Superman's powers coming from the sun. Surprisingly it only became a thing a few issues after Supergirl's debut, where the writer retconned in some dialogue when Superman first met her to add the yellow sun part, and an earlier story in the same issue had him losing his powers under a red sun.

That scan retconning in the yellow sun says both the lower gravity and the yellow sun give powers, as a way to keep the gravity bit while putting heavier emphasis on the yellow sun, and eventually the gravity part was removed altogether. According to the wiki, pic related (Superman#134) was published only two months before the yellow sun retcon (AC#262). He's imprisoned in Kandor and the gravity and atmorphere are mentioned as the reasons he lacks powers. I theorize they retconned the yellow sun because while the gravity can explain his strength (Which works well enough with the earliest Superman, who was only a strong man), it doesn't explain other powers like flight, x-ray vision, heat vision (Which, at the time, was part of x-ray vision, and one story even had Superboy burning money accidentally for using x-ray vision for too long) and the like.
