Are Franco-Belgian comics actually good or do people just pretend that they are cause they're tired of DC and Marvel?
>>
>>153536704
Both
But most Franco-Belgian comics that get referenced are either Asterix or Lucky Luke to name a few, not the wider industry as a whole
>>
>>153536764
Yeah, it's either the big bunch, Tintin, Smurfs or Blueberry, or random lewd ones like Melusine.
Then it's just a corner of european comics, if the biggest and most available non-english-language, non-disney.
There's a bunch of pretty deep rabbit holes out there.
>>
>>153536704
Why don’t you read them and form your own opinion?
>>
>>153536704
I understand that the people who watch Marvel/DC movies and read Manga don't read Marvel/DC comics.

They never got tried of them because the product was never attractive in the first place.
>>
>>153536704
The latter. Every one is just boring pulp adventure stories or weird sex shit. And often both if it's French.

You can talk a lot of shit, but the fact remains that Batman lost to the French at being Bruce Wayne.
>>
>>153536704
If you aren't french, then you won't like most of them at all. They are more alien than manga because westerners think that good writing is about utilizing dialogue, figurative language, and prose that doesn't translate well anywhere else outside of their country. Ends up feeling dry and boring as a result.
>>

This seems like a parody post. The main issues they got are that the albums are very expensive and publication is slow.

I don't think you could come up with a more Belgian name.
>>
>>153537448
A lot of their books are published here, but the results don't lie. They sell poorly than manga and are less popular than domestic/indie comics overseas. It is several degrees away from the west, so there's something flawed with it. The writing in it is very dry or extremely alien as it makes references to French pop culture.
>>
>>153537488
That's a skill issue on part of the translators, really.
>>
>>153536704
Kimda hard to tell. Since the Franco-Belgian comic-complex is very diverse. It is diverse in themes like the US indy scene or Mangas. The humor comics cover the range of childish to clever. But the Franco-Belgian comics in general feel more intellectual or deeper than your US comics.

>>153536777
And those series are the ones that produce books constantly not with a hiatus or every 7 years.
>>
>>153536704
It depends, some are good, others aren't. they're not popular in the US for the same reason american non-cape comics are not popular in the US.
>>
Donjon was good. But clearly didn't sell and so the translations didn't continue.
>>
>>153536704

From what I can tell, if the series started with multiple creators and then switches to just being one person, that's when you stop reading it. It's either going to go into Old Man Yells At Cloud territory or Grimdark; either way, it's going to lose all of the qualities that made it work in the first place.

If it starts with one person, on the other hand, you should probably skip the first few volumes since it's going to start really rough and then introduce a bunch of side characters that actually make the series worthwhile about the third or fourth volume in.
>>
Can't it be both
>>
>>153536704
Some are good reads, most usually have good art, but they're slow in coming out. I think Marvel/DC comics tend to be more exciting but also generally worse.
>>
>>153537331
I think Europeans will understand them. And Canadians. And South Americans!

gay shit by cowardly pedos for pedo cucks

>>153536704
American cape comics barely existed in Europe, retard.

Yes

Never read or watched any of the Marsupilami stuff, but the recent Hoobaventure game was a surprisingly good Donkey Kong Country type platformer.

The 3D character designs aren't particularly faithful to the comic style though.
>>
>>153536704
You're starting from false premises. Nobody except capefags gives a shit about DC or Marvel. Obviously they're popular and godspeed but it's a completely different genre, it's like asking if people only like something because they're tired of tween romance.
>>
>>153544461
I like all sorts of comics, less so the bad ones.

Yes

I remember they had a cartoon too. Seems like a cross between TinTin and Popeye. Never read them, because the story promise doesnt look that appealing. I can read a Donald Duck/Disney comic instead.

A cross between Tin Tin and Popeye is not a bad description. There are so many albums, and tge stories don't stick to a genre. One album can be a fantasy fairtale, next one sci-fi, the third one a mash up between James Bond and Planet of the Apes.
Picrel is one of the best.
