Some Patriarch is about to to put an unruly Female back in her place. Or at least attempt to.

This should be fun.

Well, Lopin also know because he was told and, seeing his special interest he had toward "the thing" and he is specialised AND particularly gifted into finding where to scavenge to find out artefacts, It's not completely impossible that Narklet actually has enough knowledge in the first place to figure out what is going on with Kass.

I will take Narklet's cold pragmatism any day over the self-hating yinglets of Matriarch Vizlets enclave who have no faith in their own ability to survive and adapt to human presence and just wish they were humans themselves.

And I will especially take him over the abomination that is Baxxid culture in Val Salia, which takes that self-loathing to an extreme and demands a constant repression of their natural instincts, using constant shame to keep their peers in line like a cult.

enjoy seeing my takes in future OOP threads. Vizlet and the Baxxid's contempt for their own people and the culture of shame they've build around it is sickening. Hold on, let me pick my favorite point out from your post, because I seriously cannot believe you said it about scavs of all things.
>in their own ability to survive
Anon, if you were to ask anyone the most prominent thing about yinglets, the first response across the board would be "they're suicidally retarded". Between doing idiotic shit to prove points that don't actually matter and pissing off bigger and smarter creatures (like humans), yinglets die in droves every day and are basically at a standstill when it comes to developing anything resembling a working culture. What Vizlet is doing is not human cosplay or culture dilution, it's taking the best of what humanity has to offer and applying it to her own species, blending the knowledge with her own cultural heritage, resulting in stronger and smarter yinglets. Narklet, to our knowledge, does not have a plan for his species, and seems to be in favor of just continuing to die like idiots for the sake of "purity".

Narklet want to maintain into obscurantism Yinglet because he reject knowledge that isn't "yinglet" enough. Vizlet want to fast-forward the Yinglet's cultural advancement to improve their way of living. One clearly care more about the well being of the Yinglets than the other.

>the self-hating yinglets of Matriarch Vizlets enclave
To be fair if you don't hate Yinglets at least a little bit, there's obviously something wrong with you. Most of them are aggressively retarded and highly annoying and everyone knows it, so it makes sense that the more intelligent ones have a dose of internalized self-hatred.

He’s not pragmatic, he’s dogmatic. He’s a suck up to his bosses up north who is so self-assured of his knowledge and place in the world thanks to all the praise he gets for being a good boi he repeatedly and needlessly presses the buttons of the local matriarchs and patriarchs, who only tolerate his presence due to outside pressure. We’ve seen how Kattajack outright fantasizes about putting a shiv through the little kissup’s neck and is only held back by understanding who Narklet answers to. Otherwise, he’d be dead the instant he wears down everyone’s nerves to the point they get Poak to sit on him to death.

Him attempting to put someone like Kass “in her place” is going to lose him at minimum an eye if he tries to talk down to her like he does the rest of his kind, I guarantee it. Dude is definitely going to die before the story’s done, whether because of random fate or him overstepping everyone’s patience harder than he already has.

Do you think there's any possible happy ending for Yannit?
This seems like it was a time bomb waiting to go off and it sure did but thankfully not as bad as it could have been if a big fucking worm and an Oni weren't on call. This isn't a matter of cultural learning being the source of strife it's her genuinely being hard wired to go murder death kill under a certain stimulus that she cannot break out of on her own as we can see. It's sort of like the ultimate refusal of all this cultural blending and development we're seeing discussed in the plot. She literally cannot be a part of it without being a danger to herself and others.

It’s remaining to be seen, but it is notable that she’d been spending what’s implied to be several days in a massive sensory deprivation environment and keeping her sanity through nothing but feeling up people’s hair and the good vibes of community. That, and her reaction to the scent of baxxid had to be forcibly taught to her, it doesn’t come natural since she only reacted violently to the “threat” of a baxxid coming into her territory, not to the scent of worms in general crawling under or throughout the city. If anything, Yannit’s probably got a better chance than most for the sheer lengths she’s pushed herself past her limits as it is, so she might be capable of dealing with more than we’ve seen so far.

The patriarchs fascinate me because they are so much more genuinely clever and competent than the majority of scavs. Like how does that happen? Is it a genetic abnormality that make their brains big enough to understand and ascend the rickety ranks of their culture? Or is it sociological, where one unusually clever yinglet can uplift the others with knowledge?

So, evaluating the responsibilities of the Patriarchs;

Poak - Leads food stores workers (and possibly cooks?)
Chakki - Leads farmers.
Katterjack - Leads Hunters
Figgins - Leads Traders/general provisions.
Beizel - Leads the Scouts
Narklet - Leads a group of acolytes

The Nurses work directly for the Matriarch.

So it would seem to me that the Patriarchs that this enclave is missing are:

Guards. The big one. Hunters have other responsibilities to go out and Hunt, and the Scouts go out and scout. That there isn't a Patriarch responsible for planning the defence of the enclave itself as their primary duty seems like a major gap of a role.

