Why don't comics focus more on superpowers that aren't punching or blasting?
>>
>>153554013
Because they're harder to depict in a way that's visually interesting, probably.
It's why you can't have a superhero with mind control powers that actually work, because its not fun to watch him just politely ask criminals to turn themselves in and have them actually do it.
Instead you just get Prof. X going "AaAaAaAa mY MiNd" every episode.
>>
>>153554013
there are some interesting powers in comics like forget me not, honestly that guy should have been a villain, a serial killer that always gets away type shit

but yeah compared to manga, comics definitely feel one note, and i attribute most of it towards the fact that comic writers don't really go in depth to what a character can do, like what the implications of their abilities are, watch green lantern by solidjj and you'll see what i mean

Seems easier. Comics choreography tends to be dull, so getting creative with powers would be better for visual spectacle.

I didn't know there were superheroes in Inspector Gadget

That's a terrible idea and you should feel bad.

That powerset lends itself only to being a tragic character. Was he utilized the best? Not exactly. But it was memorable at least, ironically.

List 25 examples of comics that focus more on superpowers that aren't punching or blasting.
>>
>>153554013
Because its an easy to protray and comprehend action in an action story.

Also theres like 2000 new comic stories made every year.
Is there a particular power you want to see? Probably already has a handful of stories that have it.

This was a stealth east vs west all along

Because if a comic is about talking then it is dangerously easy to have it hi-jacked by a retarded female writer who forces the story to be a meet cute coffee shop AU about relationships

Why do I eat up crossover fanfiction sloppa of Worm but I tapped out of actually reading Worm after the Leviathan timeskip? Last thing I read was the Undersiders mindcontrolling Shadowstalker to take the fight to the not-teen titans for some reason
>>
>>153556821
No matter the story everything turns to shit post timeskip.
>>
>>153556531
Never bothered to read it, is it that bad?
>>
>>153557171
Yes and no.
It's fantastic in world building, power usage and their fights, but it suffers from increasing grimderpness.
Read it for however long you like it then drop it.

Because you're retarded and have shit taste.

>>153557330
This is /co/, the comics and cartoons board. I'm allowed and expected to have shit taste.

No.

Origins aren't totally necessary, but it can be hard to explain every novel manipulation of reality. Also, it can be even harder to properly utilize novel powers in way where they're constrained by a sufficiently believable antagonistic force while also leaving space for their use in the eventual triumph. And create enough limitations to avoid automatic resolution to future conflict.

Writing this slop ain't easy.
>>
>>153557330
Hey now. There is the occasional gem of people who can actually write and create interesting situation with powers/characters/settings interacting.
>>
>>153554013
Occam's Razor - the simplest superpower wins out. Flying bricks can solve problems easier than most other kinds of heroes so they usually win out
>>
>>153554013
I'm honestly kinda sick of super powers. Unironically I want to go back to when superheroes used guns. I want the Dark Age but without all the stupid Liefeldian shit.
>>
>>153554013
They break plots
>>
>>153557600
Then they burn out on ideas and end up just resorting to "hit/blast everything hard".
>>
>>153557171
At a certain point in the story, things only ever start getting worse. At that point, you also still have about a million words to go, being only a third or so through the story. At least it has a somewhat cathartic ending.
At least until the author made an infinitely worse sequel.
>>
>>153557877
We don't talk about Ward
>>
>>153557434
Which is better: piecemeal origins for every character and power, or some plot instigator like mutation/MHA quirks? Alternatively, a limited AoE, like the jumpstart effect from the Ultraverse or the Specials comet from Rising Stars?

It’s withstood some measure of the time test to still be having it’s fans and discussions bubbling up as much as it has more then a decade out from it’s ending.

Everyone gets a different origin like in OPM
>>
>>153558577
A character that "breaks the rules" and learns magic while also being an alien or a billionaire techbro is easier to buy than a setting that insists on powers working this way except for the protagonist who has two mutations or has the mutation to copy other mutations or whatever.
>>

Fanboys can exist for absolute fucking garbage until the day they die, and in that period of time continue circlejerking over their subject of obsession basically forever.
>>
>>153558938
Most 'superheroes' in OPM are just generic animu superfighters with no special origin to their abilities. Some punch, others use a weapon, but the majority are just bricks without the flying and mostly job when anything halfway-serious appears.

Even characters with create powers tend to end up with repetitive and predictable uses for them.

>>153556726
Like it or not, anime and manga do tend to have far more variety in powers and magic systems.

wolverine slices, dices, and makes julienne fries

>>
>>153556421
Fuck you do you not see the potential in that?

A serial hero killer that can get away with almost anything, our heroes have to put so much effort just to corner him, just think about the tension, the mystery, the fucking strategies they need to come up with, he would basically be the western version of stain from MHA but with a completely different Hax type ability

PS238 a comic series about kids at a superhero school, mainly following the one with no powers. I actually enjoy the characters and the adventurous drama that happens to them. The elastic character is featured in an arc. sadly it's on hiatus since 2022.
