>Internet animation in the 2000s-2010s>1-4 guys making silly cartoons in their spare time or even after their day job>Internet "indie" animation now>Every show needs a Kickstarter of 50-100k, tv quality animation, and has to sell a million plushies or it's cancelled forever. Maybe 10 episodes in total after it's all said and done if you're luckyHow did things get this way?
>>153530425? How is that even a question? You can see the different levels of quality with your own eyes
>>153530425A dying tv animation industry and the attempt to use YouTube to replace it. It won't fully work unless YT restructures its ad system
>>153530425Hazbin
>>153530425Youtubers and reaction channels ruined everything, it's their fault.
>making big shows is le bad
>>153530838It is if you can't afford it without going into massive debt
>>153530847In the 200s the only one who didn't was zone and that's because he was behind a porn paywall
>>153530425Are there any low to no budget current indie shows?
>>153530930France has a bunch Most of Bobbypills' stuff, like Peepoodo, les kassos, Crisi Jung, Dead Cells. Also later Ankama stuff like Lancedur and Bestiale
>>153530425I always thought "indie" meant "Independently funded". So the funding comes from the creators, fans or government grants, not large publicly traded media conglomerates. Is that not the definition?
Expectations are higher now, chud. Adapt or die..
>>153530982The /co/ jurisprudence says that indie means broke and unsuccessful
>>153530425Egocrapper's fault and YouTube existing
>>153530761This desu. People saw Viv hit it big with A24 and Amazon and then tried following in her footsteps, making pitch presentations instead of trying to make stuff OUTSIDE of the studio system. Amazing Digital Circus's popularity also didn't help since now everyone expects TV- or even feature-quality animation from web animation when that was never realistic.
Watch my indie cartoonhttps://youtu.be/7ZbW8gdfY0M?si=EbfU78l3QoSFvXcg
>>153530425Pretty sure it’s only like this now because youtube made internet animation unprofitable otherwise
>>153532262Also theres some demand for cartoons that arent for preschoolers and hopefully dont suck shit, since WB and Nick and Disney stopped doing that
>>153530425I'm making my own pilot animation. The only reason I don't have a kickstarter asking for 50k is because I lack the confidence that I could raise so much. That, and I'm not a known artist e-celeb so not many would give it a chance. I'm on my own but it's ok because I know to NOT pull a Monkey Wrench and spend an obscene amount of money. Frankly I think people going into debt for a pilot is insane and they got to start scaling it back to something more manageable. But there seems to be this silent expectation that a 30 min high quality pilot is the key to instant fame which isn't true. I Don't Wanna Be a Magical Girl racked up more views on an animatic versus a ton of pilots with tens of thousands poured into it
>>153532233>the part where the dad joins in beating dr roundballThat got a laugh outta me. Nice work Anon.
>>153530425There are plenty of indie animation that looks like trash where it's just a bunch of guys making crap. You just don't know about them because they aren't making bank and aren't getting picked up by the alghoritm.
>>153533304Name 500.
I hope Gooseworx takes a nice, long, well-deserved nap after all this.
>>153530425Like most things in life, you can blame this on Homestuck.
>>153535394>Like most things in life, you can blame this on HomestuckHow? Homestuck... is webcomic
>>153535470A webcomic that ushered in the MILLIONS of dollars for "Indie" crowd funding projects.
>>153530425Dont forget indie animations that have funding from multimilliondollar corporations.
>>153530425>1-4 guys making silly cartoons in their spare time or even after their day jobYeah and it was very noticeable that was the case. Egoraptor and oney were considered the best animators
>>153532896That makes me very happy, I'm glad you enjoyed anon
>>153530425Back in the day you would get 2-3 minutes animations not 30-20 minutes episodes like indie stuff of today is that simple, name one single Internet cartoon with multiple episodes that had the same size of a cartoon network show
>>153530960Im pretty sure those are one shot cartoons anon, at best youre getting another peepoodo because Bobby needs to pay bills with his waifu
>How did things get this way?The Internet became profitable and people became experienced with the medium. What other answer do you want?
>>153530425In the past, it was done as a hobby, something done with mostly just passion and/or fun in mind, with no worry or concern for money. People did it for free and for the love of the game, as they say.Nowadays, it is a business. They invest heavily because they hope to have heavy returns in the form of views and merch. Every artist involved needs to be paid. There might be passion, but it is no longer the sole motivator. This same phenomenon sort of applies to games as well. Many games are huge productions where companies either make it or break it.
We used to have real art like charlie the unicorn, happy tree friends, hoops and yoyo, spongebob hemp pants, salad fingers, potter puppet pals, how it should have ended
>>153532233This actually would have fit for a nick toons cartoon
>>153536136The people doing it as a hobby grew up and needed to make a living, and the only way they could make a living still doing what they liked is if they made it profitable.
>>153536178It's ironic cause I sent the pitch bible to Nick with the script but I guess I must've explained the premise badly
>>153532365People should jiust shoot for 7-10 minutes on a pilot really
>>153536104All glitch series kutside of meta runners are one shots too, so no ida of what that has to do with anything. But also Les Kassos is 7 seasons
People can't buy food or pay rent with smug feeling of not selling out anonNor can they finish a show after a day job
>>153536197That's true, I'm not saying like it is a bad thing, it's just that that explains (to me, at least) why things have evolved into the current situation. It makes sense that if you love and wish to dedicate your life to something professionally, that you start to pour in some more effort and funds. This happens to every single thing the person wishes to do professionally. For example, someone who likes bike riding and is good at it might want to go pro, so they get serious, and invest more time and money into it, goes into competitions, etc.Again, the love might still be there (though sometimes it fades away a bit), but it is no longer the sole motivator.
>>153536197But everyone else told me that you could do it on the side while working
>>153536104More Maxine is always welcome.
>>153530425BECAUSE OF WOKE ANNIHILATING EVERYTHING THATS COOL AND NICE.
>>153535597I see...
>>153536901You can but its not gonna be a full show, more along the lines of Raven getting triple anal gaped on Patreon
