https://youtu.be/rbJLRcLr5zE?si=LWWriv1AsfeAdUN_How come Peter Bagge's Hate never became an adult cartoon for mature adults ?
>>153516239Waited too late to make the cartoon
>>153516239Because people hated it
>>153516793I feel like it would kind of work now if they kept it in the 90s. It would be a nostalgic "that 70s show" or "Happy days" type of hit.The problem is that modern cartoons would have the animation be really stiff (because the focus is on writing and not cartoon wackiness)
Buddy canonically says nigger
>>153516833>Because people hated itDude, it's one of the most acclaimed alternative comics period
>>153516239Bagge didn't like this pilot and called it "too Ren and Stimpy"
>>153517191His drawing style is kind of "Ren and Stimpy" though
>>153516902Says faggot too.arguably rapes Lisa too
>>153517245I guess? He's said his influences were Clampett and Avery cartoons, along with Crumb of course and Mort Walker, Schulz, etc. He was developing another Hate pilot that would have been CGI before that fell through.
>>153517295Yeah his art is classic looney tunes stuff. I can see how he wouldn't want it to be gross over the top Ren and Stimpybut I really wouldn't want a HATE show to be stiff modern "adult cartoon"sitcom style though
>>153517245that's common for 90s
Because mature adults don't watch cartoons (except for The Simpsons)
>>153516908>Dude, it's one of the most acclaimed alternative comics periodThen it would be titled "Acclaim," not "Hate"
>>153516239>that voice they chose for Buddy
>>153516239Because Bagge is an old school toonfag with high standards who hated everything else MTV was airing. He trashed Daria for being dialogue and character focused instead of doing wacky looney tunes shit all the time.
>>153521047Based Bagge
>>153521047What did he think of Beavis and Butt-Head?
>>153516239Peter Fagge lol
>>153516239This story went nowhere. It's like they wrote a three act storey but only had the budget for the first act. I liked the animation and story somewhat. I feel like the characters are a little 2 dimensional. The lawyer was random and made little sense, but if they had the budget to finish the thing, I am sure it would make sense.I feel like this show would be a bit of a slog to get through if it were ever greenlit, unfortunately. I love the style and the vibe. But it feels like every episode would be about the crazy guy going crazy and causing trouble, and the straight man just going along for the ride, and the other characters just exist to move the plot along. It would be one of the shows where stuff just happens, and you have no characters to latch onto. I feel. There are glimpes of a good show here, though.