Buildings. Buildings don't just happen, they need to be properly planned if they're not just going to fall down. A Patriarch of Building seems another quite evident gap in this Enclave's leadership.

Clothings: Perhaps not as necessary as the above two roles due to their fur, but many Yinglets do wear clothing, and potentially even make it. So it's a little surprising they don't have anyone directly responsible for making clothes for the Enclave, especially as we've actually seen examples of Yinglets sewing and adjusting clothing.

Are there any other 'Patriarch' positions that you all think the Val Salien enclave seems to be missing?

The Patriarch title, seems to be more about what talent and opportunities are available rather than a strict check list. Foodstuffs, scouting, hunting, and scavenging, are likely traditional roles, but trade and farming were created specifically for Figgins and Chaki respectively because of where they are and what they can bring to the table. Things like construction and guard duty are probably seen as communal duties that don't require specialists, but if a scav was born with an exceptional talent for either his specific enclave may create that position for him.
>>
>>153532562
I'm pretty sure the hunters are it. They are somewhat tribal, and hunter is the general warrior class of such a society, so they'd handle all that stuff.

I think some of it is being smarter and more capable than average, and some of it is just living long enough to get life experience. Yinglets basically hit their "horny teenager" phase at something like 8 months old and reach full maturity at around two. Most of them just don't have time to accumulate any life experience before they do something fatally stupid. Vislet has noted that Kassen looks like a young just barely mature female. Narklet, like Brakka, is going to assume he's dealing with a naive young thing and not a Yinglet with the mind of a 25 year old educated merchant war veteran. should be interesting.

>>153532562
Technically, Narklet is Patriarch of Scavenging, and is actually pretty good at his job. The official reason Lopin was exiled is anything unusual is supposed to be turned over to the Scavenger Patriarch. But he's also the unofficial enforcer of traditional Yinglet culture.
>>
>>153535724
I'm curious what Narklet actually thinks of Kass. The cover story is obviously bullshit, so my best guess is that he assumes they're another renegade female like Zeska. Or possibly even one of Vizlets own females who went unreported and was given over to be raised by humans in secret.
>>
>>153534540
What set Kass off was Kal's sudden move to submission. Which was bowing quickly while putting his claws in front of his face and striking the ground. For a Baxxid it's a sign of complete surrender and apology, but to Kassen's Ying brain it looked like a sudden downward strike and triggered her flight response. Kass was fine with Kal until that point. I could see a situation in the Enclave where Kal gets embarrassed and does the apology bow, which sets of the Yinglets, which makes Kal even more embarrassed...
>>
>>153535847
he takes precisely one look at kass and immediately wants to disappear lopin, he knows exactly what he is and what zat zhing is.
>>
>>153535857
Him looking at Kass was an acknowledgement of an outsider being present, which is why he immediately stopped talking. Humans finding out about zat zing feels like something he would want to avoid at all costs so the fact that he's made no attempt to even figure out what Kass may or may not know, makes me think he's in the dark about the green fuilds effects on humans.
>>
>>153535857
I knd of suspect that the reason Narklet is so "weirdly clever" is that the elders have been using Zhat Zhings they fond to extend their own lives. If, like in Kassen's case, exposure to a Zhat Zhing transforms the subject into young mature adult baseline Yinglet, The Elders might have been extending their lives for decades. Hell, the entire species is just 140 years old. There might be Elders who were around when the Great One established the modern Enclave system. And Kassen getting and accidentally using one of the Zhat Zhings would be a disaster for them, if for no other reason that someone important didn't get their life extension.
>>
>>153535924
They could also be used as a "reset button" to control runaway mutations and inbreeding within the population.
>>
>>153535924
>>153535971
the whole species might be engineered and seeded from zhose zhings

there are the lesser yinglets which are basically just wild animals

but by who?
>>
>>153536000
The species of greater yinglets originating wholly from other organisms transformed by the artifacts has been my theory for some time now. It would explain why their mutation rate is so damn high, it's the traits of past organisms their ancestors were originally trying to reemerge.
A ynglet with a bush for hair? They had an ancestor who was a bush that got ying'd and somehow procreated afterwards.
>>
>>153536000
>>153536073
My guess is that greater yinglets were the result of human experimentation on lesser yinglets. The humans on this planet were clearly big into genetic tampering, so it's not a stretch to assume they would mess woth the wildlife as well.

you forget this is a sci fi book and Yinglets are population of genetically unstable mutants with almost no innate gene correction mechanisms and it's already a bloody miracle that the enclave system as much as exists - and ther'es no guarantee the leadership of the enclave is even "true yinglet" in the sense they aren't some extra mutated uber yinglet that has nothing in common with the average rat bird.

Meanwhile, on the other comic, Super Frenzy has had a sudden rush of productivity and has made a lot of comics. The plot is thus almost advancing.

That's it for now...

I feel like the timeframe is missing a bit from the comic, it's been like 10 years since Kass got transformed but how long has it been in-universe. A week?

Death of the author is about what message to take from a piece of writing. It's not about the world building he has made but hasn't revealed yet.

