why didnt she just become a mermaid at the end?
>>153509386I dunno, why do mermaids traditionally have the lower body of a fish despite logically being mammals? Mermaids should just be humans that can hold their breath for long periods of time like dolphins.
>>153509401Would the lower end of a whale or dolphin be better?
>>153509386This movie was so ass, original planned sequel script was way better.
>movie about a cute barefoot girlAnd yet /co/ never talks about it.
>>153510145It would make slightly more sense, certainly. At least whales and dolphins are mammals. And no, I don't care that they're fantastical creatures of myth and folklore, mermaids having piscine traits has always been dumb. Especially since they're widely believed to have been inspired by manatee sightings.
>>153510171what was the original?
>>153510174>cuteShe looks just like Prince Eric with a ponytail.
>>153509401I really hate this performative "it makes no sense" stuff, because it is never about actually thinking through the logic and always about pretending to think through the logic. Nobody complains about Ursula being half cephalopod because there is no meme about her specifically, and therefore no I Fucking Love Science clout to be gained from "durr, does anyone know non-mammals aren't mammals????"
>>153510384>Ariel's daughter was in her late teens and is half mermaid meaning that she looks human but can stay underwater for much longer than a regular person>her name also wasn't melody but anna in the first draft and cara in later ones>no separation from the sea kingdom plot>no ursula's long lost sister plot>story has ariel's daughter meeting and falling in love with a young pirate captain who has a personal grudge against eric and being manipulated into helping him exact his revenge>early draft was super grim with eric actually being fatally wounded and dying in the end before it was changedIt's really hard to find the original drafts since the sequel was in development limbo for like a decade but that's the short of it. When they decided to finally push it into production, they made it as kid-friendly as possible and OP was the result.
>>153510541>Nobody complains about Ursula being half cephalopodSpeak for yourself. Why the fuck is she an octopus? Hell, the witch in the original story isn't even a villain, but Disney are a bunch of hacks.
>>153510613oh my god are you also one of those "Wow, I know so much about Greek Mythology, Zeus is a rapist and Hades is the Good Guy!" All of you are genuinely the lowest form of life.
>>153510592Sounds awful and no better at all>>153510613The germanic fairytales they based this movies on are plain evil
>>153510592So the conflict is indirectly about Eric and not anything exploring concepts and consequences of mermaid biology and mythology? Lame.
>>153510715>and not anything exploring concepts and consequences of mermaid biology and mythology?to be fair you can't really go very far into that without veering into body horror territory which for disney princess movies is a definite nonogiven that the original movie was about a villain with a vendetta against king triton and the merpeople makes sense that the sequel would flip it to be about humans instead
>>153509386More importantly, why aren’t her friends on the poster?
>>153510715>>153511656Original anon here, there was actually a bit of exploration of how Anna/Cara's hybrid physiology affects her (for example in one of the drafts the longer she spent on land the more her body would adapt to being more human whilst the longer she spent underwater the more her mermaid heritage would start to dominate) which would be a core plot point in the climax. However it wasn't the focus of the film which was instead on being a twisted version of the Ariel/Eric love story from the first film except in this case the message being "first impressions can be deceiving".
