The Massster is a characte Hastings created for a Deadpool Annual a few years prior. As far as I can tell that story and this issue are the only appearances he's had.

I should mention there's also a backup in this issue but it's just an introduction to Gwen not written by Hastings and with some ugly Bagley art so I'm not bothering with it because it's not worth including.

That's it for this time. Next time, Gwen's attempt to go after Doom has a slight problem.

>>153530272
Oh yeah, I forgot this is the Doom is Ironman era.
>>
>>153530259
Did Pete ever show up again past this? That's a brutal way to get erased, if not.
>>
>>153530448
Yes, it's actually a point that Gwen is so low tier even with her powers that she can't even kill off someone like Pete and have it (heh) stick.

furry cecil makes me uncomfortable

Its such a bad look for him, ghost Cecil is much cooler
>>
>>153532110
What if he'd done what Ghost Rider's evil car said and took Gwen's body?
>>
>>153532110
I always assumed it was meant to be an in-between phase, and that he'd eventually end up mostly human with the ability to transform into the giant dog like a werewolf.

>>153530071
Hastings also wrote for Deadpool?
>>
>>153533617
He did a couple of Deadpool minis. Fear Itself Deadpool and Secret Agent Deadpool.

I have terrible memory. Is there something more to the fact that Gwen's crimes have been retconned/forgot and that it's obviously meant to be ominous that he can't recall them

Honestly just really cruel and callous

I don't think it's explicitly stated but it's probably related to another application of her powers, that being a sort of plot armor. In #19 Vinnie mentions Gwen thinking herself 'the hero' caused their aim to be off, it's possibly it also applies here with her thinking herself the protagonist causes minor characters to overlook things like her numerous past offenses, with exception being Gray because she's a 'named character' ascended in importance by Gwen herself.

There's a certain kind of irony to me about Gwen expressing worry for someone seemingly 'wasting their life' away locked / secluded in their room after what we just saw of her past NEETdom. The difference here being Cecil is actually getting paid for what he does in his room, but I still think it's nice of Gwen to show concern that Cecil isn't living life to the fullest, which is something she's become almost a bit too proficient in.
I also like a small point Cecil brings up here (and affirmed by the Q&A section at the end) that Gwen's knowledge of Marvel slowly becomes less reliable overtime given she can no longer read any comic past 2015, which is pretty relevant to this upcoming part.

Thanks for the storytime OP
After such a big arc as the last one things are feeling pretty low-stakes with Gwen taking time to refine and abuse her newfound ability to break past the panels. Gwen's trying to be more actively altruistic, but still getting in over her head and only now being saved by a seemingly broken application of her powers. Previously her overconfidence came from assuming she knew everything there is to know about the 'plot' of her adventures, but even though she knows better now she thinks she has a real reason to be overconfident - an instant win button just winning via ringout by pushing them out the border, which is cheap but exploitable/easy. I've enjoyed Gwen's growth but her still acting foolhardy is a part of her charm, and she's at least now only endangering herself rather than others by making the extraordinary leap to conclusions that her comic powers means she can handle Dr. DOOM of all people. Also liked the various returns of Gray/Cecil/Vinnie, the last especially given Gwen seems quick to treat him as a frenemy.

It's also shown she doesn't know as much as she claims. Given that she has no idea who Chance is and it's not like he's a new character.

Reinforces that she's a newer/kind of shallow fan.
