Why are superhero comics so creatively bankrupt, and who let this happen?
It's just gone on too long. I don't think superheroes are the problem but most of the characters should not have lasted for 50+ years. Some even have received endings but were rebooted again and again.
>>153549010realistically how many more stories can you tell with spiderman or hulk or batman honestly
>>153549010nepotistic industry that hasn't learned anything in decades
>>153549010Creativity is discouraged, by editors and readers alike.
>>153549010The industry effectively burned all their best and brightest over the last 40 years. From there they were passed between various corporate owners, each more ignorant of what made these properties work to begin with. The real nail in the coffin however is women CEOs. Not only did they commit to the aforementioned first two steps, they quadrupled down. So they ran out the remaining talent while not understanding shit about these characters and then pushed to make these characters even more digestable to not only foreign audiences but likeminded wine aunts, cat ladies, and facebook moms.So at this point we're 20 years removed from a functioning industry, and shit wasnt peachy keen in 2006 to begin with.
>>153550250Well thats a shame.. :(
>>153549010>superhero comics so creatively bankruptSays who?
>>153549010Writers dont have life experiences. Most of the originals did go to warzones or had other jobs. Not they go to a lame arts school, tham tumbler. Also the big two hire people outside the industry that dont read or care about the medium.
>>153553122Anyone with working eyes and brain.
>>153554444Whoa checked
>>153549993I just assume batman wnds at The Killing Joke and everything after is noncanon fanfic
>>153556605TKJ is fanfic
>>153556627No?
Nature of the beast. Archetypal characters that are inherently static. Then, an additional layer of ossification because of the corporate protection demands of an intellectual property. There's only so much elasticity in the characters to start. When they become commodities and have to meet the dictates of committees of non creatives, there's even less room to move. Although, DC right now is really accepting that you can market versions of their properties at different sectors, so there's some movement.
I appreciate OP for making this and I presume the flying brick and woke lesbians threads as well. Argumentation is much more generative discussion than simple cheerleading.
I really enjoyed Krakoa X-Men for the novelty. The line was unfortunately undercut before it could fully explore the logical conclusions of its premise. The reality is that everything will regress to the mean, but the fun is certainly in exploring the elasticity of any given property.
>>153558222Checked.>woke lesbiansThat wasn't me.
>>153549030But new characters don't sell. People don't want new. They want old with new coat of paint. No kill goose that lays golden eggs. No kill goose. No kill. No. No. No. No. No.
>>153558638>But new characters don't sell. People don't want new.Sure they do.
>>153558638People absolutely want new characters. New heroes. But they also want new villains. I think part of why stuff like Kamala and Miles have waned is because no modern creative is gonna produce as much as previous generations to build out the story. Corporate exploitation and flat skill issues have discouraged that. But you've got to be able to throw novel shit at the wall and see what sticks.
>>153558759>>153558771NO KILL GOOSE!
they've gone on too long and
>>153559227The goose is a zombie, and it reeks. Get a fresh one.
>>153549010The pulps aren't a thing anymore, so they are out of things to plagiarize.
>>153549010Editors. /thread
>>153562144What the FUCK?
>>153561959NO KILL GOOSE! NO KILL GOOSE! NO KILL GOOSE!
>>153564951Flash Gordon was traced a lot during the golden age.Hawkman was also ripped off of the hawkmen from Flash Gordon's strips.

>>153564951In the 30 and 40's, comic strips were the big leagues and books were done by people who couldn't break into strips. Comic strip artists were billionaires, doing one page a week with assistants. Comic book artists would be expected to draw a book a week to break even.
>>153564954Kill goose.
>>153549010Everybody with a semblance of talent either left behind the genre or got cancelled.
>>153568191I think that anon is surprising by the tracing.
>>153568998Well sure, but that’s why comic books were tracing from strips. A bunch of teenagers drawing comic books took anything they could from strips. Even down to tracing.
>>153558771Kamala was never popular and miles only really worked in the movies, when he wasnt a knockoff of static shock.
>>153568998How the fuck do people defend these old comics? They're not even good reads.
>>153571188Nostalgia and sacred cows, Batmanfags really hate the fact that he was saved from cancelation by Robin.
>>153549010It's been 80+ years anon......
>>153558638People don't want fags, trannies, and blacks and browns retard. People like new stuff just fine.
>>153572222I can write a compelling superhero comic right now.
>>153572562Do it then.
