now we're really entering the final stretch. new readers beware: the premise is going to be a little confusing because the was a time skip, but just bear with it. the end is near.
also, no, you're not going colorblind- this is the director's edition, restored to its black and white glory! only the first issue, though.
the final solution to kitsune has been employed.
:(
>>153554095>only the first issue, though.dang, I would love to see a Kurosawa'd version of the color series.
>>153554175I kinda wish this wasn't a crossover thing. A timeskip premise played straight is already pretty interesting.
>>153554222...just wait for friday....
>>153554095The beginning of the end
there's a how-it's-made section I'll leave for later.
I remember bursting out laughing on seeing this page the first time
>>153554272ah color, gross
>>153554351Or it's a bunch of dried twigs. shut up. no you can't exam it.

>>153554146Damnit Usagi! Why so savage?
>>153554385Did THE SHOGUN ever get a name? Because I know it's Tokugawa, but in funny animal book land it's probably not called Tokugawa
the mogura are back, baby! >>153554417no, but we can probably guess it's Hidetada. the hollyhock crests confirm it's the Tokugawa in charge.
>>153554392Oh hey, these guys. They've only shown up like, what, twice?
So, just to be sure, you Usagi guys had never heard of Dr Wherewhen before this either, right?
>>153554499Hey, so unrelated is NOW a good time to talk about my annual review?
>>153554479only as a sketch and idea for a space usagi story that never materialized.

>>153554418uh- An Okonomiyaki? At this time period? In this part of the country?Localized entirely within your kitchen?>The first appearance of the word "okonomiyaki" was at a shop in Osaka in the 1930s.[2][7][8] After the 1923 Great Kantō earthquake when people lacked amenities, it became a pastime to cook these crêpes,[1] and after World War II (when there was a short supply of rice)[6] okonomiyaki emerged as an inexpensive and filling dish for all ages, often with savory toppings, such as meat, seafood, and vegetables.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okonomiyaki

>>153554417>>153554437Chambara and japanese convention. Japan doesn't have "fair use", and even things like the family crests are the property of the famlies. They want to be fuzzy with the timeline, and if you use someone's name, you REALLY want to be careful, especially if it's historical, and not a completely obvious fantasy story. AC Shadows ran into that problem multiple times, probably the worst being with Lady Oichi of Nobunaga

>>153554190ah yes the TMNT, characters who are from different universes so obviously in this crossover they're from the future and sent to the past insteadso they're more Teenage Ninja Turtles then Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles since furries are already a thing
rest in power, cousin oriber.
I WANT OFF MR SAKAI'S WILD RIDE
>>153555032Also a bunch of ninja guys got mangled, but I guess they don't matter as much. >>153555046I don't know how I feel about Ino coming back just to die and have his daughter take up his mantle as a miserable wandering cripple. Stan sure does love his ironic cycles of misery, but maybe he should have been left in the past with his happy ending.
this is the most recent how-it's-made we have. seeing how little it takes makes you think you can do it too. you have been working on your comic, haven't you anon?
>>153554369Funny how now in every Usagi crossover the TMNT are mistaken for kappa while back in Green Shades the Neko just called them "Kamé clan".Then again aside from Hebi and early gator bandit there are no reptile people in Usagi.
>>153554630Forget Waldo, where this that one get ice cream?
>>153555032If it's any condolence he died in a really, really funny way.
>>153555091that's exactly it, he could've not brought up Ino at all. but happy endings are against the shogun's peace... also, the idea of ino's daughter is one he had for a long time, so he used it here in conjunction with senso's theme of killing everybody off.
>>153554657>>153554664Usagi miscegenation confirmed with what Stan said in a letter reply all those years ago!

>>153554129Wait I thought this guy was just eyeing Tomoe so she would marry some lord.
that's it for today. like I said, tomorrow we'll do a breather and get through the artbook. on friday, we'll finally end it all with bang. see you there!

>>153555299Tomoe looks like she got some Mondays
>>153554140I find funny the serius look of usagi startegizing and Tomoe waving goodbye witj the happiest smile.
>>153554542I'm starting to think this Kitsune is a doppelganger. Not because the real Kitsune can't fight but because she's too much into it instead of retreating and leaving the fight to the much more experienced fighters. She hasn't even stolen anything (that we've seen)!
>>153555097No, I'm grinding on someone else's comic, then a licensed comic, then a comic for a friend, and only after can I go back to working on mine
>>153554653Wherewhen is a very weird character I wish Stan'd talk more about. Because he wasn't created for this story- we have at the very least a years earlier pinup where he's got a different design, and I think I remember Stan mentioning him in the letters page way way before. But we don't know much else or in what ways he changed from whatever concept Stan had until this finished one where he's basically a TMNT fancharacter
>>153555046Ichiko's such a weird inclusion, she doesn't factor into the plot at all and this story leads directly into senso, which she doesn't appear in, so there's not much point to her existence.
>>153555497yeah, I searched for that pinup but I can't find it.
>>153555532Considering Wherewhen's existence, I think Stan was just feeling like dumping in any of his unused ideas that he hadn't gotten around to, just so we can see them even if just a glance
>>153554222I mean, Sendo wasn't played straight either, is a crossover too.
>>153555543Thread 36, here it is again
>>153554653I think he was a Stan OC he created many years ago but never put in the comic until now. Anyone has that one drawing were he appears that was made many years ago?
>>153555408She's happily married to a general, she doesn't need to steal anymore. The last thing she stole was gens heart
>>153554716Always dug how despite Tomoe's dream, Horikawa is actually apparently loyal. A jerk, but loyal. In the Wherewhen/Senso/Space timeline, at least.
>>153555588I mean, I wouldn't mind if that was played straight as well. Or really, I just think a straight timeskip story would be interesting. We have all these characters and all these lingering plot arcs that we know Stan will never get around to resolving, and the mainline comic itself is moving at a glacial pace and getting kind of stale in its current status quo. It's not that I don't like it, but we see another arc with Kitsune and she embroiled in a theft, or another arc with Gen and he's chasing a bounty, and we can all sort of play out exactly how its going to go in our heads before reading any of it. It's all very boilerplate. It'd be nice to have a story dedicated to showing all the dangling little thread finally pay off. It might breath new life into the setting; show new stories with new dynamics, or if nothing else provide closure on certain plots that are frankly long past due for a resolution.
>>153555091Ino had many happy years and died an old man, and his daughter survived. Pretty happy end compared to what many other characters got.
>>153554242>>153554250Cool sequence with the big ass numbers.
>>153554313>MikeSuch a weird way to adress Michelangelo
>>153555223a) Ito was old, probably died before marriage. But tiny-mustache suggested Panda-cub the marriage between Ito hatamoto and Tomoe for diplomatic reasons.2) Ito was killed during the marriage, so his hatamoto was promoted to something and he married Tomoe due to tiny-mustache machinations.3) Ito loves other things and this is the reason of the absence of Motozaku in this story.
