>Superman would NEVER turn evil! Batman is just PARANOID!!!
except when he gets mind controlled
or possessed
or manipulated by magic
or if he touches a certain type of kryptonite
or if it's an alternate universe version of him
or if the writers think it's cool

those dont count

Slightly off-topic but I do think that COTE's idea of an Ultraman raised with a sense of "honor" was a bit wasted on its brief interpretation, but I understand not wanting to compete with That One Story(Red Son in this case)
Could even pair it with his universe's Carmine Falcone—still a mobster but a remorseful one, likely a hero informant out of the guilt who, on the rare occasions he happens to be in Metropolis(or when the kid flies by) attempts to teach a young Carmine Columbo(namesake due to then-existing goodwill with the Columbo family) the romanticized "honor and famiglia" version of mob life—not like it could hurt HIM, right?

can fags just try to tell a good story instead of trying to subvert and twist shit?

i don't even fucking like superman but the more attach yourself to the thing you're trying to play on the less you can actually do anything yourself
>>
>>153549108
Subverting and twisting shit are required to tell a good story. It doesn't mean that doing this means it's automatically good, but change needs to occur for a character that's been around for over 85 years. Stagnation is the death of creativity.
>>
>>153549147
media for the past decade has been dogshit because of the thing you so misattribute as quality

you know nothing about how a story works or what engages people

>It doesn't mean that doing this means it's automatically good
Hacks know what to do, but may not know how to do it well.

Retard lmao

missing the forest for the trees

How does one meaningfully engage with a theme without testing it; that's just an essential part of human thought
>>
>>153549253
themes are a narrative byproduct, not a guideline
>>
>>153549222
What forest?
>>
>>153549261
I won't condemn this philosophy outright, but explain your theory of literary argument further.
>>
>>153549337
What were the themes of the Trojan War? To us, it was a story because the events detailed are so far in the past we can't confirm they're real. It was passed down through oral tradition until finally written down. To them it was all real. There was no theme, only a series of events from one political incident mired in myth and superstition. It still makes for a damn good story to the vast majority of people.

In short terms, the curtains are blue, not a representation of sorrow or whatever the melodramatic fuck. People can rationalize themes by reading into things that were never there or intended. Most stories told interpersonally or written likely didn't start with a theme in mind. It emerges as the narrative goes on as events create a literary rhyming scheme: a theme.

The Trojan War is not a narrative. The Iliad is.

that's what i meant, yeah

batman being supermans friend makes clark feel like a normal human and on the otherside superman inspires hope for batman and this is how it should be. making batman bitter and jealous makes him exactly like lex luthor

my favorite dc animated thing is the red hood movie where they're at a cafe together
would be funnier if they were in costume but it's pretty wholesome
>>
>>153549482
Then we agreed from the outset and your point was phrased in an obtuse way
The author develops his argument and literary rhyme based on his emotions on both the surface diegetic content and the abstract they invoke in him
>>153549869
I tend to approach Clark from the perspective of Superboy #75—he had every reason to turn out spoilt and yet loved being human so much he remained humble and good; his (mis)understanding of the human experience is what follows
For the bad taste Bryne's Superman leaves in many's mouths his earliest actions on-page being a need to enforce decency, no matter how small, because he believes that to be central to his human experience was a good one
>>
>>153549913
okay
>>
I will say that I think, even in an otherwise obviously comedic story, the concept of Superman being in any way a deliberate design of anyone other than Clark himself is an outrage that diminishes the value of Ma Kent making his suit significantly; that scene is a confirmation that Clark is indeed the boy they raised, alien or not, and that he will do everything he can to protect that upbringing

I like the idea that its Superman himself who hands Batman kryptonite just in case.
>>
Honestly though, Batman could easy argue for his contingency plans by just saying "Show of hands. How many individuals in this room have been brainwashed at least once before now?"

they keep doing it over and over again it just ends up poisoning the character. Batman refuses to kill the joker after joke does some shit because it succinctly illustrates his metaphorical narrative. What purpose does it serve to torture him with the character by continually upping the anti 5000 times so a succession of pseud edgelord writers can go actually batman is a retard. What purpose does it serve to keep retconning xavier into a hypocrite by inventing things in his past until he's unusable as anything but strawman to yell at from atop your soapbox.
>>
>>153550174
exactly
>>
>>153550174
Cheap subversion has become the new stagnation, and some of that is plain bad writing. Reverting to playing it straight is not a solution for these stories. They need to be mercifully put down. New stories that will end should take their place, lest we fall into the same cycle.
>>
>>153550277
oh my fucking god
>>
Turning Superman evil is just the supervillain equivalent of vandalizing Wikipedia.
>>
>>153547224
Why doesn't Batman just make some anti-magic/mind control/evil kyptonite/other bullshit device for Superman to just wear at all times? It's hardly outside the bat-god abilities to just make him a fucking watch or something that does all of that shit.
>>
Related but I would KILL of a elsworld of reverse injustice, evil batman vs superman
Like he skates by identity crisis and gets worse paranoia without the rest of the league finding out and he just goes full manson family.
