is experiencing, but that's programmed behavior not instinctive recognition.
>>153510048Wow that was a close shave

>>153518205>It lacks any sort of agency whatsoever.Agency is the capacity to act or exert power. This is unrelated to whether an agent is following orders. Self-determination is not the same thing.
>>153518205Just imagine it a beep that just sounds while you are having a conversation like sayingyep
>>153518568It's agency in the sense it lacks the capacity to operate independent of human input of some form, whether that be direct prompts or programming directives.>>153518606That makes no fucking sense, because of your lack of knowledge you're anthropomorphizing a bunch of code. It would not beep of its own volition, somewhere down the line that beep would have originated from a human-designed directive.
>>153518639I have been looking at ai research since celular automatons, they just do things, sometimes they group up into things, a machine with the capacity to do so will beep, a current machine will beep at weird times is reality for anyone with a phone

>>153518772>Choose to believe whatever you needThat's literally what you're doing, choosing esoteric belief over empirical evidence because you want to believe in some science fantasy fiction instead of the reality of what "AI" (calling it artificial intelligence is technically a misnomer) actually is. I don't believe actual artificial intelligence is impossible in itself but the current models are a dead end to achieving that. Anyone telling you otherwise is a retard or a grifter of which there are many as they both have investment to promote such a narrative.
>>153518860Yes, if empirical knowledge dictates my ai generated algorithm told me this was an ai generated algorithm I say you lost the conciousness race

>>153519036Because I'm familiar with how it operates, I have a bit of knowledge of what goes on under the hood there and it quite literally is a glorified pattern recognizing algorithm. That is my "conclussion" and it has nothing to do with hope or belief. The only people saying it's "alive" or "achieving consciousness" are grifters looking to promote the tech with flashy attention grabbing headlines and offer zero proof. Or worse, you got the new age adjacent fag that actually believe in the crap they're spewing and have more in common with hippies than anything scientific because surprise, surprise, people with little understanding of something can twist it into bullshit psychobabble to agree with whatever schizo thoughts they might have.
>>153519129So you don't believe conciousness include pattern recognition? Is on every theory, why you think they say we don't need a conciousness theory, they read every one and all think this thing has sentient conciousness