I almost wonder what happened with End Town. I remember it getting constantly story timed, and vaguely recall fury then silence.
>>
>>153538200
It's a mix, she's been conditioned to fear baxxid but indrel can't regulate their own emotions. They rely on signals from the group to control themselves.

Day 1 - Kass and Elim pick up Yannit, Kass gets TF'd. Spend the night at Isher's.
Day 2 - Kass and co. are summoned to Ivenmoth HQ, Kass meets Vizlet and gets promoted to diplomat. Revealed much later, Ran's guys dig up the remains of the TF artifact.
Day 3 - Writing and running around a room. Total denial. Events not seen.
Day 4 - Kass gets his uniform, visits the enclave for the first time, Lopin joins the party.
Day 5 - Debriefing of Lopin, Brakka becomes a double wanted scav, baxxid relations are explored. That night Kass has an emotional breakdown which he manages to recover from.
Day 6 - Second visit to the enclaves, hatchery and eggs, Elim gets stabbed, Elim goes T-1000 and yeets Brakka into a building giving him brain damage. Elim goes into surgery and pulls through, the trademaster is greatly irritated by the incident and begins making moves.
Day 7 - Yannit research, Kass writes more papers, Elim continues to recover, baxxid society glimpses

About a week passes

Day 8 (+~7) - Isher goes to a bar.
Day 9 (+~7) - Kass kills a bug, it had it coming, writes more research papers. Vising the baxxid old folks home.
Day 10 (+~7) - Still at the baxxid old folks home. Vizlet visits House Ivenmoth with her entourage. Kass and Elim have war flashbacks. Yannit gets new clothes. Kattajak and Zally have a strong parental bond. Kass and Vizlet talk about Kass's wall suppressing trauma.
Day 11 (+~7) - Kal goes on guard duty and flirts with Nel then rips a thief in half. Yannit wears new clothes. Kal is judged and meets HWKWHD.

About another week passes.

Day 12 (+~14) - Kass gets a new assignment to go visit the enclave for a while. Kal gets assigned to guard Kass. Yannit bugs out at the sight of Kal and is sent into a frenzy, injuring Isher in the process.
Day 13 (+~14) - Kal and Nel flirt. Isher is a super fast healer. Kass, Kal, and Isher leave for the enclave. Narklet plots something for Kass.

>>153539783
We see Lopin panicking that he should not have sold that thing on the day Kass first visits the enclave. It likely took a day to realize who it was that sold the thing to Kass and that Brakka gave it to Lopin in the first place before they really went after him.

yeah no, I'm pretty sure you added an extra day.

elim goes to the library first thing in the morning, they get summoned and vizlet is already there. viracroix then introduces kass to ran and he writes the first report and falls asleep.
very next morning he instinctively munches on a bug and talk things over with elim, then the seamstresses arrive with his new uniform and tell him he's going to the enclave that same noon.

day 3 on your list doesn't exist.

okay but try reading the comic, there is no day 3, it's right from falling asleep at the writing table to visiting the enclave at noon the next. the day of running around is what kass said he wanted, not what actually happened.

this is exactly why author statements are worthless.
>>
>>153540399
OK. Ask him yourself when he shows up in the threads.

Also, it says "one day later" in the upper left corner or page 1. Not "the next morning", but "one day later." So that's where I'm getting this unseen day from.
But again, just ask him yourself so we can all get the lore accurate day count.

he wakes up in exactly the same spot, you are implying he slept for over 24 hours.
as a yinglet.

if you go to sleep one night and then wake up "one day later" what do you think that means?

your misunderstanding may be down to the anglo quirk of not having separate words for "day" as in when the sun is up and "day" as in 24 hours. I see anglos get this confused a lot, actually.

Kass is going to have to take a hostage and fight her way out of that place. There's no way in hell with this page that she can simply walk into AND out of Morder without issue. I would have to look around for it, but Val wrote a brief summary of how the Baxxid were aliens fleeing a replicator robot swarm, picked up humans on their way, and they escaped through a wormhole to another galaxy. The replicators were right behind them and some kind of attack as they were escaping made a technobabble explosion that collapsed the wormhole on a bunch of mass, creating the big nebula light show thing that the patriarch is looking at here >>153529512 That started year zero in the ne calendar in the new colony. Then, around year 300 ~something~ happened, societal collapse, mystery.

>>153542803
That begs a question; what happens to female Yinglets that don't get mated? Since Yinglets are Oviparous Kass won't be getting periods, but does this mean that even if there is no mating, at some point Kass might start laying the occasional unfertilised Egg?

Val said in the comments on one pf the pages on the comic's website that yinglet females don't start producing eggs until the first time they get fertilized, then they become egg production factories where the egg is getting made either way.

So unless someone knocks Kass up, he's not going to start laying eggs.

It's not uncommon, but something as focused and planned out as oops is definitely an outlier. Generally these sorts of things are treated more like anthologies, where there's a main setting/theme the creator is fixated on, that serves as a jumping off point for various stories that come and go at the whim of the author.
