DreamWorks won that round. Their film is better

It's funny how this movie portrays ants as stupid little wimps when they're the most territorial and organized creatures on earth. No insect can face down an ant nest. Only ants can kill other ants. Termites are the only serious exception.

Not sure I'd describe Antz as a commie film, but whatever

Primarily, yes, but during their nuptial flight season queens will lay unfertilized eggs that develop into males that are genetically identical to their mother which are sent off to fly with winged queens to comingle with the reproductive caste of other nests. They're known as alates, and are born to mate and then die practically right afterwards. They aren't even fed while in the colony for the most part as it would be a waste and would make them heavier so they wouldn't be able to fly as far. Their genitals often explode during mating to deliver as much genetic material as possible before the subsequently die from the trauma.

There's something about those 90s Pixar graphics that's just timeless. Ashame the technology is lost now.

Anyone else think that what destroys this movie is using insects? Among the animal species on Earth to make movies out of birds are fairly unpopular however even birds rank higher than insects which most humans get the ick from looking at them. It was a real dumb decision to make the main characters insects. This movie would have been more popular if it starred mammal animals like Over the Hedge did. Real shame though and having Hopper voiced by an actual shitty child molester is another negative.

What bothers me about many of these movies using anthro animals is, here's your protagonist? He's a total beta loser JUST LIKE YOU!

And its especially annoying when its a tough creature like you said an ant, those little dudes are tough.
>>
>>153533013
To add to this, only a small percentage of male ants mate and most die of starvation, exhaustion or predation

?
The bugs most people find disgusting (ie roaches, centipedes) are not the main characters, they’re the ones most people aren’t bothered by, helped by the fact the insect designs are very cutesy and simplified.

The movie was also a hit, so I’m not even sure what you’re talking about.

All of Desu acts super slow and I think I now know the cause.

Depends, army ant males fly to other nests, where his "i'm a male ant" smell makes the workers and soldiers only cut his wings off and then escort him to the brood chamber, where he mates with one the princess ants and then dies. The newly fertilized queen will then either leave to start a new colony or stay with her mother as a subordinate queen.

Antz wins in the soundtrack department. Give me these two over Randy Newman anyday

>Apart from Antz, you also worked with Harry on Shrek as well. How did you and Harry work together? What was your method in this duel concept?
>Well with all three films, Chicken Run, Shrek and Antz, what happened was Harry and I would meet and would spend hours together and basically just write themes together, write ideas, bring ideas to each other and sort of bounce them off each other. I had always done this with Gavin and I was quite used to writing in collaboration with another composer. I didn't really know that it's quite unusual. I always thought that people did it because songwriters do it and it made perfect sense to me. So we'd have fun, try things out and try these ideas on the filmmakers. Once we had a structure of an idea or an idea of scenes, we would each take the idea and start to apply it to different sections of the movie. So Harry might do an opening sequence and then I would then head into one of the big action sequences or something like that. We would split up the work and then take those themes and start to develop them throughout the movie. There was still a lot of interaction here, as if I was working on a cue, Harry might come into my room and have a look and we would talk about it and see if there was any help we could give each other. It was an interactive process but obviously the work was split up between the two of us. The cues were somewhat separate but ultimately we were using the material we had developed together

True, but I didn't think it necessary to bring up fringe cases such as driver ants or the ergatoid males of Cardiocondyla in a cursory overview of common ant reproduction.

and his ingenuity is what saves the day

>And its especially annoying when its a tough creature like you said an ant, those little dudes are tough.
and the grasshoppers know it, the ants could rise up at any and they cant do anything about it
only the threat of force, rather than force itself, is able to keep the ants down

>>153534485
Yeah, but ants don't play games like that. This movie is COMPLETELY unrealistic because Flick and a dozen other workers didn't immediately try to rip Hopper's legs off with his mandibles while either stinging him to death or spraying formic acid on him.

Birds make for great animated films you absolute mong. Mammals can fuck off for a change since got enough focus on them as is.
